Awesome video, I got my first gun which happens to be a Glock 19 in December and the first time I was cleaning it I found this video. Helped me out a ton I still watch it every time I clean and will continue to do so until I feel comfortable enough to clean it without feeling I need to watch it. Thanks!

Same here. I wanted this to be my first for so many years. I'm 24 almost 25. Can't own a handgun until you're 21. So I wanted this to be my first. However, it goes quick everywhere I look. Finally got the call from a buddy that it was available and just picked this bad boy up a few days ago. I couldn't be more excited...

About the best way imo to clean and lube the slide rails is to wrap a patch, paper towel or cloth around an old credit card and run it down the rails/under the rail tabs. After cleaning, you can put oil on the edge of the wrapped card and run it down the rails.

TBH doesn't matter. Ive got 400 rounds on my new glock and havent really cleaned it yet. People go thousands of rounds before cleaning one. Is that good? eh. Does the gun still run? yeah.. clean it whenever you feel like it.
@geologick
@geologick 3 жыл бұрын
@@johnallenthomas5470 I think the main thing is what you use it for. If you just use it for target shooting, then yeah probably not a big deal to go a while between cleanings. But if it's your main home defense weapon, it should be cleaned after every use because you don't want any chance of failure when you need it the most.

You mentioned the copper colored stuff is a glock long term lubricant... Is there any risk involved with cleaning that out before ever firing your glock? I didn't know what it was, and cleaned some of it out. There is still some in there but not nearly as much. Should it be replaced with something specific in this case, or is it not a big deal if I just replace it with some of my own oil?
@SkullCrushInc

It’s not a big deal. Just keep the rail channels lubed and it will be fine. The factory copper colored lube eventually comes out anyway with regular cleaning.

I just bought my first gun and handgun ever its a Glock 19 Gen 5 and I bought it because I heard way too often how reliable they are. But I have a question. My friend told me to change the striker and the guide rod to steel. Should I do this to my glock? I've heard that you get a little less recoil due to Tungsten being a heavy metal. I've done some research and found out that Tungsten is also a really great substitute rather than the plastic guide rod. Should I be worried about the plastic Guide Rod? Would it be a wise choice to change it if you are able to?

I just picked up a new gen 5 and had the same issue, the armorer at the gun shop told me/showed me that this is normal, the gen 5 routine for removing the slide is a little different than previous models (I also have a gen 3). Refer to the manual for details as it requires very little movement to find the sweet spot where the slide comes off, slides back on. I am sure there is a video somewhere on youtube that demonstrates this. Enjoy your new firearm.
