C. H. I believe the mod he's using changes the WRE to the WRE separatists converting WRE proper to Britannia.

Yep it's something to do with the mod, the author wanted roman britain to be red so gave original rome the separatist colour scheme.

it's part of the roman britain mod. you are the WRE (as roman britain) so the WRE is just the WRE seperatists

Are there any mods that make the AI better? It feels a bit disappointing to see these massive armies being repelled so easily.

It's not just the AI; most of these naval invasions incur sea sickness for big stat penalties for the landsmen coming in on transports. Onagers and Cavalry excepted; they get to land in advance.

Toratchi888 Maybe there is a campaign AI mod that makes the AI land its troops first. Because it seems CA didn't make that part of the AI's decision making.

The way it works is the AI will do a naval assault if it has an advantage on the balance bar (or roughly equal) because it's slightly faster than landing, which sometimes takes an extra turn. Problem is the balance bar doesn't factor in sea sickness, which is a HUGE penalty to all of their stats, making things actually way easier than they look. I think this behaviour is programmed so fundamentally that mods can't really get around it.

Devin, i think you need to stop using the defensive testudo when not under heavy missile fire. It seems your troops take more damage in melee because only the first line are fighting whilst the rest are holding formation.

In my vague experience with it, it makes you do less damage and take less damage since fewer attacks are delivered by both sides, so it just prolongs the fight. I usually only have it on because I switch it on to deter cav and missiles and then forget to turn it off later :D

It's the name of the tier 1 Roman Barracks in Rome II : Total War.

The 'Field of Mars' was the location outside of Rome where armies camped, since they weren't allowed into the city by law. So it's a reference to and old Roman tradition like that, and some kind of vague reference to the fact Britain is 95% fields :D

I understand the point, but in this campaign if you lose any settlements it's basically over - trust me, I tried the campaign 3 times before this run, and all those times it was over really fast. With the way the economy works in the game you need every starting settlement to avoid starvation, rebellion, or bankruptcy. So yeah, trying as hard to possible to win settlement defences. Also I think it would be lame to let the AI win deliberately.

You say that, but I see a huge difference between how Devin plays and Legend of Total War for example. Legend's style really is all about winning, which is fine but not my thing. Devin does sometimes use exploits when he doesn't need to, but if its necessary to avoid losing the whole NLP I'm all for it.
