I have just repaired my ABS, Ducato, 2012. One of the wires of rear right sensor was broken. The place of fault was on a more or less stright section, ca. 40 cm from the plug. The wire was somehow crushed and probably broke from vibration. Having many backgrounds I decided to use 3M Scotchlok to restore continuity. It is fast, water-proof and reliable. Thank you for your video. I appreciate the time and effort you put to make the knowledge accessible for others.

It's gr8 how you make sure we can see everything by correctly positioning the camera. I was impressed by how far you go to diagnose the problem. The RR sensor was changed without even checking the wiring. The fault in the wiring looked as though it had been on for quite some time. The fuse box was another unknown and your approach of checking everything pays off. I thoroughly enjoyed watching your detective work.

Hello Luis, thanks for the video. Regarding the burned wire inside unit, it might be due to the programing in the factory. It is common with the eprom memory that after programin the chip higher current is applied to one of the legs of the IC which causes inside connection to burn, which prevents the content of the memory to be overwritten. It might be similiar sort of protection. I assume that these types of ABS are used on different types of vehicles, so I assume that the units are the same but software that they contain is different (ABS works with different parameters). Therefore after the units were programmed in factory I think that they burn the programming connection to the chip in orver to prevent either accidental overwritting or copying of the software.

I was just about to ask/wrote the same thing, I can remember when I studied electronics that you can get a FPGA which is a chip with multiple circuits on it and the useful circuit is kept and the others burned away(like miniature fuses burned)... I think it’s a cost saving thing so the same FOGA can be used in multiple circuits but just configured differently and no need for a custom chip.

I enjoyed your work so thanks again. With the fuse missing I suspect an unintended path was available between the control unit power feed to the solenoids (which are the only things drawing significant current) i.e. from the remaining processor power feed via the small wire that clearly was overloaded. In the case of Module B that wire looked burned but still worked so perhaps it wasn't abused for very long.

Grasping at straws .. had a break in sensor wiring to the rear wheel speed sensor , if one of those signal wires was either shorted to ground or managed to chafe itself in contact with a wire in the harness carrying 12 volts. The damaged ABS signal lines do they lead to that burnt wire input on the chip ? Someone trying to probe the rear ABS sensor loop with an old low impedance multimeter or 12 volt test light that was capable of flowing too much current into the circuit (less likely) , A Bad ground can also cause current to back flow back through components never designed to handle that much current , I have seen a bad engine to frame ground force high starting current to try find a grounding path back through the sensor circuits , this destroys the fine circuitry in the module it manages to try and find a return path through .
@LMAutoRepairs4 жыл бұрын
