Cool video Larry, but I'm not sure you can chalk up the whole change in TAS to the fairings alone. Your original screenshot showed that you were at 2500 ft on the before, and your second test was at 4000 feet. Higher up you should have a higher TAS. I would think a better test would be at the same density altitude.

What model of fuel pumps do you have in there? Also, how did you connect the two together in the middle - is it 1/4 npt male nipple to npt female union to 1/4 npt male nipple (or is there some flare in there)?

@mynefield they facet pumps and are the ones specified in the William Wynne fwf manual. they have an AN6 fitting on each end and I used a strait coupler.

Having an aircraft that requires selecting fuel tanks for take off is asking for trouble, especially for low time pilots, (or anyone for that matter)?
@zenvairpilotАй бұрын
@rolacook222 every low wing airplane is configured that way. the PA 28 180 i also fly is the same, you select the tanks and change them during flight. high wings have the advantage of gravity feed and can be set to both.

Lake Speed Jr engine oil geek and is a lube specialist. I think his data on oil analysis shows too much zinc is not good.
@zenvairpilot2 ай бұрын
@dewholdingsllc1050 zinc does have many benefits. for example it is needed during breakin of an engine especially with flat tappet cam lifters and push rods. Also most if not all assembly lubes have high Zinc in them. the issue is that ZDDP is being limited or not added to oils and any benefits they have are lost. Camguard has a different additive that plays the same roll but without effecting the oils viscosity.
@dewholdingsllc10502 ай бұрын
@@zenvairpilot Yes, other compounds that may help the engine wear. I assumed you were speaking about zinc content. My point was a lot of folks think if it works in one instance it works in all instances. Especially too much zinc is not a good thing. Lake Speed Jr's data on engine oil analysis (his point) is don't mess with the protection package of the oil maker. Use the correct oil for the correct application. He does not like oil additives in general, he does like fuel additives. He does not like long intervals between oil changes, he may disagree with you over the length of your oil change intervals in your engines. I run a lot of performance cars and boats. 30-35 hours is probably the most I let it go. Oil is cheap. A lot of owners of diesel engines go too long between changes and excessively let them idle. Soot kills diesels. Lake Speed Jr. has a few posts on this point of too much zinc. I assume you know his work? Developed oil for Joe Gibbs Racing among others. Again its in the analysis data correct?

First at critical phase, taxi, runup, take off no unnecessary talking. You should never answer phone once engine is running. . At the airlines when doing a Check list If we are interrupted. YOU START check list OVER.... Low wing Pipe, my RV-7 and this plane apparently, typical of all low wings, there is no both, only L or R. You should never have zero fuel in a tank.... If their is a leak or blockage you want that second tank. Last you use term "PROPER TANK". OK some use fullest tank. In general I taxi and runup on the tank I use for take off. You don't want to switch tank immediately before take off. That is my CFI advice and RV7 pilot advice. That will be $30. Ha ha. Admire you fight to repair so quickly. Well done.
