In the 3ds, you can get red and blue for the virtual console, and port pokemon with tm combos not learnable in gen 7. But gamefreak knowing this is gonna be a loophole for the machamp with fissure, ported pokemon from Gen 1 to pokemon bank will have their hidden abilities as their main ability instead. But ability capsule can bypass this.

7:30 a key trait of the Fighting type is that the Pokémon are specifically trained in advanced hand-to-hand combat techniques that tend to resemble human styles. This is why Karate Chop got changed to Fighting but not the Mega moves. Mega Punch and Kick are full of raw power but very unrefined, hence the typing and 50% accuracy.

In Gen 1, I picked Hitmonchan. I thought it was awesome that it learned Fire Punch, Ice Punch, and Thunder Punch. Then I found out that they were all based on it's garbage special stat. Abra, on the other hand, is a beast with the punch moves (but you have to teach them to him in Gen 2).

Hahaha, I remember my old gold save file with my Hitmonchan having the 3 elemental punches and Mega Punch. As a kid, I actually thought the games had the physical-special split from the beginning... and somehow thought mega punch was fighting type, probably something like "huh, it's a fucking megaton punch, how is it *not* a fighting type move" God, I have literal tons of appreciation and nostalgia for the first 2 gens, but I'm glad I became actually good at the game starting with gen 4 (skipped gen 3 until much later).

Yeah when I was making my own version of major pokemon trainer team's I was on Bruno's hitmonchan( In gen 1, 2 and 3wanted to give bruno's hitmonchan along with submission( gen 1), High jump kick( Gen 2) and Sky uppecut( Gen 3), all the elemental punches but before gen 4 all of them are special despite them BEING PUNCHES however thankfully bruno's hitmonchan can easily use the elemental punches along with a fighting move in gen 4 and 7 ALSO I HATE THAT THE TYPES THAT WERE SPECIAL OR PHYSICAL WERE LITTERALLY ALL OF THEIR MOVES LIKE HOW BITE IS SPECIAL AND SHADOW BALL IS PHYSICAL

It could be argued that, if you go by Locktin's definition, the Fighting-type is meant to represent "formal" fighting; a polished, refined style. Therefore, Mega Punch and Mega Kick could simply be the strongest punch or kick someone can do...without formal training. Making it "Normal" because a lot of things can punch or kick without formal martial arts training.

Also, Fighting types use attacks that they can perform with physical strenght or stamina, while Normal types use something like an "universal" energy that ressembles the essence of every type; thus, moves like Giga Impact and Hyper Beam can be learned by every single Pokémon that can actually learn MTs. So I guess they save Mega Punch and Mega Kick for Pokémon with abilities like Refrigerate, Pixilate, Aerliate, and Galvanize, whose anatomy allows them to learn Mega Punch and Mega Kick, but not Double Edge, Take Down, Return, or Frustration.

Yea, Mega Punch and Kick are just really strong punch and kick that doesn't require fighting skill, just need justified strength and matching anatomy for it... well, landing a hit with that momentum is another story so lower accuracy... A lot of Fighting types can learn either anyway, which can be useful to deal neutral damage to Poison, Flying and Fairy types

Update as of Scarlet and Violet: The hisui region added hisuian decidueye, hisuian sneasler, and hisuian lilligant to the roster of new fighting types. Then in the Paldea region, new fighting types were found in Annihalape, Quaquaval, all Paldean Tauros Forms, Pawmot, Flamigo, Great Tusk, Iron Hands, Slither Wings, Iron Valiant, and the Scarlet legendary Koraidon. Annihalape and Iron Valiant are the best out of the new Fighting pokemon. As I am aware, there were 3 new fighting move in the games: Axe Kick, a signature move of Lokix with base 120 and 90% accuracy with possible side effects, Combat Torque used by Eri's Revavroom which is base 100 and 100% accuracy but is currently unobtainable, and Koraidons signature move Collision Course, a base 100 move with 100% accuracy and will boost the move by 50% if it is supereffective.

Something that you seem to miss in these videos, and was Glaringly obvious to me here, is what a new Generation brings to some old Pokemon, either via moves or in this case, Ability. Sur you mentioned Blaziken, but only briefly. Machamp got my absolute favorite ability in Gen 4. No Guard. Dishing out Dynamic Punch left and right was the best part of many battles back in Diamond for me.

I also like the fact that they changed their perspective on fighting types. The older gens, most fighting types were really focused on martial arts.. They extended their perspective on this by making fighting types pretty DUEL oriented, so they took stuff like gladiators in account and weaponry and thus The Justice pokemon were designed but also SirFetch who holds weapons (dueling) and Falinks who is inspired by Gladiators, really cool

I just think it's a good viewpoint because he doesn't have some idiotic reverence for the first gen and has a healthy look on it - it's a fucking miracle they managed to fit the game onto the cartridge, but jesus is it obvious it's held together by string and chewing gum. While this perception became very popular to see gen 1 realistically as a flawed gem to be polished (and again, kudos to the devs to fucking managing this), I remember times where even remotely criticizing gen 1 made people basically lynch you. Good thing genwunners apparently are getting less hostile or just more chill.

I acknowledge it's flaws, it is the Gen where Mr. Mime and Jynx were introduced however. But I also don't flat out hate it, like some people who are from later gens, cuz I also acknowledge that the Gen 1 is where it all started so it's special. So while I'm from Gen 1, I have many favorite Pokemon from later gens.

As Lockstin once said in one of his videos, Mega Punch/Kick aren't fighting type, due to them basically being just... Hitting hard with brute force, literally anything with arms or legs can do that, while fighting moves such as Karate Chop is something like a skillful strike.

@@joshhallam4555 Well think of it like this, a BIG strong muscular man goes up against a martial artist in trying to break a brick, and yeah, you CAN use brute force like most people, but it won't be very effective. Meanwhile an experienced martial artist can have a more easier time doing so with skill and precision. As for the Dark type, think of it as cheap tactics rather than hard hits. For example moves like Throat Chop or Bite, and Bite is dark type because biting in a real fight is actually a cheap tactic, thus the person getting bitten flinch, and Throat Chop is self-explanatory.

Normal types are actually quite dominant in gen 1 competitive. Tauros is pretty much the undisputed king of OU, Snorlax is also excellent, and Persian is less common, but has a very useful niche so long as you don't face or remove Gengar. Part of the reason for this is that the also superb Psychics make fighting types too much of a liability (in addition to the very lackluster fighting moves).

Here's an update for this video: Gen 8: the new pokémon were Hisuian Lilligant, Hisuian Decidueye and Sneasler. The new moves were Triple Arrows, the signature move of Hisuian Decidueye, added in Leyends Arceus (Arkoos) with a 50 BP and 100 acc that gives the used a +2 increased crit ratio and always reduces target's defense in 1 level. Now in gen 9 has a BP of 90, its PPs were reduced from 15 to 10, has a high chance to do crits, has a 50% chance to reduce the target's defense by 1 level, and has a 30% to flinch. Gen 9: the new pokémon are Quaquaval, Pawmot, Flamigo, Annihilape, Great tusk, Slither wing, Iron hands, Iron valiant and Koraidon. Off these Annihilape and Great tusk would make by far the biggest impact. The new moves are Combat Torque, Caph Starmobile's signature move with 100 BP and 100 acc with a 30% to paralyze, and Axe kick with 120 BP and 90 acc with a 30% to confuse the target. However if it misses, the user losses half of its maximum HP. The specialists are Dendra, the Battle Studies teacher of the academy, and Eri, the boss of Team Star's Fighting crew, the Caph Squad. Zacian currently outclasses its counterpart severely, thanks to an ability and movepool that are much more useful. The simple addition of Body Press to Zamazenta's learnset would drastically improve its viability since it synergizes so well with its stats and ability.
