FIELD TARGET TECH EPISODE 20 HEAVY WEIGHT PELLET TESTING @ 12 FT.LB

In this episode, I give a quick finding of shooting JSB Monsters, Redesigned Monsters, Beasts, and Rabbit Magnums in a 12 ft.lb rig. I still have more testing to do with a few other heavyweight projectiles, and when my custom swaging dies arrive within the next few day/week, I'll walk you through the process of swaging a pellet. I have 1/2 ogive, and 3/4 ogive nose dies coming, with a hollow base tail, and the capability of a solid, or hollowpoint nose as well. The hollowpoint capability will allow me to adjust the balance of the pellet for different weights.

I used H&N Barracuda Match for over a decade for FT at sub 12 in .177 . They were great in the wind and once decent rangefinding scopes came out they were even better. Also when you got a split pellet on the kill more often than not it would go down due to retained energy. I changed to JSB exact when they came out more due to fashion. I probably should have stuck with the Barracuda

1:12 and 1:16 barrels should do well with slugs at a faster velocity. Upwards of 900 fps.

Soda can shooter, yes they probably will, but I'm trying to achieve success with a slug that shoots at or below 12 ft lb for Field Target. By upping the velocity, shooting a slug that fast in my class would not be allowed.

@@sniperxbow60 if I was you. I would try some of the cp Griffin slugs in .177 and if any of there slugs did well you you sub 12 fp air rifles I would say buy a cp DIY. The cp slugs are longer for the weight. But they have hollow points and hollow bases. I think they will do will with low power and high power airguns.

Soda can shooter, I've tried Nielson, as well as the Griffins, and the fit in almost all of my barrels is much too tight. Almost to the point that I couldn't even chamber them in some guns. The Griffins actually got stuck in one barrel, and took a lot of coaxing to get out. The slugs that I am using are matched with the barrels I generally shoot them out of. I shot and recovered pellets from several guns, and the die maker told me what size I needed after he measured the lands and grooves in his high power microscope.

Gennaro, I filmed the Pistol first. I spent the rest of the day sighting it in, and ran out of time to film and show groups. I was trying to get a lot of stuff done in preperation for a major match I was going to. Due to the world's issues at the moment, I have been not able to get to my home range and show groups. When all of this blows over, I will show groups at Field Target distances. Patience......
