Finally, someone in the medical profession that get's it! My fibro has destroyed my quality of life and relationships along the way. Most days are filled with such hopelessness, I dread waking up in the morning. Living with chronic pain, very intense chronic pain, along with the memory fog and all the other symptoms that are part of FM, is not easy. There are many days when I wonder, why keep going? I pray there is help in the near future. I want my life back.

Amen! Not only do I suffer from all that, but I started having seizures in 2017. All the Neurologist wants to do is push more drugs on me. I’m scared to take anything anymore. It’s a no win situation and I’m getting 😓. God Bless you and I’ll keep praying for us all!

Dr. Wood's presentation is amazing. As a nurse, it was nice to hear the facts and correlation of symptoms to the anatomical and chemical malfunctions. I have been challenged by Fibromyalgia for 15 years, and have been told by co-workers, friends, and even medical professionals that Fibromyalgia is not real.This has caused me the loss of jobs and relationships along with additional unnecessary stress. Both of my sisters also struggle with profound daily pain and an array of other symptoms that we all seem to have in common. I fear that my daughters are destined to live through this when they are older. It gives me some hope that research is showing that even though the problem may derive from the brain, it is not "all in our heads!!"

+Kimberly Shannon I too am a nurse with fibromyalgia & have had the medical community turn its back on me. I have theorized for years that there was a connection between fibromyalgia & ADHD because all the supplements recommended that "help" are the same, together with the chemicals involved in the problem (serotonin, magnesium, etc). Just watched this and thought "Dopamine! wonder if there's a correlation there too"....lo! and behold! decreased dopamine production in ADHD....pages & pages of hits!

Respectfully: It's obviously not "all in the brain", but in the brain-body system as well as our environmental stressors. The brain "malfunction" is just a symptom. The cause is environmental, lifestyle, thought habits, generic, etc. The speaker saved his reputation by finally stating that every cause of fibromyalgia is different and that you don't treat a fever the same way for everyone similarly you don't treat fibromyalgia the same way for everyone.

@Kimberly Shannon, @TheMommacat711, @Aspergers versus Neurotypicals, MTHFR genetic mutation seems to be the cause of ALL the Above mentioned disorders. It stops or Slows the methylation chemical reactions which stop over 150 chemical reactions needed for health. I've been sick for 17 years with ALL this mess.Both my sisters also have it, and I lost a neice last year who couldn't take it any more. She was 29. Studied it all for 17 years and it's like a 3 demential puzzle where this piece won't go in until that piece is in the right place.... and my brain no longer works well enough to get it right. All most everyone I know who has, or has a child, with ADD, ADHD, Bipolar, schizophrenia, Autism, Aspergers, Neurotic defects, Fribro, CFS, Parkensons, have been found to have the mutated MTHFR gene. I found the most info from a youtube sight Beyond MTHFR, but there are now many youtube channels that talk about it. kzbin.info/door/lf8sIR9DiciZwCY89YdTeg I have Not found my "cure" so if any one has one, please pass it my way. @Edele Browne What dose are you taking, and how long have you been taking it ? I was on it for a few weeks, month plus and then increased the dose, 2.5 to start with then 5 . I think you can get bigger dose but I haven't yet , I take an extra dose sometimes on a bad day, like today . I think it does take a while to get going, but persevere, it is worth it . I also take a low dose of tramadol each day , and paracetamol on bad days . I think they work together. Then I take turmeric with black pepper and ginger often . I like heat to ease it , even today I put a heated wheat bottle in my back . There are electric hot water bottles, i use one in my back in the winter . Then I have a neck problem, cervical spondylitis, I have a cbd oil rub and I massage my neck with that a bit . Fibro can be caused by that , otherwise its something in the brain , or both ! K

Listening to these videos made me understand why the pain medicine I had been taking for years didn’t work and still doesn’t . Thank You the videos were very informative.

I've listened/watched all three parts of this presentation. Although it's a couple of years old, it's the most informative and confirming presentation I've seen. Haven't really pursued fibromyalgia info recently since I've had it for 24 yrs, and had stopped looking. I've thought for years that it is a neurological disorder. This presentation confirms that absolutely. I have the neck pain as well, developed before the fibro, which started with a terrible unknown viral illness.

As a retired nurse who has had worsening fibromyalgia for years , your research is very encouraging ! I actually had a doctor who would not see me because he does not believe in fibromyalgia pain. At the end of your excellent speech you mentioned that many of your fibro. patients had neck problems that required surgery and that after the surgery the fibromyalgia was gone. I just got the results of a cervical MRI and I have 3 cervical bulging discs and a bone spur on one( Perhaps surgery will work for me} . That would be wonderful ! I hope my doctor listens to your videos. Thanks for all of the excellent MRI photos and research info. . This has been a very valuable , factual , update of information on fibromyalgia for me and I believe many others !

I found this fascinating! So informative too. Lots of info in this made perfect sense. Just sad to see it was from so long ago, and we're still in the dark, and no further forward in getting help for this nightmare illness! So great to see a doc so passionate about finding a cause/treatment. I wish I could find a doc like that! I have both fibro and M.E. I'm thoroughly sick to the back teeth of docs not taking fibro and M.E seriously. Most docs have no idea of the level of pain we experience daily, nor are they interested, in many cases. Not all, but most. It seems to be the same issue worldwide. It needs to change or we'll never find a cure, and patients being mistreated/not believed needs to stop!

I had a very high pain tolerance up till I had an MVA. Massive Gforces involved after it 360'd, left the road up in the air spinning and then between rolling back'over'front impacting intermittently till it finally came to a stop. My head was pounded every which was, fractured two thoracic area's and scrunched up my neck. Head trauma, and also lower back compromised. Whiplashing in that sort of MVA is HUGE, massively huge... NO doctor took me seriously when I complained of massive pain... terrible time. I was given a full Battery test and it proved I had issue's. It has taken me 15 years to improve. However, I still to this day have massive issues with pain, fatigue, concentration, and I am so slow. My neck verterbrae and disc's in all but c1 is compressed compared to a CT done for sinus issues only a few months earlier.. My muscles struggled, they still do to a point. I have a bit more ROM now than I ever did however if I turn my neck more than a few times it can trigger massive pain for days. My chronic pain has got worse over the years, now it's taken my legs out. I have to use an elbow crutch now some days. Balance can be affected, bladder, swallowing, and pain and stiffness in the muscles and tendons really slows every movement when your on your feet. Sitting is better, but when standing the gravity feels like it's pulling every fibre through the floor/ground. There are other issues with not being able to control body heat, volcanic flares, and then the extreme coldness it's all so draining. Mental fatigue can hit like a bomb within seconds. There is a number of various issues folk suffer with when they have Fibromyalgia. I am so so appreciative of all and any science related testing like in this video, getting down to the true grit of the causes of Fibro, not the day dreamers who drum up nonsense idea's round Fibro cures and stupid remedies. Some of these suggestions make sufferers worse...tsk tsk.... God Bless any and all sufferers of Pain and fatigue.

So this is where I stop. I listened / watched the two previous videos and while I am thankful to learn that at least a couple of doctors in the world believe their patients who have chronic pain. I am a bit concerned about the focus on the brain and central nervous system. To start with = What about the fascia and the small excruciatingly painful knots which form? How is it they are linked to the brain? Why do they form? Why is it that some patients experience symptoms others do not? Why does the disease usually have an incident or accident or surgery BEFORE symptoms begin to show (on some patients)? etc

It’s an interesting question really. My personal theory as to why some people’s symptoms very so much other than the biological brain problems mentioned as well is like he said there is lots of things that’s being called fibromyalgia. It’s really just a catch all on a spectrum they diagnose you with when they run out of tests to give and depending on where you are on that spectrum they tell you you got Fibromyalgia or CFS
@lorrietaggart8882

I know exactly what you mean about those tiny, excruciatingly painful knots. It's my understanding that they are the result of a muscle, wrapped around the nerve that is sort of misfiring. The muscle itself is healthy.
@lindatannock
@lindatannock 5 жыл бұрын
@@lorrietaggart8882 I had myofacisl pain and knots for years before my fibro symptoms developed. Of course it's much worse now (and I think my fibro may be hereditary). The amount of knots is now out of control. If I press any around my shoulders/neck, they make an audible crunching noise! They never ease either. Same ones are permanently there. There are 4 fibro pain points just around the neck area alone though. Could they be exacerbating the issue with knots? I honestly don't know. They cause an immense amount of pain, and often headaches. Some, if pressed, cause pain elsewhere in the body, so must be pressing on nerves.

I was a WONDERFULLY healthy person. After six rear-end accidents I "contracted" fibromyalgia. Wow. I was blessed with an exceptional general practitioner who diagnosed me immediately after the sixth rear-end accident with fibromyalgia in 1998. He touched me VERY lightly (laughably so) on the back twice, asking "Does that hurt?". I was confused and responded with "No", like, really - are you joking? When he touched me the third time - same incredible LACK of pressure ... I SLAMMED into the door of his examination room (from sitting on the examination table), slid to the floor and COULD NOT wrap my head around the pain I had just experienced! He immediately sent me over to the hospital, which happened to have a set of EEG results from two years prior (from a slight head injury) and had them take a new EEG which revealed significant changes. I was told those changes were directly attributable to my having fibromyalgia. My neck was damaged at the C5 disc. I have lived with fibromyalgia since then, so 27 freaking years. Prior to this last car accident I had absolutely NO fibromyalgia symptoms. It took me two entire years to be able to sleep for up to three hours in a night. After 27 years, I can now sleep for up to 5 hours in a single night. I do not remember what it feels like to NOT have pain. My doctor and I spent the entire first year after my diagnosis trying to find a medication that was NOT addictive that would help with the sleeping and/or provide some pain relief. Specifically for the muscles that would spasm in my back causing excruciating pain for hours on end. After having a grand mal seizure (my body was tired of trying meds) we decided to stick with the Robaxisal C 1/2 along with a valium. The Robaxisal would stop the spasm and the valium would relax the muscle enough so it wouldn't spasm again right away. I HATE medications! I did not develop an addiction. I haven't had any meds in almost 5 years. I haven't had any major muscle spasms in 5 years. Last night .. I would have called an ambulance if I could have reached my phone. My doctor retired several years ago and now I have NO ONE that "believes" in fibromyalgia and the hospital is even worse and they view anyone requesting narcotics as a "drug addict". God help me.

Improve Yourself, Oh I have written to Dr. Bergman and he is in S. Cali and he is expensive! For a consult he is over $2000 US! This does not include any tests or ongoing appointments! If you have the $$ then all the power to you. Many Americans or Canadians and if you dont have money or emotional support to fight this ''cancerous'' long battle then many people might as well be buried 10 feet under or burned to ashes. I am happy you are doing a detox! I have been and still doing a detox and when it comes to the crawling I know all about this! I would sleep for 3 days without any food or meds in my system. Not even getting out of bed and being able to get out of bed due to severe chronic fatigue and black out. If I tried to take a shower I would fall on the couch and eat 3 bananas a day and that was it. Twisted neck, can't swallow barely, cant turn the neck, tingling all over the face, burning and buzzing inside the head, cognition lost, inability to help myself that leads to in and out of psych hospitals and misdiagnosed and psychosomatic from a neuropsychiatrist resident that leads to years of suffering in the medical system because he does not believe in Fibromyalgia!!! My issues are more than one issue with ripped connective all around my neck and upper thoracic so thick that ten years later I am still working on my thoracic outlet syndrome, neurological issues, spondylosterarthritis, gut issues and having to fight in isolation with no family. Many people spend tens and hundreds of thousand of thousand of dollars to fight for medical care. When someone like me and being being abused every aspect from paramedics, nurses, social workers, to neurologist and more there will be endless times where your brain is in the centre of the universe of suicide! Fibromyalgia is such an ambiguous word! For some it is severe but yet without any tissue problems. Ten years later I am still working on buzzing in my head, had heart palpitation that needed a holter monitor, chest that cracks, neck that cracks, body throughout my body that cracks, fainting spells, neck issues (after spending 12 hours am day working on my muscles in the middle of the night) due to agonizing suffering and mental breakdowns) and vomiting and diarrhea for days at a time on and off and running to emergency on my own, etc. I am sure many people could not tolerate this and still keep themselves alive with no support. What one can go through, another cannot. Not everyone has the same type and degree of pain, nor the same degree of suffering in the medical system. Not everyone has a complete recovery either. To each their own.

Jeannie Rush I am a person who might as well be 6 feet under at this point. I don't have family, no support system, and been homeless due to this shite (staying with a friend for the time being) & not being able to even hold a job due to it for the last going-on 3 years. I don't know how I'm still here, other than the sheer luck of small nice gestures from strangers and the few friends I've had during these times. It has really taught me the importance of the concept of Paaying it forward. If I can't get proper medical help, do something about this, or hold a job for my basic survival needs- soon- I dont know how long I can make it lmfao(..if not a laugh, then it's a cry, amiright). The thing is, what's worst for me is the self humiliation I feel, being in my predicament. I was going places. My work ethic is superb. I was a person that others, I think, could always count on. But no. Fibromyalgia (and my cptsd which brought it on) has got me by the neck.

People have to be fight the huge ocean tidal waves with multiple barriers or David and Goliath and climbing Mt. Everest if people don't have $$$, emotional/medical support. Having multiple medical issues at one time is not something one can handle alone and having these hindrances to deal with by one person to figure out on their own. One medical issue is enough, but more than one with misdiagnoses but ignorances of doctors and being dropped from doctor after doctor and no support? What can people do if they are sick and alone and fighting the battle with nobody to care for years and inability to no where to go next? it is fighting through a long hot drought of infested insects inside a corn maze! Fibomyalgia is an ambiguous term, and there have been people who function well enough to work for years and others who are vegetable that can't even comb their hair.

He hit the nail on the neck issue which I noticed years ago about FM. If people don't have neck issues from whiplash or for me trying chin ups that torqued my entire spine from C1 to sacrum which literally ripped my connective tissue and caused me bleeding inside my tissue and twisting of my tissue and nodules in my neck with scar tissue then maybe it is something else? I heard people have FM just come on but sometimes it is a hormone imbalance with thyroid? I now have TOS and try to get the scapula to stretch more and more everyday! It has been 10 years this month since my injury and I still faint and in horrible arthritis pain and built new pain and ligament and tissue damage. FM is now in the ICD-10 code book when many doctors over the years diagnosed me as ''psychsomatic'' and i was running through the emergency told I am a psych patient and today I still get told I am a psych patient with chronic pain. I may have had stroke since then. Living in isolation with nobody to fight and care for you day to day is living closer to being ashes and sand.

It’s really encouraging to see someone from the medical community truly making an effort to get to the bottom of this illness. Many people from the medical community forget that not too long ago we didn’t have diagnosis’s and treatments for what now is considered the most common identifiable infections, diseases, syndromes and so forth. That just because there isn’t an accepted/approved test(s) to diagnose Fibromyalgia just yet doesn’t mean it isn’t real and doesn’t mean the discovery of such a test isn’t right around the corner. It would be nice to at least see some acknowledgement and respect for this illness for once and for all. These medical skeptics are supposed to be scientists. Open to the unknown, know we have a lot of improving to do, and for fuck sake, stop acting like we have discovered everything that is needed to know by now. 😒

I watched all and am very impressed. You may just be a hero to many many people including me, who are going through life saying things like ‘oh you know me…I’m so dramatic, yeah I’m a bit of a sook, and yeah I probably have psychiatric issues … I’m a bit of a hypochondriac!’ That’s how many medical professionals, our GPS and ‘normal’ people make us feel. I fight every day to stay here. I want my husband to watch this lecture, but he’d be bored after 3 minutes. (Just saying too that he is very supportive and kind and keeps me me grounded and here. He’s a very good man) I have good times and bad times and horrible times. I have a collapsed spine and severe neck problems shown on an MRI after several accidents and one very bad fall. My spine is a bit of a mess. Pretty sure that’s part of it but that happened after I was diagnosed with Epstein Barr after contracting glandular fever. I won’t go on because like many it all comes down to pain and brain flake and did I mention pain. But mate you are looking and you are finding out stuff that will one day make a difference. Thank you sir for your work and may the force be with you!❤

You’ve changed my life. I’ve been living a life of hell with fibromyalgia and iron overload. Anaemia but excessive iron. But I’m on folic acid. Stoggy red blood cells. My father died of leukimia.But I have gut issues. So I’m on a specialised diet . Drinks prescribed to me. I’m a hiker and hillwalker but can’t manage now. I was diagnosed with atrophy from a brain scan a few months ago. MRI. They were looking for epilepsy. No intracranial abnormalities. But what they did find was atrophy. I feel like I’m not going insane listening to this video. It flagged up as I googled atrophy. Now I understand my fibromyalgia. I’ve always pushed myself but the worse it’s goy

I have Fibromyalgia and I've had a Cervical spine injury through an accident I never had any problems till then , I had surgery to replace a disc and decompression, I started Fibromyalgia I would say a year after this . So I'm perplexed as to what's going on with me . Fibro fog and pain is so bad it's getting harder each day to cope . I feel convinced this is why I'm suffering now. I'm so happy that your doing research into this decease , thankyou so much and I wish you were my Dr .

Patrick Wood WHOA! at the start of the third part! I was just thinking about the neck because I was thinking... that is some idea were rolling around after the bulk of the first two videos --- I was thinking about how when I go to my sports rehab chiropractor guy, I look at the posters of the bones and muscles, and it's SO COMPLICATED, and when I had terrible foot issues years ago it turned out the problem was in my back and in the fact my core was shitty and core excersizes fixed that problem and I can walk as far as I want now... and then last year I was having pain in my arms that was interfering with life and it sucked and I went back to this guy and he says "let me make sure it's not your neck" and I go "Oh, it's not my neck" and hey, by golly it WAS my neck. And this guy, he likes philosophy and we talk about stuff and I go Man! Life! geeze, it's so complicated! and so just now after listening to the first two parts of this video, I was thinking of that complicated life stuff and like wow... that was just the muscles and bones! and you're doing CHEMICAL... and brain! and oh man.... like another dimension, another order of magnitude of complicated... LIFE, man! wow woah... (And some of those pictures reminded me of pictures I saw when I went to a two day seminar conducted by two universities with Philosophy and Brain doctor departments together, on SPACIAL COGNITION [or something... about how people process information about space: size, direction, volume, etc]) how our brains and minds work with getting around in 3d and 4d space... SO, I'm in the other room as the second video finishes, these things in my head, and I hear the beginning of the third part, and you start on talking about the NECK!

Outstanding. Every FM patient has sacral spinal cyst Tarlov.cyst disease. They leak cerebral spinal fluid . This can torque the legs and the whole spine the arms. Maybe every adhd patient has the cyst also. The NIH is on to this possibly. The war in the cervical is key also. Menegele diverticuli are all over some well off the spine. The sacral cyst is command and control but the play in the cervical thoracic is not to be underestimated. Dorsal root ganglion nerve blocks maintain order.

About 20+ years ago I banged the top of my head downwards and the pain was immense. Then about 10 years ago I fell and landed on my hands and knees. Since then I have had neck pain, dizziness and feelings of nausea. I had my neck X-rayed and nothing was found. When it's bad I feel ill. I also present other symptoms of fibromyalgia. But because I have depression, diabetes, menopausal and borderline under active thyroid he won't diagnose me. I'm in the UK.

My fibromyalgia started when I was a caregiver for my mom who was dying of cancer and I was juggling work in between. Lots of stress. I started with pain in right hip difficult to walk and then you couldn't touch me anywhere as I felt pain. It just progressed. Over the course of years I found natural/holistic treatments worked far better then pharma without all the side effects of pharma meds. I also found diet played a huge roll going to a whole foods plant based diet made a huge difference. I now can figure doing certain things such as repetion will aggrevate my fibro such as sweeping, vaccuming, reaching up and down for objects, using my arms to clean and dust. I have pretty much learned to live with it and control it the best I can with massage, chiropractic and acupuncture treatments. Exercise I do walking which is best for me. I am 76 now. I have had fibro since 1999.

All very interesting but there is no mention of the link to emotional pain. I remember as a child if I feel over for instance the physical pain triggered a deep emotional pain...it became about something else. When this first developed I heard in m mind...|"m in pain because I'm in pain...meaning I'm in physical pain because I'm in emotional pain.

I had been told that people having upper body injuries were more likely to develop fm. My neck was broken in a car accident in 1980. Soft tissue damage corkscrewed my spine costing me 3 inches in height. The only thing done for me was traction. In 2001, I was punched in the shoulder at work which lead to double imbingement and further neck damage. The diagnosis of fm came shortly after but it took 10 years before I got the shoulder surgeries, the corrective titanium in my neck as well as the titanium rods in my spine. Drugs have given me no relief from fm pain. I fail to believe that Vicodin is addictive for I'm prescribed 10/325 QID...may as well be M&Ms. Useless as are the rest.

Wonderful how you have already joined up so many dots Sir! Every time I watch more information on fma I realise that it mostly applied to me. Have you thought about sending out questionnaires to people already with this diagnosis? You could end up with a very large sample size! Firstly, I was born with this condition I feel. I can think of no other explanation for laying in bed at night, in cold, wet, damp England in the 1960s. Single glazed draughty windows. The pain was excruciating. Night after sleepless night from about age 6 or 7. Later on I was treated for iron deficiency. I had serious neck problems from A. A fall down the stairs landing on my coccyx. B. Neck strain from working asxa peripatetic surgical chiropodist. The patients foot on a cushion on my lap. My head bent over 8 hours a day. Ouch! Loads of other relevant stuff the usual suspects. IBS, carpal tunnel syndrome, serious brain fog to the point where I couldn't sign my name and slept 23/24 hours a day. I could go on with this list. These 3 videos made perfect sense to me, especially the last episode. My sister incidentally has BPD and schizophrenia. Thank you for choosing this area of research. The fact is if progress is made in treatment you will be helping 1000 s of folk because of the prevalence of this bike disease.

My recent research on brain plasticity made me begin to think i had ADHD. I am thus ,most interested in the connection he draws between the two. Additionally cervical compression has been a problem for me. The hard knots of myofascial pain form into hyper-neural signals and create a network of hyperactive signals. It seems a bit chicken and egg to me - is the brain causing the tightness and the intensification of pain or do the knots become hyperactive and the brain's neural networks become overloaded. There is not one solution that fits all. Undoubtedly for me quality nutrition, no alcohol, and supportive nutritional supplementation (MAGNESIUM in the correct form ) together with increased exercise, adequate rest and amitryptiline help me. I have had fibro for 26 years and only recently really understood my inadequate nutrition in terms of choline, and protein and good fats.

Implausible Neurologists and neurosurgeons regularly see patients with spondylotic myelopathy. Patients present with varying signs and symptoms that can include: ●Pain in the neck, subscapular region, or shoulder, often radiating into the arms. ●Numbness or paresthesias in the arms. The sensory loss may follow a dermatomal pattern (figure 1), and often underlies complaints of loss of fine motor control in the hands. ●Gait disturbance, usually characterized by a spastic, scissoring quality. ●Sensory deficits, usually related to dorsal column function (reduced joint position and vibratory sense) and loss of pain sensation, can be elicited in the lower extremities and may contribute to the gait impairment. ●Weakness in the lower extremities with upper motor neuron characteristics: increased reflexes, increased tone, and present Babinski signs. ●Lower motor neuron findings (weakness, atrophy, and suppressed reflexes) in a myotomal distribution in the arms or hands. The C5-7 myotomes are most often affected. ●Bladder dysfunction, urgency, frequency, and/or retention. ●Lhermitte sign. An electric shock-like sensation in the neck, radiating down the spine or into the arms, produced by forward flexion of the neck. NOT FMS
