In 1950, in HS, they studied government and logic, the higher mathematics, ancient and medieval history, french, latin, music, and organic chemistry. A broader and more demanding course of study than prevails at most undergrad universities. Those who couldn't hack it went to trade school, then went to work. When i was in 3rd grade you had to know all your math facts, and all the state capitals. You also had to master cursive penmanship. Now, after 70 years of "pedagogical progress" we have THIS as an education system. Can you IMAGINE what our education system will look like 70 years from now? If we're still around, in 2094??

I graduated from high school back in 2022 on June 11th, and we didn't even get our diplomas that night. Just some empty diploma case and all of us had to return to the school to get the "diploma" from some office and it's not even a diploma, it was just a piece of paper that reads "Lamar graduate".

This isn't just a recent thing though either. I graduated in 2001 and there was at least one kid who had the reading level of, what I'd estimate to be, a 5 year old. He was pushed right through because he played sports. He wasn't the only one but the others, maybe, were on the level of a 10 year old in reading comprehension.

My child is in 1st grade and the poor education that is pushed is shameful. When she gets out of class I then have to sit with her for another 6-7 hours just to teach what the teachers mention but do not teach. I work from home so I can keep a close eye that other parents can not! When reporting to the super they have excuses. One child finished the year not knowing how to add plus 1. The teacher blamed parenting but Htf does a child sit in ur class for months and not know how to add plus 1?? It’s very sad. Public school does not teach.
