To be fair, the old Renault Espace was still an old body on chassis structure. The chassis was actually acquired by Renault when they bought out Simca. The chassis was from the early 1970s. Actually, the same chassis originally used on the old Matra Simca Rancho was used on the Renault Espace up to 2003. It may have been a very modern chassis at the time, but 30 years is a long time.

in 2019, the mismatched crash happened to me. i was in my beloved mk2 vw jetta coupe and was sideswiped in the driver door by a ford edge SUV, almost 3 decades newer and more than 2x the weight of mine. it hit directly in my door. intrusion into the cabin was about 18 inches, but i survived. the impact was at 40mph. i had a fracture on my pelvis and scapula and had glass driven into my arm, as it was on the sill of the door, and the window was pushed into my arm by the bumper of the SUV. but, it held up incredibly well considering the discrepancy. 30 years difference, it was a 3 star in 1987, half the weight, and at a fairly good speed impact.

Next, you can show the biggest cause of death in car crashes: Unconscious people sitting in their seat belts suffocate when their chin is against their chest. Wearing a helmet would also save. This was said by the doctor who investigated the accidents.

In 1970 our graduating class was shown actual film of fatal car accidents showing dead and dying victims of horrific car accidents. They used actors playing the lead ups to the accidents and then we were shown the actual resulting carnage. Dead people with their bodies mangled top of their heads gone brains dripping onto the road. The worst were the dying screaming in agony and begging for help with their bodies encased in twisted metal. It was awful we were kids in our teens some fainted one kid passed out and peed his pants others vomited on the floor. The fools thought we wood drive carefully after witnessing that horror. I'm 70 and still see those horrific scenes in my mind.

I think you're misunderstanding things. New cars often (that is, the high safety rated ones) have an extremely strong cabin. Also remember that all of the tests here are old (15-20 years); a _lot_ more have happened since. And yes, modern cars seems to crush up like a tin can. That's by design, but not nefariously so. See, when the car crumbles up, it absorbs the energy of the impact, slowing the deceleration down so that you don't get squished inside. In new/modern cars it is often the case that it _looks_ far worse than it actually is.

My reaction to the crashes in Fifth Gear: Head-on Crash: Drive responsibly, and don't overspeed like a donkey dummy. New Car In To Old: When your wallet's fat like a pig, buy the best wheels ever. If you are tight in the budget, continue on driving with the risks. Not all people are lucky to have new wheels anyway. Bollard Crash: I say one thing - the bollard says: "I will end your career, you terrorists". Smart Car: Driving any car onto a concrete barrier at high speed makes you more dumber than dead. Sideswipe: RIP Shogun. Civic, you SUCK. 120mph Crash: Surprisingly horrific. Do it in real life, and you're the dumbest of the driving dead.

13:35 you can go buy and drive whatever vehicle teat Safest at the time. But you will have to continue to purchase over and over. Somebody is always going to be bigger and stronger than you, not unless you decided that you want to drive a Brinks truck, but with the technology from a Tesla. If you do not prefer the smooth and slick design that the truck will give you. Or you might want something that rides a little smoother, and might be a little easier to get into and get out of. You also might want something easier to park at different places. If you are downtown on Main. A Brinks Truck is not going to be easy to park. So that might be a issue with you. If so, don’t fret. I have the safest piece of technology for you. It might cost you anywhere from free, up to countless amounts of money and time. Understand, that multiple people that are in your family, and people that you care about and love. You will need to have these invest as much of their time as possible, and as much finances between you and or them, as needed, and as as it come up. This priceless technology that could take the rest of your life and of the others that care about. You are asking, WHAT IS IT. I’m going skip down and not reading all this. The technology is you and the other people that you love and care about. That is the technology. You may wonder what could cost so much and take so much time. That is driving training. Not at the local community college, or where it is held. Nope not at your high schoolers, schools. You will need to have the love of driving, first. If you don’t, then you will not learn as much because you don’t have it in your heart. Then you will look up different racing schools, and different types of racing schools. Each type of racing, has its own dangers and handling characteristics. You must learn how to feel what you are driving, and have a understanding of what the capabilities of the vehicle you are driving. You have escape routes. So if you feel like you are not going to be able to stop, or you look back and see the driver behind you looking like they might not. Then you know which way, and how far you have to escape from the possible wreck. An newer vehicle that has a good safety rating, will assist in case a vehicle is still missed. Cars drive fast and cover ground quickly. Go and be safe out there.

for the last test, a single car into a wall at 120mph would simulate a head on crash between 2 cars each traveling at 60mph. youd think they could get this right... after all this is a show about cars... (but its no top gear :P)
@Dead_Metal
@Dead_Metal 7 ай бұрын
Not quite, the show is right about the figures, because the wall effectively rebounds the total force the Ford focus impacts it with. So let's say the focus gives out 3000N of force (not an actual figure) when hitting the wall, then the wall gives back 3000N to conserve total energy. Wheras if it were 2 cars hitting at 60mph and causing dead standstill, the force each would apply is 1500N to each other. Although the forces of 2 slower cars add up to 1 fast car, their impacts are not interchangeable.
