Oh yeah. Before the Dream Team came along, the FIBA World Cup of 1986 had the best USA national basketball team ever. By far. It is amazing that they actually lost 1 game in the tournament when it would have been completely natural for them to go undefeated. The only match they lost? Against Argentina. In what most likely is the most epic foreshadowing of 2004 ever.

@@LuckyBird551 Nah not really. That 2004 US team wasn't that good. They didn't just lose to Argentina. They lost to Puerto Rico by 19, Italy by 15, and Lithuania by 8. That tells you something about that team. When you lose to Puerto Rico by 19 points....they didn't really bring their best players. That was more like a rookie all star team. Lebron, Melo, and Wade were all 19 year old rookies. The top scorers in the league were Kobe and Shaq and Garnett. They declined to play. Notice Argentina has not beaten them since then. They've played 7 more times since then and the US has killed them every time.

@@anthonyiacobucci3652 I think the problem of the 1998 and 2002-2006 US team were their issue of chemistry, coaching and egoistic problem between the player in the team and also lacked a heart and desire motivation to took the game seriously for the win. 2008 was where all star USA player took the game seriously to redeemed themselves again.

@@aaadj2744 I agree to a large extent. The 2002 team was definitely a B team though. Tons of guys sat that one out. 2006 they started getting serious with Coach K and lost that game to Greece but they spanked Argentina by 15. And I agree. After that it was time to massacre teams, which has not ended since then. Another problem in '04 was they only practiced for 3 weeks, even losing an exhibition game to Italy by like 20 points. Having said that, if you put Shaq, Kobe, Garnett, and McGrady on that team, they beat Argentina and win gold. Should have Ben Wallace on there too since he was in his prime..winning defensive player of the year. I mean Elton Brand? Stoudemire? Marbury? Good players but no comparison to the guys I listed.

Until after the US lost in 1988 & 90, it's open their eyes to eradicated the ridiculous amateur team and going to took the international competition seriously by sending their senior player since then. I believe he suffered an injury though during this 1986 WC hence he could not be seen during the celebration right after the buzzer. I always wondered what Sabonis's career would have been like in the NBA had he been able to play in it during his prime.

Well, it is just one game instead of a series. I wonder how intense the NBA finals would be if instead of the best of 7 games, it would be played at just one game on a neutral arena?

I can’t agree. Well obviously it being an elimination game adds to that. But game 6’s and game 7’s are insane. Go back and watch game 7 of the 2016 nba finals. Or game 6 of the 2013 finals
