I'd like to nonchalantly say I did the same, because obviously I have better things to do than play old SEGA games for 3 1/2 days straight, but that would unfortunately be a lie. It's not even the only time I've logged the 84 hours necessary as, due to the Saturn's memory being dependant on an internal CR2032 battery, my save data has been lost to cyberspace more than once.

For better or worse, you aren't. The character is called Mr. Meat; he is unlocked by booting Fighters Megamix 30 times. To select him go to arcade mode, highlight Kumachan and press X, then select Course I. The AM2 Palm Tree logo I fight in the first round is unlocked by accumulating 84 hours of game play. Then you do the same thing you would to pick Mr. Meat except you press Z instead of X.

The version I'm playing is the European copy. I can therefore only confirm that it works on that version but I see no reason why it would be different on the Japanese or North American copies.

AM2, subset of Sega who designed all the Sega fighting games (from Virtual Fighter to Sonic The Fighters), could only use characters for Fighters Megamix that they had the rights to. Hence Bean and Bark, as they were the only characters in Sonic The Fighters that were Sega AM2 owned.

This game badly needs to be remastered/remade. If this had enhanced graphics (at least on par with the arcade versions of Fighting Vipers) it would be amazing. They should also fix the music loop (which is not supposed to restart after every round) glitch. Rentahero's theme was the only track unaffected by this.

Fighters Megamix has only ever been released for Sega Saturn (1996) and the ill-fated Game.com (1998). Virtua fighter 2 is available on XBL though.
