it's just not that simple. It's not about random abuse but the story depicts domination. Also psychosexual trauma, and other things that are naturally very interesting to many women. Real world abuse in relationships isn't at all sexy. 50shades manages to explore some of the very real psychological stuff in a way that's exciting and aesthetic.

June Asiimwe There are losers that think Joker and Harley Quinn is hashtag relationship goals, just because they saw Suicide Squad, I mean his abusive treatment of her was and remains a huge part of the pair’s relationship both before and after she left him, to reinforce my point there is literally the entirety of the episode Mad Love from the New Batman Adventures, and the 1994 one-shot it’s based on.

@@TeonDeus you bring up a good point. I think if the movie had been framed as the story of a deeply disturbed man who uses abuse and domination disguised at "BDSM" to work through his childhood trauma, and if the movie had addressed this and approached it as a psychological thriller, then it could have been interesting. But unfortunately it's presented as a "romance" and the fact that Christian is not following healthy BDSM practices is not addressed at all.

When I was younger I dated someone who was into BDSM. I enjoyed it in the bedroom but I drew the line at living normal life being dominated which we discussed at length as we got more into the scene and as he wanted more we decided mutually to break up because I couldn’t give him what he wanted. He was incredibly respectful of all of my wishes and their were clear boundaries and safe words and as we were still learning we did have some difficult moments but there was never a moment that I felt unsafe or completely out of control. This movie just tries to justify abuse by saying its BDSM but it’s not, it’s just another movie where an asshole takes advantage of a vulnerable/naive girl

veronica carlson You say be careful but if a man can over power you regardless any relationship can be risky. At any point they could decide to over power you but that is nothing to do with BDSM that’s just called being abusive. The whole point of BDSM is that it’s safe, sane and consensual. The whole point of my comment is that BDSM is all about trust and it can be fun when everyone in the relationship respects one another and follows the rules and guidelines. Telling me to be careful of choices if the guy turned out to be abusive is just victim blaming

@veronica carlson Not kinky sex also can send people to hospital. Not everyone is flexible and fit enough to avoid accidents. Before any exercise it's normal to have a warm up - when it comes to sex it never happens. Muscle tearing, bone fractures, joint sprains - it all happens without bandage needed. STDs are a serious danger even when the most vanilla sex is involved. Some people like to do fun in shower - a very dangerous activity even though it's a very vanilla
@tygerlizzie
@tygerlizzie 4 жыл бұрын
@veronica carlson I understand where you're coming from but I don't like that you're trying to find parallels between what essentially are sexual kinks and sexual abuse. Obviously you are in no way obligated to understand what turns other people on, but I think there's a very important difference between the two: consent (like the original comment mentioned). Yes accidents are an unfortunate possibility but, as stated by others, that's part of sexual activity in general, not specific to BDSM. Oftentimes BDSM scenes are even safer bc everyone is hyper aware of safety and everyone performs extensive research to prevent injuries, more so than many vanilla couples do. Perhaps it's true that it's foolish to trust someone to that extent, but that's a risk that comes with relationships in general, trusting that another person values you enough that they would go the extra mile to keep you safe and not hurt you. Just like you would trust a friend to care enough not to accidentally hurt you emotionally, it's the same principle, even if it doesn't seem similar. It's just that almost everyone becomes knowledgeable about friendship early on in life, and the BDSM community is a specific percentage of the population.

I'm not into BDSM and even I know that the author doesn't know how BDSM works. In a BDSM relationship, the submissive is the one with more power. the Dom also tells the sub what theyre willing and not willing to do, and is free to use safewords to end a scene whenever they dont want to continue/cant handle it as well. it's not exclusive to subs. in other words, neither actually holds more power over the other. control, maybe. but only in sense of "the sub gives over control to the Dom". but definitely not power.

"There is nothing healthy about this man." The best quote to come out of this. Also sums up the character of Christian Grey perfectly. I never actually watched the whole movie, happened to catch a little bit of it on TV, had to change the channel after 5 minutes. Probably because the german dub is just so laughably bad. It's even more cringe than the original one (you happened to show the clip I watched so yeah... I can compare them) Lastly, I have been in a kinda similar relationship. Not as extreme as Anastasia had there, but still, I consider it abuse. Not gonna go into too much detail, the guy tried to groom me too, when I just didn't do what ever he wanted, when ever he wanted, he dumped me, although he has been trying to get back into contact with me several times throughout the years. It took me three years before I was able to trust someone again and talk about my problems, he basically destroyed me. But it's hard to admit that to yourself when you are in that kind of relationship. You just don't want to see what is actually happening. You keep making up excuses. "Oh, he didn't mean it that way. He was just joking. It's a misunderstanding. He meant well. How was he supposed to know?" That stuff. I now am more happy than ever without that prick. So much love to anyone who has been suffering from abuse in the past! And if you are currently in an abusive relationship, please get the hell out of it. It's not worth it. Get help from friends or family, someone you can trust and I'm sure you will recover one day.

Speaking from someone who has experience in BDSM, I will say this. In a true BDSM relationship, the submissive is actually the one with the more power. They are the ones who decide the limits of where it goes. Something that this fanfic writer does not get. So instead Mr. Grey is nothing more than a rapist. Yeah, middle aged women are getting off to a rapist. How disturbing is that? As for me, I didn't even make through the first movie until I decided I'm done with this franchise. However, watching people tear it apart, I'm good with. So if you want to do the other two, hey, be my guest, Amanda. I'll enjoy watching your videos on it.

What kills me about this movie and this whole series in general is the wasted potential, especially with Christian's character. Christian is an abuse victim (from early on in his life) who was introduced to the books' really fucked up interpretation of BDSM by a woman who took advantage of his naivety. And keep in mind, he was a teenager when that happened! This alone has the makings of a great story and how his relationship with Ana could develop. Maybe at one point he says or does something that really makes Ana angry and he gives her a crop or a whip for her to hit him with to appease her, or maybe Ana says something that triggers his PTSD in a way that causes him to project the hatred buried deep within him for the woman who abused him onto Ana. Over time, however, Ana helps him fight his trauma and shows him how relationships actually work and what normal intimate contact with a romantic partner are really like. Not to mention it would be a great commentary on the way male abuse victims struggle with their trauma, how they are not taken seriously and how little support and understanding they receive.

He isn't abused by his mother. His memories of her are of her making him a birthday cake and other loving things. Yes, her pimp burned him with a couple cigarettes, but that doesn't make him some long-term abuse-victim. He was poor, yes, as are so, so many children. He seems to think that being poor meant he was a victim. At the age of 4, he was adopted into a home of extreme wealth and privilege, yet he's pissed that his mother was a prostitute. Nothing he said gave any reason to believe she was even really a druggie. She was a prostitute who had a pimp who did burn him, yet he acts like his whole life was one long abuse saga.

Funny story: My mom and I were in a book store, she asked me if I’d heard of the book 50 Shades of Grey, and if I thought she’d like it. I told her yes, I’d heard of it, and no, she wouldn’t like it. I tried to end the conversation, but she kept asking, “why? why? I’m an open person,” etc. Finally out of frustration and embarrassment, I yelled, “IT’S PORN, MOM! I think After is worse just because the girl character is younger. So it's not the same audience. Teenagers will watch and read after and normalize this abusive awful behavior when it's middle age women doing that with 50 shades. They can compartmentalize and see 50 shades as just a fantasy where it's okay to do that shit but know that if it happens in real life it really wouldn't be hot just fucking creepy. Not sure teenagers do and can do that. Also I remember the girl in after being a pretty bad judgmental person when Ana is just a bit lost and manipulated but does try to stand her ground at multiple occasion. I'd rather have people relate to Ana than whatever the After girl's name is in After. (like doesn't she cheat on her boyfriend and absolutely don't give any fucks about it ?!)

The other character was a teacher that was teaching a college class about literature and because the author never got their degree officially so they went to school for it. Turns out the teacher was a huge fan and teaches the author's poetry to the class. I'm not doing it justice but it's mainly about the teacher helping the author get through his insecurities about being an older person going to college and convincing him that you don't need to go through trauma to be a good author. He stopped writing and reading because he got really successful and other past traumas made him really scared of disappointing others and he didn't want to release something subpar. Over time they build a relationship though they don't get together until the author leaves the class. I'm probably really not doing this fic justice but it was really nice.

“Between the Dog and the Wolf,” easily. Les Miserables fanfic (based off the novel) where Javert survives and continues solving mysteries, and has to work together with a very surprised Valjean and it’s awkward. Incredibly well-researched, true to the characters, and written in the style in the novel that it could very well fit in as an official spinoff IMO.

I once read a Super Mario Bros. fanfiction called "Eternally Never Yours" and.. OMG, I didn't expect a story that good. And to make things more unexpected, the main pairing was gay. Actually, my favorite one is mine because I feel proud of what I'm writing, but it's in Spanish because I'm Mexican.

There was this one Harry Potter fic I LOVED back in the day, I think it was written like 2005? I read it(and the sequel) like 3 times i think. Dunno if it still holds up now that I'm older and have more reading experience but I remember it being _HILARIOUS,_ and also that the summary was kinda bad, I know I passed over it several times in peoples faves before actually checking it out. It's called Make a Wish and the author is Rorschach's Blot, it's on fanfic dot net. (I should re-read it again actually... See if it's still good, I think my last read was in like 2012 or something lol) For more recent fics, I think my current fave is Keeping Secrets by Elvensemi on ao3. It's a super slow burn Dragon Age Inquisition fic, with an OC main character who's super mysterious.

Something that stands out (well as glaringly as everything is - this still is bad too) - Christian was seeing a therapist. In the books he was regularly visiting with a psychologist or counselor I can't remember (I really don't care to dive deep into investigating) but I do remember from when I was actually reading the books that he saw someone regularly and even went to a session with Ana. Which quite honestly seems worse and more horrifying that he was receiving psychological help and he was still ... himself.

Only issue with this video: Fan fiction is a form of literature, I don't get why people shit on it. Just because there are poorly written fics out there doesn't mean that fan fiction in itself isn't 'real' literature and that it can't ever be well written or incredible on its own.

The whole older/younger dynamic has EVERYTHING to do with vulnerability. At 20 I got into a regretful relationship with someone almost in their 50s and it was EVERYTHING to do with money and comfort held above me (I was in an abuse household and chose the latter as I thought it less abusive (it wasn't)) then later got into a relationship with someone just under 20 years older than me (he looked younger in my defense lol) and we've been basically a match made in heaven. Difference is in one relationship I felt guilty, horrible, and like a pice of crap, and it was my only way out. In the other it was my choice and it's something that never made me feel less than in any way, whereas the other relationship did. Age gape relationships always tread a fine line of advantage and normal and I feel a lot of people in everyday life neglect to agree with that.

I remember reading this book with 12 and by this time I didn't have any experience with a well working relationship or with man's who respected women's. So I thought that this is what a great relationship looked like. Now I am 16 and I just know that this isn't the right way to start a relationship. A relationship involves the freedom of both partners to do just things with each other especially at sex, what booth partners feel Okey with. A man should never be the boss of you in any part of your life. You are a free person who can do what she wants to do and what you need to do. A great relationship is one were you see eye to eye with each other and talk about decisions before they are made. This books gave such a defekt look of a healthy and good relationship especially when it comes to your feelings about things with the topic sex.

the difference between fifty shades and real world BDSM is: in the scene where you said he spanks her for rolling her eyes at the insane _manipulative_ gesture of buying her a new car, in an actual BDSM relationship it would have been an agreed-upon situational punishment or however the pair define it, that not only would the sub negotiate & agree to being punished (in this case spanked, etc) but more specifically they would agree to what specific situations in which they would approve of this happening. In other words, in the real BDSM world, Ana would have KNOWN that the reaction of rolling her eyes and having a less than grateful/excited reaponse would have been grounds for her to get punished, rather than having it sprung on her and having to take it because she agreed to it, when in reality they didn’t exactly agree to _that._ And it would have came down right with her LOVING or GAINING SOME TYPE OF PLEASURE FROM IT RATHER THAN MISERY (you should SEE the book’s version, it’s actually sad) BECAUSE BDSM IN THE REAL WORLD IS CENTERED SOLELY ON CONSENT NEGOTIATION AND PLEASURE. I know not everyone gets or can level with these notions, but with platform does come responsibility, and it’s a shame that the own author and even filmmakers didn’t strike some more noticeable boundary for the majority audience who had no idea where the line is drawn. Okay rant over love your videos would love reviews on the others cause bad movie n book reviews are hilarious when intelligent people do them byeee!!!!!!

THIS THANK YOU! The movie is a TERRIBLE representation of BDSM. I for the life of me would NEVER participate with someone with a troubling psychotic past into BDSM culture. I think the reason why this movie has gotten so much hype is because the barrier between ideal sexual relationships and kinky relationships was breaking at the time. I think a lot of women that were interested in this series had absolutely zero or minimal experience with BDSM, and seem to rather fetishize the thought of it because it was generally a "New thing" at the time. But regardless it sparked a toxic mentality of the culture and for that, it made it harder for people to maturely and safely experience BDSM.

I actually was a little surprised to hear this was Twilight Fan Fiction, since Anne Rice (under a pen name A. N. Roquelaure) - the author of Interview with a Vampire -- wrote a books series about BDSM and the fairytale Sleeping Beauty. I thought this was just a modernization of those stories when I first heard about them. Funny that 50 Shades is still a vampire knock off, even though I didn't realize which one.
