The Botanist Patrick Blanc, inventor of the Vertical Garden (Mur Végétal) takes you to a Field Trip in the cloud forests of Ecuador, on the Pacific side of the Andes at 1000 m altitude, this area being the southernmost part of the Choco ecoregion, one of the world's biodiversity hotspots.
We thank Mark Hughes, Marc Jeanson, Guido Mathieu, David Scherberich and Michael Sundue for some plant species identifications, Nestor Paladines from Mashpi Lodge and Régis Nicolas from Traveler in the World.

I give some corrections or additions to the plant names, thanks to Charlotte Taylor and Thomas Couvreur : at 15.23, this is Faramea grandifolia, at 21.45 this is Isertia pittieri, at 25.45 this would be Palicourea flexuosa, at 33.44 this is Hoffmannia longipetiolata, at 35.20 this is Geonoma lanata and finally at 54.20 this is Grias theobromicarpa.

Thanks Mateo and happy you like the video by Pascal. And we thank also Nestor in the text because he was a wonderful guide, always taking photos of the tiny mosses and liverworts. Mashpi is also a great place for Piper species and I suspect that many of them are new.

Thank you for sharing this video. This is a wondrous, beautiful forest, and it makes me so happy that places like this still exist in our increasingly crowded and polluted world. There's almost no chance I would be able to visit this forest, a virtual tour will have to do. :)

Oh my ..I wish I had had the courage as a young person to admit that all I wanted to do was to go out into places such as this one and study the plants and creatures. The years are running so fast, what a shame.

You can read the name at 4.46 : Peperomia cf. fragrantissima. According to Guido Mathieu this one is probably a new species close to P. fragrantissima.

Bonjour, there are already Field trips in Palawan ! You can have a look at this one, in french language, where you'll see "my" begonia blancii that I discovered with Pascal in February 2009 and named in 2011. We came back with our friend Noemie and you'll see also in this film the het unnamed Begonia elnidoensis as well as the rare Begonia woodii : kzbin.info/www/bejne/f56QeneOndOeadU And also this video in English with Mark Hughes and Rosario Rubite who named Begonia blancii. Of course, Palawan is a wonderful island for plant diversity !
