Figuring Out the New Systems! Garmin GPS integration.

This year I am going back to flight training with the intention of adding an IFR rating to my pilot privileges. I spent over a year getting the plane and panel ready for this training. Follow along as I move through this training over the next few months. In this video I spent time not under the hood learning the integration of the Garmin GPS 175 to the GRT EFIS. One problem I keep running into is getting the autopilot to track the hold course that the GPS flight plan is sending. I have spent time using the Garmin Simulator and I can not replicate the issue there. I think a few more flights using the system may help me to understand the system.

I had almost the same setup in my 601xl, minus a nav radio and AP servos. Huge fan of the GPS175 and GRT EFIS combo. For my flight plans, I rarely changed the flight plan on the 175 itself. I found that hooking my EFB up to the bluetooth, editing the flight plan on Foreflight, then sending them to the 175 was easier for me and less reaching.

In ifr training and working on a 650 myself. Are you planning to get into imc at all in that airframe? Or rent a 172 or the like for the actual imc time? And final question. How is the view over the dash? Personally i like to sit really high up so i can see clear over the cowling but it seems the 650 seats are really deep, seems like you are about eye level with the pannel.

I live in AZ and we only get like one or two actual days of IFR a year. I would go into IMC with the plane but i have not had an opportunity to do so.

Curious about the Garmin unit: is there no equivalent offering from GRT or is there a TSO requirement for IFR operations even in a homebuilt?

the only units in the market are from Garmin or Avidyne. You must use a certified GPS for WAAS GPS approaches, or one that meets the Technical Standard. So far not a lot of options in the market.
