Okay so to give context for this, this scene apparently is the same as the book. The screen writer came up the idea that Christian was supposed to continue after Anna said the safe word for him to stop. Myers flipped the fuck out and refused for it to happen so they changed that one little detail but kept all the rest. I think it gives a lot of context for the scene tbh
@jubilantsleep4 жыл бұрын
Quinlan Marchese That actually makes more sense. Thx
@roselover4113 жыл бұрын
@@jubilantsleep I mean a responsible dominant would NEVER agree to do 'the worst' to a new sub either. Because that shit will traumatize someone new to the scene. You have to progress in stages and you HAVE to be able to trust your dom, which at this point in the relationship Ana doesn't know him well enough to do so. Christian Grey is not a trustworthy dom. He doesn't understand the concept of aftercare and just *ditches* Ana as soon as they're done with the sex part that he likes without taking care of his sub afterward. You can't just be like 'I just totally destroyed you in multiple ways, now i'm gonna leave immediately, bye' after something so intense. You have to bring them out of it slowly and with care. If you hurt them that way and then don't take the time to bring them back to equilibrium it can wreck them. So of course after he goes all out hitting her, and then does nothing to try to bring her out of sub space and back into the real world, cuddling with her and making sure she drinks a lot of water or tea or whatever to keep her hydrated and healthy, so she knows she's cared for and safe, of COURSE she's going to run!

Funny story time: my mom came up to me a couple years ago telling me about how she just watched this horror/thriller that she thought was terrifying. She knew how much I like a good thriller, so she wanted me to watch it, then we could see the sequels together and see how she defeats her abuser (who my mom speculated was secretly a serial killer with a Bluebeard thing going on) Naturally, I was intrigued and asked her to tell me the premise of this wonderful movie I somehow missed. A couple sentences in I realized she watched 50 Shades of Gray. I let her tell me her synopsis of the movie, then had to gently explain that what she watched was supposed to be an erotic romance. She refused to believe me until I pulled it up on Google. Somehow she missed the hype when it came out or she thought it was something different, but damn was she floored. On an unrelated note: I think the problem you described with Cristian being intimidating would have been solved if they'd cast Henry Calvil. He's big, he can be gruff, and, as the modern DC movies show, he doesn't mind being cast in shit movies as long as they are big enough.

I heard the actor was in a different movie/show and he was intimidating there. So I think the problem is with the writing itself. I'm watching this after your "365 days" video and I've realised that most of the movies that portray this kind of relationship, which is supposed to appear kinky and whatever but in reality is toxic, always use certain tools to make the abusive male character seem a "good guy". For example, the thing with "I'm not going to touch you until you give me explicit consent" which appears in both movies, or, in the case of "365 days", the whole "killing a pedophile" thing. Is that supposed to be cute and romantic? I'm sure there's more examples of this but these are the ones that came to my mind. Btw, I really love the way you expose toxic behaviors and red flags that are usually so normalised. Love your videos! I discovered you today but I'm already subscribed.

Although it's true that these books were probably written for older women, unfortunately, older women are just as capable of being brainwashed by toxic trash like this as anyone else. Believe me, I've seen women try to defend this nonsense as being romantic and misunderstood. Romanticizing abuse is never ok, no matter who the intended audience may be. That being said, the movies (and books) are pretty hilariously awful. I love watching people review and commentate on them, it's always entertaining. I hope she covers the sequels sometime.

The author basically admit her book is basically Twilight bdsm fanfiction
@cookitwithlemon72665 жыл бұрын
She 100% did, it’s pulled from fanfic.net, it was called Master of the Universe. It’s not even legal to profit from fanfic and she literally only changed names to publish it and while some elements are changed to make it ‘erotic’ and switch up the scenery, you can tell beat for beat which scene is meant to be which scene. For example, Bella leaving a bookstore, followed by men - Anastasia leaving a club, unable to dissuade man’s advances, Edward/Christian races to the scene. I’ve never read it or watched the movie but from reviews like this one as I watch it, I know exactly what scene it’s ripping off. Can’t believe it’s not sueable, 50 shades made more frickin money. Fanfic is honouring a beloved art form and practising, authors should see it as a compliment that those learning want to play in their world. This....is ABSOLUTE theft. Thanks for providing the subheading to rant under.
@adrin55565 жыл бұрын
Cookitwith Lemon wasn’t she the fanfic author though??
@jaimiepayano8625 жыл бұрын
@@cookitwithlemon7266 It actually was sueable. One of the few great things Stephenie Mayer did was choose to not sue. She was upset about the blatant ripoff and the themes being so far from her Mormon beliefs, but she knew that if she sued and won, it would legally destroy the entire fan fiction community. Lines would be blured and honest fan fiction writers would be sued into silence.
@Minmin-jy1gq5 жыл бұрын
@@jaimiepayano862 Fanfics aren't legal unless they're done with the express consent of the copyright holder - usually the author. Totally understand about her being upset at such a blatant rip on her rights.
@powerpuff4ever5 жыл бұрын
vs Fanfiction actually is legally protected because it falls under fair use so you don’t actually need copyright holder permission so create it. You’re using character names and are attempting to replicate personalities but creating new content that doesn’t resemble the source material. Even fanfiction that falls between cannon or is set in the cannon universe can be protected as long as the scenes and situations are unique content. What makes fanfiction like Master of the Universe/Fifty Shades of Grey illegal is plagiarism. E. L. James lifted entire scenes, verbatim, from the Twilight books, so much so that 89% of the book is identical content. She very literally just changed names, switched out a couple of words, and added maybe 5 of her own scenes (all of which would be the sex scenes). Unfortunately, there are a lot of fan fictions like this but most of them are younger writers who just want to make something and the majority wouldn’t pursue publishing with that content. The fair use act is slightly vague though so a lawsuit would essentially mean fanfiction websites couldn’t function anymore without a review process which is stifling and could be discouraging to young writers. Stephanie Mayer would be justified in suing and she’s definitely justified in her anger but not all fanfiction deserves the penalization so she really spared the community

the saddest thing about this movie is that the female screenwriter and director (who were replaced by men in Darker and Freed) tried so hard to make this into a good movie, but the novel is SO BAD that any attempts to make something half decent were hopeless. really didn't help that E.L. James was on set screaming every time the writer/director made a change she didn't like (basically any change that made it less sexist, rapey, racist etc. because how dare you insinuate that her Twilight lemon isn't a perfect work of literature and that her rich self insert isn't that great of a guy)
