I was a A6e mechanic that served aboard the Kittyhawk and the Vinson in the early 80’s. Imagine the diverse aircraft we had; A6, EA6, A7, F8, F14, S3... Now mostly F/A18. The Hornet was just being tested back then, I was in awe of that aircraft. Our squadron was used in the testing in Fallon for refuel capabilities. Very small fuel tank. Now, we’re going into multi capable F35 in the 3 branches of the military.

Great video. Don't need the music. It's more realistic without it. It once was said to "speak softly, but carry a big stick". That's what our military does. The best offence is a great defense. I was USAF OV-10A, Vietnam 1970. Our problem was they were fighting for independence and we were fighting their war. We failed. My dream was to launch and recover on a carrier. The flight deck is truly a ballet.

@67tomcat7 жыл бұрын
Believe they lower the hook when approaching the ship or in the landing pattern.
@whitloli7 жыл бұрын
Hayser83 Photo op... I believe when they are of base leg they are dirty down...gear down hook down and flaps down
@reillybrangan21827 жыл бұрын
Ive heard its a standard procedure to lower your hook early so that theres less of a chance for the hook step to be skipped and have an aircraft pull a bolter because their hook wasnt down.
@MadMax026007 жыл бұрын
the hook must be down at the "initial" fix (the start point of the landing pattern). In the day pattern it is usually lowered when holding overhead. During CASE III recoveries (night or bad weather) the hook is lowered at the "dirty up" call, about 10nm aft the ship.
@phillymathguy81426 жыл бұрын

What's the average rank of the deck crew?
@TrBo17367 жыл бұрын
They're all enlisted guys- seamen to petty officers. I don't think there are a whole lot of chiefs up there either. The officers are in the control tower for the most part
@alanwhiteside4106 жыл бұрын
Every person is on that deck to do a particular job no more or less. All flight deck crew are color coded for their job that way they can keep an eye on them from the bridge where the officers are save and out of the way. Trust me if they were on the deck someone would get hurt. Lol
