The way movies slide past men’s sexual assault is so upsetting bc it not only puts in women’s mind that it’s not that serious and men just need pussy to heal from it but it puts in men’s mind that it’s not something that will be taken seriously and perpetuates the stigma around men getting help and speaking about their situations. The casual sexual assaults in movies and the lack of healing from it is so damaging for all of us and I don’t think many ppl see that

Okay so Christian getting into a submissive pose when Anna threatens to leave is a big problem to me. They are framing it as "oh it's romantic, he loves her so much that he is willing to submit to her and acknowledge her power as a woman", but to me it instead suggests that he feels like he is being punished and it's causing him to panic, so subconsciously he is reverting to behaviors that may have appeased his abuser in the past.

All jokes aside it's incredibly infuriating that movies and society continue to push this narrative of women being able to fix men's trauma with sex. Also, that trauma is something that can be sexualized, like we do not equate to therapy, and it is disgusting to sexualize trauma. Like it is not women's job to fix a broken man. It's not anyone's job to FIX anyone, why don't we perpetuate therapy. It's extremely exhausting as a woman in society to constantly having to battle people with this ideal in their head.

I agree. Everytime I watch a movie like this, I'm just screaming, "Therapy! He needs THERAPY." I'm so sick of the "only she can fix him" trope. Trauma is not an aphrodisiac and it's not something that can be fixed by another person. It's YOUR responsibility to work on it. I'm just tired of seeing this trope that only exists to further push that they ARE "in love"and he does "LOVE" her and this is how we know.
@elleofhearts84712 жыл бұрын
its such a boring trope too. having women be everything to everybody is such a dead horse that is never entertaining or pleasant. Esspecially when its being everything to men. "you're my everything" gets taken literally way too often in fiction and it bleeds into real life. Theres a theory as to why men tend to die soon after their wife dies (in old age). the theory goes that when the wife dies, much of his emotional connections outside of himself goes with her. Old men have such limited intimate relationships at the end of life with others than old women do, that the disruption of his intimate connection causes his quality of life/health to decline. I wouldn't be surprised if women die before men because their life-force can no longer sustain the strain of being everything to their male partners for decades.

Ok, I can't believe I'm about to write this, but you know where I found a relationship like that? In RIVERDALE, between Betty and Jughead.💀 Crazy, huh? But just focusing on those two, they have pretty healthy dynamics. They both have a lot of issues with their families, they come from different economic backgrounds, Betty struggles with mental health... so their lives are far from perfect, but they always support each other. From the end of season 1 onwards, almost all the drama comes from outside and they fight it together. There is no codependency in their relationship, they both can accomplish things on their own and are not afraid to call each other out if they disagree, but they also know that they can always rely on each other. Their relationship doesn't make them "whole" - because they already are their own person - but it does make them stronger.

Looking at people fawning over the scene when Christian bows down to Anna and lets her touch him is befuddling because like, Are we really not gonna talk about what that means with respect to his past relationships? Christian had gone back to treating Anna the way he found well and comfortable disregarding her promise simply because he had been not expecting consequences for it the way Ana always had not given him, and when he sees her about to leave and done with his sh*t he panics quickly and is emotionally trying to manipulate her into staying the only way he knew how, the way it worked with Elena Lincoln,( the woman he was molested by) , by bowing down into a submissive position and surrendering himself the way a submissive would, no doubt the way he had to as a child in front of Lincoln. I had to pause the movie and close my eyes for a while five minutes after the scene realizing how fucked up it was.
@AspiringCrybaby20183 жыл бұрын
That part made me have to stop the video for a minute. Even if it wasn’t manipulative, it really feels like he’s like, having some sort of PTSD flashback.
