In the video “The King’s Indian Defense” by GM Roman Dzindzichashvili, we see different variations of the King’s Indian Defense opening, where White does not play e4 or g3. This means that in these variations he will be playing Bf4 or Bg5 combined with the move e3. This move reinforces White’s d4 pawn a bit more and steers the game into a bit different type of position because Black’s counterattacks in the center are not as strong anymore. Black needs to know what to do against this set-up or he may find himself lost without a plan because of the differences he is not used to.
After seeing the basic set-up, we are shown some things that Black can try. This includes his attempt at chasing down White’s dark square bishop and also pawn pushes in the center of the board. These pawn pushes open lines for his pieces, specifically his dark square bishop, which is Black’s strongest piece.
How can Black fight against White’s center despite White’s reinforcement? What can Black do to activate his pieces in these variations? Watch the video to find out!

You are the best chess teacher. The analysis is clear and exhaustive about variations that are frequently played. Very useful to me as I am a king's indian player. ( a medium level player -1600 rating- just for fun without any ambition to become a master). Appreciated the idea of c6 and Qa5 and the advice to respond with a6 to a4 when the whitr pawn is in c3. On the other hand, when the white play c4 instead of c3 do you seggest to respond with a6 as well ? Generally in this case I play a5, because after a6 and b5 the white can play cxb5 and open the file. (My strategy is to block the queen side while attacking on the king side).

There's an error at 4:30. No need to play Bh5, white can take a pawn with 6.Bxe7! and if black play Kxe7 he lose the queen for Nd5+

Starting with the knight allows white to pin with a bishop. There is no reason to play the knight first, it can easily come into position at any time, allowing black more strategic freedom with which to respond to white during early development.

I'm sorry, but there's a problem, you said white could play the light bishop to d3 but never showed what are black's best options if that happens!

Jakub T So now Black can play Nh5 and after Bg5 h6 Bh4 g5 Ne2 doesn't work anymore because the h5 Knight is protected by the Black Queen.
