CLIP DESCRIPTION:
The players invite Terence (James Earl Jones) to follow them into the corn; Ray (Kevin Costner) feels slighted.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
"If you build it, he will come." That's the ethereal message that inspires Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) to construct a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield. At first, "he" seems to be the ghost of disgraced ballplayer Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta), who materializes on the ballfield and plays a few games with the awestruck Ray. But as the weeks go by, Ray receives several other messages from a disembodied voice, one of which is "Ease his pain." He realizes that his ballfield has been divinely ordained to give a second chance to people who have sacrificed certain valuable aspects of their lives. One of these folks is Salingeresque writer Terence Mann (James Earl Jones), whom Ray kidnaps and takes to a ball game and then to his farm. Another is Doc Graham (Burt Lancaster), a beloved general practitioner who gave up a burgeoning baseball career in favor of medicine. The final "second-chancer" turns out to be much closer to Ray. That "magical" field in Dyersville, Iowa still draws thousands of baseball-happy tourists each year.

"Is that why you did this? For you? I think you better stay here, Ray..." In the last few years, I've thought of this line often, here from one of my favorite films, but it has an eery resonance now. RIP, Ray Liotta.

And the look on Ray's face... There is a line from "batteries not included" that applies here...the fastest way to get a miracle to end is to ask it why it's here or what it wants. Ray realizes that he may have crossed the line and it could all vanish in a heartbeat.

@MANCHESTER UNITED F.C Yeah but soccer sucks. Soccer is really popular mostly in countries without tv or electricity, get it? If you had nothing to do all day you'd watch someone kick a ball around a field for an hour. Who cares. Watch soccer all you want, I'll be watching first world sports like baseball, football and MMA. I used to watch this movie with my father when I was young and never appreciated it til I was older. This I movie is beautiful and I will share it with my own son. Work hard and achieve it without worrying about what others think! The best advice!

I like it when Liotta as Jackson says, " I think you better stay here, Ray. " He knows that Ray is going to meet the man who he built the ball diamond for in reality.

I want to say two things: 1) I have found an all new love for this movie and its symbolism I've not felt for 20 years as I hadn't seen it for that long and 2) I am reminded of "Stargate" when Jackson first goes to the Stargate's watery light/gateway to teleportation with his hands immersing in the energy smiling and enjoying it like he's ten years old. Such wonder, it reminds me of Terrance's laughing and sticking his hand into the corn laughing.

Field of Dreams was made in 1989. It hasn't aged at all. Still a great movie. RIP Ray Liotta. I hope he got to meet Shoeless Joe in the cornfield.

My Grandad was a pitcher who had one game in the majors. He couldn’t stay away from his family and gave up his dream. I always think of him when I see this movie.

46. Wife and 2 kids. Why do I star whimpering . Every darn time. Just the musical chords do it to me. Thank you to all involved - something very special in my life and my heart and blood. - it's inside me. Yes, I love things before. Never perfect - but no lockdown drills or fights over the wrong fast food order.
