The edge of mine was burnt hard, it performed bad and it also chipped after carving a spoon. I free hand sharpened it by myself to get rid of that burnt edge, now it works decent and performs how it should. Sadly the factory edges often suck from Bark River.

That’s a shame I have not encountered that issue. Im glad it performed after re sharpening.

That kind of steel isn't for hard use. You'll break the blade sooner or later, if you keep hiting it with a branch

Thank you for your comment! I’d be interested in why you think it’s not for hard use? This was the exact reason the steel was developed. Stainless properties with hardness of a high carbon steel. Is it because dbk broke one? If so the steel was x rayed by crucible and found a void in the mold.

@@easternadventures4254 Because any kind of Super stainless steel, built with power metallurgy tehcnology and at that hardness, is going to be the least tough steel, no matter how good the marketing to push it to the market is. It's not my opinion, it's just facts. All superstainless steels with 60-61 and higher hrc, not just that one. When it comes to steels and knife blade,s it's always a trade off. You can't have super hard and super tough and super stainless all in one. There are balanced steels, like CPM154 from the stainless family or 52100 from the non stainless family, that are a compromise and in my opinion, these make some of the most user friendly steels, but you'll never have it all. If you want that kind of high edge retention and a leve of toughness that will also provide great edge stability, then one of the best choices is the Vanadis 4 Extra. That steel, would be way more proper, especially for a "Scandi edge" which is very prone to chiping/rolling (lowest edge stability, than any other grind, thus you need a steel, with the best edge stability and in the same time, it has to hold it's edge, beause Scandi, also provides the least edge retention, compared to any other kind of grind)

@@greekveteran2715 I agree with you on the theory of metallurgy and stainless composition over non stainless etc. I don’t abuse my blades and don’t even baton that much. This is the only “stainless” blade I own that I use on wood. It’s the second magnacut blade now I have. The chromium is much lower than other stainless and is balanced with the carbon to supposedly give a good balance of everything. So far that is what I’ve seen out of it. Far less edge rolling than any of my stainless blades. Cpm 154, elmax, s35, s45. Not one edge roll from that seasoned maple. I don’t intend on beating it. I don’t abuse my blades. I rarely even baton. I am a steel nerd and if nothing else am interested for my own research.

@@easternadventures4254 I just meant, that it's the opposite example, of 1095 steel. Which means, (marketing aside) that it's toughness is lower than it actually is. Add the marketing, and the fact, that most people, are not Chemists/Metallurgists, to understand what you tried to desrcribe, and you have the comclusion that I'm trying to explain. Knives, is the reason that my very first degree, was on Chemistry/Metallurgy. Do you agree, that marketing of a product, is how to advertise it, to make us believe, that the product is better than it is or better than others, to make us buy it? If yes, then leave that "marketing trends aside, and you'll understand easier, what I'm trying to say! (I don't know everything, I could be wrong, in the same time, I speak about facts, not just opinions)

@@greekveteran2715 I agree my friend. I’m going off of composition, not marketing. I’m intrigued. It won’t replace my a2 and 3v, but may become my new favorite edc steel.
