Honestly i would love to see you break down the martial arts in the fighting manga Holyland. Its about a kid fighting on the street and meeting and fighting all kinds of people practicioning different martial arts. The author has some fighting experience himself and always adds his own little notes about the fighting techniques. A lot more realistic than most other fictional stories about martial arts.

@johnnyquiddd7281
@johnnyquiddd7281 Жыл бұрын
Me too. I never expected to enjoy HolyLand so much, it's much more realistic than other fighting manga. Every fight is grounded in reality. For example they show just how frightening Judo and other grappling techniques are when done on concrete, how even a simple double leg takedown can affect someone if their back hits the concrete. It has this quality about it... Almost like an "instructional fighting manga ". Sometimes the author directly gives us, the readers, tips on how to handle different scenarios to improve our survival "in the streets" in self defense situations. I would love to see your opinion on some of the self defense scenarios and tips presented in HolyLand. If anyone can do this I am sure it's you, Rokas Sensei 🤝🥋 Love your Baki videos, I'm glad someone finally decided to break down Baki with this approach, it's something that's never been done before, fresh, inspiring and fun to watch. PS: Also wanted to Thank You for the fact that you inspired me to take my own martial arts journey to the next level. You always seek new ways to improve, push forward and overcome your limits... You are a big inspiration for all of us martial artists walking on the Path ! OSS!🥋🫡

It's the one thing that I love about this series even when it goes full-tilt insane. The vast majority of the nonsense portrayed has some basis on martial arts theory or hypothetical martial arts being allowed to work at the highest possible level or just a few steps beyond.

Baki, Kengan Ashura/Omega, and History’s Strongest Discipline Kenichi are some of my favorites. They have in common that they explain real martial arts theory. Of the three, Kengan is probably most valuable when it comes to explanations and variety, but Kenichi is better at integrating the tools one can pick up from all the martial arts. Kenichi is the “MMA” manga I have read at that rate.

6:20 the “unliftable body” technique has real fighting application. I was once in a fight with an older guy, he was on the chubby lumberjack side. I wanted to box but he tried to take me to the ground but because of my stance he couldn’t move me, that gave me the opportunity to use his weight against him and get him on his back.

It's funny you mentioned shadow boxing (I'll try and keep this brief, no undies) cause it reminds me of this Capoeira training session I was in, and I met an Angolero by the name of "águia" for his uncanny ability to never keep his eye off his opponents no matter what is being done in a roda. But when I was seeing him train on his own, it was night (we train outside) with only the lights of the location keeping everything on, and he was playing music while staring at the shadow reflected on the concrete floor and walls. Dude was literally fighting/sparring against his shadow like Peter Pan. Literal Shadow Boxing aside, I wanna see you do a break down on Kenichi The mightiest Disciple

There is an older anime called Kenichi The Mightiest Disciple (2006). While it has a degree of fanservice and MC´s masters are basically Ki using superhumans off the bat, I believe it somehow portrays how Martial Arts could work when the person using them would have practical combat focused training. Shonen power up time skip aside, I like it more than Baki actually. The big good of the series is who I believe Yujiro would be in his sixtiex+ if he would wisen from his a** demeanor. They even got compared by fans on one point. The fun part is, even in manga (which has gone for about 600+ issues) when the series end, the MC is not even close to beating any of his masters (while it is strongly implied in final page he became one).

One important factor regarding flow state is the task at hand must be at the optimal difficulty. This means the task can't be too difficult, nor can it be too easy. It has to be just challenging enough. Humans actually can regularly enter the flow state, for example when driving, playing video games, or a musical instrument.

The mystical feeling of becoming one with waves,mountains etc. is a motive that often comes up when you're reading about path to enlightment in spiritual books, and entering it on your own is something you strive towards when meditating. It's a debatable "proof" that no matter what path you take in life it can lead to enlightment if you do stuff you love with honesty, dedication and passion while being in harmony with the world around you. But that state and enlightment are not the same by the way, as actual enlightment is "leaving" your body with your senses, and that's on completely different level apparently.

One of the very first figth oriented manga I read Is "Tough", and later its sequel "Free Figth". It is about a young guy who is trained by his father in the ultra secret martial art technique of his family, called the Nadashinkage, who happen to be a very complete martial art. I read it prior to Baki, and this his pretty mich why I don't like Baki. Tough is better drawn, has a better story, better characters (Kiryu, who appear late in the first serie, is a way better Yujiro in my opinion) and is more believable (but having his fair share of unbelievable things too) IMHO. I used to think Baki took after Tougth, but after looking at the date of publication for those two manga, it is certainly the opposite, but I still read Tough first. There is 3 OAV of it, covering a little bit of the story, you can find it on the internet, as I don't know if you can still buy of find the manga (it was in the late 90/early 2000 that I read it).

You watched the dub?!?!!!??!?!! Stick to the original to see exactly what the author was trying to convey. Dub changes the dialogue and situations of the story

Baki the grappler ... who's a striker, whose characters have more muscle on them than Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronnie Coleman in their primes combined ... I knew Rokas was delusional, but this is just sad ... and to think people make fun of Dragonball ... this makes Dragonball look like a fn National Geographic documentary
