Fight Club 2018 - The Ultimate Sport Hatchback

In this year's Fight Club, our annual group test in Serres Racing Circuit, we pitted the new Honda Civic Type R against its competitors, in search of the quickest around track but also for the most fun-to-drive.

P.S. Some cars that would perfectly fit in this test were either unavailable at the time (BMW M140i, VW Golf R) or not yet launched at all (Hyundai i30N, Renault Megane RS). Thus, we have a good reason to visit the track again, in the following months...

yes but you have a lot of more then only power in the rs3. you also have a lot of more driving assistance systems and more prestige on the street. Also the Sound is much better

Awesome comparison! Great video-shots, editing, content, narrative (thanks for the subtitles). The presenter is a very good driver as well, I know this track well as I have done a few trackdays on it, and times in the low 1:30s for the power/weight of those cars are exceptional. Laptimes standings are expected. The Focus RS looks absolutely insane :-) and most fun to drive, the civic apparently is the best track car. I just hate front wheel drive "hot hatches" for their lack of traction (and wheelhop) in the lower gears. If I had to choose, I would take the RS3 for the looks, traction, great straightline performance, supercar tunability potential (800 awhp) and the AMAZING 5 cylinder engine!

Δεν είχα ξαναδεί βίντεό σου. Είσαι από τους λίγους ,δεν ξερω κάποιον άλλο αλλά δεν λέω ο μόνος για να μην είμαι υπερβολικός , που έχω ακούσει τέτοια αναλυτική περιγραφή της συμπεριφοράς αυτοκινήτου . FlyinGato The only place the RS3 could possibly be faster is in the straights with all its power. I'd bet money that a Hondata Tuned FK8 would be at least a half second faster than the RS3.

It's literally the only thing it's good at. RS3 was not designed with lap times in mind but it somehow smashes everything in it's segment and is just barely slower than M2 on track while also being an amazing daily driver

Also it's worth noting what tires these hatches are running with. Type R and Focus RS both have more track oriented tires than the rest

quba560 the FK8 is a better all around hot hatch than the RS3. It does everything brilliantly. It's even fast from a dig in the right hands. The continental tires that come stock are middling at best. If the FK8 had Cup2s or Trofeo Rs, or even the Michelin super sports that the Focus has, it would've blown the RS3 off the track.

Better all arounder than RS3? That's hillarious, name one thing it's better at apart from getting better gas mileage. Exterior/interior/quality/design - not a chance, comfort - no way, straight line speed - pretty obvious, prestige - Audi vs Honda, all-weather capabilities - AWD vs FWD, reliability - google Honda's transmission problem, track performance - not even that although close. It's a good car for the money, I'll give it that but I find it funny that Honda fans will defend this car even if it's obviously being outclassed here - AND RIGHTFULLY SO, I mean it's almost half the price. Fast from a dig? Let's not get carried away as it's 2018 and fast is 5 seconds or less.

Fantastic review..... Having driven all of them (and owning one of them) I do agree with your rating of CTR and FRS. The rest is good as well but either only really sporty in a straight line (Audi) or too daily driver geared (VW) with Seat and the AMG in between... the Peugeot is clearly no. 3 for the sake of driving fun, cornering and braking. If you’d look for a straight line top performer and don’t care about handling and fun too much then it’s the Audi and AMG, no doubt as esp. the 5 cylinder Audi engine is mighty. So it depends clearly on what you are looking for.... ✅

The RS3 and A45 should not be in this group. They are AWD cars and cost almost double as the rest. Perhaps re-run this test including the i30N, Megane and M140i.

So many people get caught up in comparing stats, specs etc. yet tend to overlook the overall driving experience and feel of the car, which Honda has always nailed. The Focus RS would be a blast to drive as well it appears, and those would be my top 2 choices as well. But as a long time Honda fan and owner of several great Honda hatchbacks, I'd have to go with the Type R. Lighter, better feedback from the wheel and car, and a more exciting engine IMO. Though that AWD looks fun AF. Still, headgaskets have not been nice to the Focus RS. And Honda is notorious for reliability. With it's cheaper price tag, lower weight and potential reliability and resale value, it's CTR for me all day.
