Oh man, from the very first second of the video on, I felt bad for the poor guy ending up in this situation, but as soon as the battle was over and I saw the positioning of the army, that feeling was gone completely. This was like begging for getting crushed. You know, usually I'd say accepting the defeat and (most likely) the loss of several hours of progress is a good way of remembering your mistakes for the future, but getting publicly called dumb and arrogant for the shit you got yourself into by KZbin's most famous Total War player probably brings that to a whole new level, I guess. :

Should've sent Legend my disaster in which i had to face two full stacks of Wood Elves while only having a stack of darkshards led by Malekith on VH/Legendary. It was a shitshow I've played for a whole week before I finally got a pyrrhic victory with no units wiped out. Wood Elves are such a pain to deal with on higher difficulties.

I was watching Legend's stream on my personal computer then rolled over to my work laptop for a 1.5 hour meeting. This came on shortly after when Legend stopped streaming and I kept glancing over every so often like "Wait that's the same battle" until the battle came to a heroic victory right as my meeting came to a close. My guess is that it is something to do with impact hits: I'm not sure whether this is common knowledge since I had never heard of it until I killed elves with a Ghorgon just by walking into them, but big models can do damage without attacking just by touching smaller models. Could be when the Zoat falls over after dying it hits the horse hard enough to trigger the impact hit.

In my high elves campaigns Imrik is usually the one that's stuck with basic archers for the longest time. First you need to reach tier 5 to unlock star dragons, then you need to find some time for him to stop fighting and recruit them globally. But I also have a tendency of sticking to basic archers instead of sisters of Avelorn for a long time. Not becasue of the money, but because of the global recruitment time. Looking at this guy's campaign, I'm not sure if he spams entrepreneurs, seeing as he only makes 10k on turn 104.

You’d think he’d have a Sister Stack. The armour piercing, magic and flaming attacks would have made the battle relatively simple. He could have almost had a regular field battle rather than cheesing the A.I to come at him 1 unit at a time.

@@SereglothIV IMO It's better to have a Dragon-willed prince to recruit dragons (he'd be able to recruit dragons in 2 turns), then either bring them to Imrik or replace Imrik with another lord and in 5 turns replace that Prince with Imrik. HE economy can afford this

I haven't finished but given he's Tor Yvresse and this is Alarielle I'm guessing Alarielle went off to fight the SoT and he confederated her and didn't yet swap out the full army. Slow confed but seems likely to me.

@@JB-xl2jc he's playing as nagarythe not tor yvresse. alarielle usually is confed by other High elves by then, like Tyrion and the guy already owns all the donut already so late confed is unlikely. She's also usually not aggressive to sisters, not enough to go hunt them down. I cant see any confed penalties at the top screen but legend didn't check them so idk. The composition of this army doesn't look ai built and neither do the Lord and hero skills, especially for this late. I think the player was just a goober and over extended thinking it would be easy since they only had the tree left.

Thank you for saying that the Wood Elves are unusually difficult compared to the other factions when AI controlled. I was taking more losses agaisnt them compared to any other faction and thought I was just playing badly- I wouldnt lose the battle but they'd always snipe an important unit or kite out something and hurt it badly. Now I understand that its the roster makeup and being well suited to how the AI does things.

Yeah, I just got through that push into their main settlement as HE and even with doomstacks of sisters it was tough. On legendary their armies are ridiculously difficult to trade with in an outright fight. Doing it with 1 stack of archers is just plain suicide and I find it hard to believe you could pull it off even after watching you do it.

I always find it jarring when he calls the Sisters 'she' as if there's only one of them. I'm thinking it's either muscle memory from every other lord being singular, or a reference to how they're one person split in two, symbolically or otherwise

My guess would be, that this was a discovered ambush Situation (or the sisters declared war over the end turn). He could not retreat anymore but he was not on force march. So, even so trying an ambush this Close to wood elfs is a hell of a risk, it is at least an understandable misstake.

Artillery doesn't. They removed this early on because it was problematic in multiplayer.

If you unman the artillery pieces does the AI go after the equipment if they are left outside the trees? If not, you could have the artillery workers hide and then reman when needed to ensure they don't hit trees (or, in the case of treemen, only the trees you want).

The AI definitely needs a rework... it shouldn't just chase flying units it can't catch, it should hunt for hidden units and not forget where it has seen then when they re-hide, it shouldn't send just single units, shouldn't separate its hero's Lord's too far from its main army on suicide missions, shouldn't use breath weapons in forests, shouldn't waste buff debuff spells on units not in combat. I don't have a problem with Legend cheesing the AI, but I do have a problem with CA's lazy and poor AI that makes it possible. Everything above should be fairly easy to code and would make huge difference to the ability to cheese the AI and offer more realistic/challenging battles. It doesn't seem they have done anything to address this in WH3 either.

02:45 I thought CA fixed it so that artillery and missiles could now pass through trees? I'm pretty sure I remember watching my flame cannons pass through trees that were directly in front of them. Correct me if I'm wrong there but I'm pretty sure it was part of the wood elf update that came out with Naestra and Arahan.

AI in Legend's battles: focuses on the wizards/flyers; when his hidden unit is revealed, sends a single unit to deal with it and forgets about its location when the unit is hidden again AI in my battles: igonres the wizards/flyers, scouts the entire map for hidden units, as soon as a single one is revealed sends their entire force there, even if my units are hidden back again WHY?

Big monster units cause crushing damage when they fall. You can see some Reavers' numbers trickle down at 55:43 as they bring down the Zoats.
