Thanks Toby for the video. I noticed a number of kids there from your pictures. Good to have a new generation of fans. Perhaps future artists.

Good point Blain, there were a few but not as many as I had hoped. Mostly 45-55 year olds not surprisingly ;-)

1. Many thanks with all the help in my late pledge not going through. 2. As a kid for some reason I never ever saw all these books. Just the Choose Your Own Adventure series and a smattering of D&D ones other kids had but would never tell me where/how they got them. 3. Now as an adult with limited time and honestly no interest in playing current TTRPGs or just dealing with all the personalities that come with it your games, similar ones and now I need to look into these sorts of books are curing an itch that's been creeping in lately. I have a large collection of 2E thru 3.5E I need to dig out and look through.

No problem. Ah you are feeling the nostalga kicking in maybe...the yearning for linear things that are isolated to books. I love the older stuff. I too collect old RPG stuff :-)
@didiosthrance4 ай бұрын
@@TobyLancaster_DR_Games I have always loved lore. I think a good half of my game books I bought for that reason and my old group never used them heavily. I'm to scatter brained to flesh a full story out, but these sorts of games itch that creative part of me because even though it may be linear in the sense of A to B, lots of wiggle room to get to B and not set in stone. Heck I used to buy MTG cards back in the day simply for the art and would craft stories in my head for the low lore ones until I finally met people who played the game and finally started playing as well.

Wish I could go. Grew up on Fighting Fantasy. Also, House of Hell was my favourite AND my copy of 'Fighting Fantasy - The introductory Role-playing Game' is exactly as beat-up as yours!

Ah ha! Maybe next time? I'm going to have a good look at the House of Hell. If they have it on steam maybe I'll do a playthrough!

This old Yank thanks you! Though I had a large number of games in 1986 when I was 12, game books were still a strong part BUT, despite a (very) few transplants of LW and fewer still of FF…most of it was just and only “choose this or that”, period. Zzzz! Heh I only discovered the absolute brilliance of FF a handful of years ago. Heck, I’m jealous you guys had Warlock and Proteus magazines! I wish I could have gone to the book store and, instead of buying yet another rules set or adventure…grabbed a few game books, plus two issues focused on solo play! Despite FF rpg and AFF rpg being now represented by AFF2nd…. I’ve found so much more joy in games that focus on original FF….like Troika! But, now, far better still… The free Spellzard! FF rpg with minimal expansions and still easy, lite, fast and fun! I highly recommend it!

Yeah it is a truely pure form of solo RPG whihc is lots of fun. I have done a few streams of Warlock, Snow Queen and Freeway and it reminded me of how fun they are. As a 10 year old when I first tunred the pages of Warlock and saw Russ Nicholson's illustrations I was captured immediately and I have never returned.. ;-)

Yeah, the old FIST recordings are back! £26...I was thinkning about that and I'm not too bothered by spending a bit more for the cause if you get what I mean.

Seems to get evermore popular. The first one in 2014 was packed but the queues were not as slow.

very much so...hopefully we get more stalls next time! I love it

@@TobyLancaster_DR_Games they should put the stalls round the back like the first two at UoE. Loads of space and frees up the other room. I'll get a stall going once I'm famous enough 🤣

I was disappointed by the lack of vendors, the boys wanted to pick up some MTG cards and a set of dice but there weren’t able to find any. The talk by Iain McCaig was great though and the deathtrap dungeon play through was fun. On the plus side I didn’t spend too much money! The food and drink situation was crap though. They were understaffed and under provisioned. I felt sorry for the two staff members but one of our group never got their food at all, if we’d known earlier we could have shared. Over all it took an hour and a half and my friend had to make do with a packet of crisps. Overall it was great we had a fantastic time! but, if they do it again they need the coffee shop in the middle open again
@TobyLancaster_DR_Games4 ай бұрын
Agreed Kenny! It really did. It is a fantastic event but it needed more stalls and the cafe open. I wonder if they just have a hard time organising it...maybe a small crew...I might help out next time if they'll have me.
