Fiddler Cuckoo Clock non stop cuckooing

I bought this Fiddler cuckoo clock online at a GW action site. I now have two of them. No, sorry, but they are not for sale. This clock has been worked on before by someone else, so I guess the owner gave up on the clock when the cuckoo kept cuckooing. I didn't know why, but was willing to try this clock out. After a few hours, I did learn and discover what would cause the clock to keep cuckooing. Thanks for stopping in to see how I fixed this clock back to working order and looks good also.

Now that I am retired, I just might show my life and some of the towns around me. I enjoy working on Cuckoo Clocks and clocks in general, How to repair vacuums, fans and things form the thrift stores, besides the thrift store finds, and working on houses. Time Lapse, Bird & Sky watching along with gardening. Helping my Dad with things he loved to do, along with taking dad and his wife to breakfast.
My Brother and Dad, live on the same Dead End Road and yea, maybe we just might get into trouble a little, but have fun doing it. It is time to start smelling the Roses on the way instead of looking at them and passing them by.

Thanks so much for your videos. When I was a child while visiting my grandma’s house I was greatly fascinated by her cuckoo clock. I would stop whatever I was doing to go and watch the cuckoo bird and the music and little dancers that come out. Recently I learned that my grandfather made the cuckoo clock. He was from Germany and was an artisan in wood carving. I got a few at a tag sale that are in rough shape (bellows paper destroyed) so I needed to do it without a pattern. I completed one set yesterday and look forward to cleaning it and setting it up.

FYI. This clock has what is called a count wheel vs a Rack N Snail. IAW the NAWCC for the most part all German manufactures quit using the count wheel in the 1950s. So that helps you in dating this clock.

I use to try to date the clocks, but haven't in a long while and now you can't find much on line anymore. The only think I can really go on now is the size of the nut that holds the hands on that you can't find anymore.

This is an extraordinary clock. Never seen one like it. But I love it. The maiden looks almost like Geena Davis from the 1980's. This clock sort of reminds me of an old cuckoo clock by the Schmeckenbecher company called The Farmers Daughter. Great work on a great clock Mike!

Hi JustMike! Great videos. I got a cuckoo clock cheap at a thrift shop that was in bad shape. Using your videos I got it cleaned and working- replacing torn bellows and all. The problem I have is the bird will not come out of the door at all. Can you go over the bird movement in detail? I feel like I am either missing a part or the action is out of alignment. I have a simple Black Forest clock with standard 1 day. The spring seems weak maybe? The arm that the bird sits on has two small rods that move past the parts of the clock that might be intended to hit them to move the rod, but I’m not certain. I can’t find a good solid picture or video that shows what this specific component is supposed to look like or how it operates. Thank you! This has been very helpful and beneficial for me!

I was lucky enough to have bought these cuckoo clocks when the were going cheaper than what you have to pay for them now. Goodwill has an online sight that you can bid on them like Ebay, and also thrift stores will get them in. You never know when they will come in. God Bless

No I don't, but it is easy enough. The dial in normally held on with three or four nails. If you ordered the right size dial, just make sure the numbers are square and use the same nails if you can.

Some of the clock shops leave their card with a date or write it on the clock for a time stamp to let them or others know when the last time the cuckoo clock was cleaned. Thank you on the painting on the clock, it will due, lol, and yes the lady was scary to see and maybe should have been repainted also, but didn't want to take away all the old charm in this clock. I have learned a lot watching you I have a clock I Inherited from my father I thought the chains had come off but when I opened the back the chains were on they turn either way is it something easy to fix or hopeless

There are two kinds of winders for the cuckoo clocks. One has a lever that has a spring wire on it, and the other is a disk with cuts in it and bent to act like a ratchet. You might be able to oil the side with the Disk and get it working again, but normally you have to change them out. The leaver one, look to see if the wire spring is still attached and oil the lever, where it has a rivet in it to see if you can free it up. Hope this helps you Karen.

Hello Mike. I'm enjoying these cuckoo videos. I've been fascinated with them for 50 years and have been picking them up as I can. I like this fiddler animated clock. Saw the one you mentioned on that auction site. Too rich for my blood. And the movement was newer - it didn't have the vertical vanes on the governor. I'm attempting my own repairs with the hopes of being able to restore a quail/cuckoo. We may be in touch again. Where are you located?

I will admit, if you have been buying cuckoo clocks and have a cheaper one, to practice on that one to help understand what that clock is doing.
