So of the cartoons listed, 4 are directed by Avery, 2 by Jones, 6 by Freleng, 4 by the Hardaway/Dalton duo, 1 by Tashlin, 1 by McCabe, 1 by Davis and 16! by Clampett. I've read Clampett borrowed a lot from radio, vadueville and other films, often catchphrases, for a gag and this is a pretty good proof of that. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it's a crutch.

Since people seemed to like the first celebrity references video, I'm gonna continue this series. This time, instead of doing one celebrity, I'm doing references to a whole radio show, (the Johnson Wax program presents:) Fibber McGee and Molly (as well as it's spinoff "The Great Gildersleeve"). Unlike the Jerry Colonna video where I've never watched anything he's in, I'm slightly familiar with Fibber McGee and Molly, as I've watched a few of it's broadcasts. Of course, I'm still too lazy to tell you about it myself so here's another link to a source talking about the show: cartoonresearch.com/index.php/radio-round-up-the-johnson-wax-program-presents-fibber-mcgee-and-molly/ And go read the description for the timestamps.

It just goes to show how popular both radio shows were at the time the original shorts were released.

7:49- Bill Thompson, who voiced the "W.C. Fields" mouse in "Little Blabbermouse" and "Shop, Look and Listen", used that same voice as "Horatio K. Boomer" on "FIBBER McGEE AND MOLLY". He was also the "Old Timer" and "Wallace Wimple".

Cool. Have heard plenty of recordings of both shows, thanks to audio recordings I'd rent from my local library, and sites and channels that stream old radio shows.

I was basically watching this and keeping the Fibber McGee wiki page open so that I could figure out the references - I'd known all these bits had to be connected to *something*, but I'm pretty out of touch on my radio shows!

There's "Fool Coverage" where Daffy tries to get Porky hurt by stuffing his hall closet (just like how the cluttered closet in Fibber McGee and Molly is the hall closet) only for Daffy to open it himself and get buried in junk but it could just be a coincidence

I seem to recall there being some Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoon where a character - I want to say either Elmer or Porky, as they'd be the likely candidates - opening up a closet door only to have a bunch of stuff come falling out.

not a much of a complain but, why did you use an metv watermarked version of The Wise Quacking Duck when an hd version without logo has been surfaced around for over 12 years (because this was released on the platinum collection volume 2) you even use it on your previous videos. anyways, great video
