Man, I LOVE your videos. You really know what you're talking about. I've been a boxer for 6, almost 7 years now and in my free time I thumb through your vids just to cherry pick on some of your advice. The only thing I wanted to bring up was something you said at the end of mistake 2 when you mentioned those guys who complain of elbow pain from throwing jabs. I was expecting you to bring it up but it was overlooked. One of the most common causes of elbow pain from throwing jabs is not utilizing the corkscrew effect when throwing them. Not only does it exert more power when throwing your jab or right cross, but it also eliminates any snap on your elbow when it's thrown. Likewise, when you use the corkscrew effect it also causes your shoulder to rotate upward, guarding your chin and leaving you less exposed to a counter strike if they telegraph the jab, circle right (or left if you're a southpaw) where your chin would be exposed otherwise. Other than that little interjection, I have NOTHING negative to say about what you do here on youtube. You're a fantastic boxer and martial artist all around. Keep up the great work man!
@kaialoha6 жыл бұрын
limbs naturally spiral on extension. Stopping the spiral is unnatural and therefore tensioning on incorrect muscles. Results in reduction in speed and injuries. Free natural flow is the way.
@resedent20095 жыл бұрын
kai I don’t understand why you think the shoulder and radius/Ulna naturally internally rotate during extension of the elbow? The wrist flexors, pec group, internal rotator cuff etc. don’t fire automatically during elbow extension/shoulder flexion

@vladimirdinev85257 жыл бұрын
Hey, Shane. Elbow pain with the jab is real. I'm a tall dude with long-ass arms so I was struggling with that a lot. What I found is when you rotate your wrist during the jab so your thumb points down towards the floor then the joints align and your shoulder comes naturally upwards to the side of your face, so you don't eat a hook. The jab becomes powerful and stable, no pain. Same goes for the cross. Thanks for the video.

Just to add: A solution for elbow pain in the jab is to rotate the fist more. This prevents popping the elbow at full extension. Once enough experience is obtained, this will not be an issue with or without fist rotation as the student's body adjusts to the jab and it becomes natural. Great video!

Thank you for breaking this down. My instructor isnt very detailed on the why if a stance. I felt so lost. Nothing felt right in my posture or stance. Thank you so much. I'll take this to class and use it

I love this guy's info. Straight to the point, and I probably learned more about boxing in watching a few of his videos than years of watching fights. Very informative! I subscribed by the way lol

Try putting grease on your face before so the skin does not tear from friction

If you bruise easily it could be a mild hemophilia or thin blood, check with a doctor about it

the novaapple The thing about karate is that its a sport so in a street fight (or school fight, pretty much any fight without any rules) its kinda hard to do (in my opinion)

+fightTIPS Great vid, interesting that you mentioned the feet briefly and MMA, I watched a lightweight kick-boxer who`s some big deal and he had no footwork, spoke to a kick-boxer in comments section who said he was trained on his feet but it wasn`t needed in Kick-boxing! Surely that`s not true?!

Great tips, another good tip is use the opposite hand to jab, or switch it up. It confuses the opponent while not difficult to master and integrate into movement.
