I worked in the medical field (clerical) for almost 20 years. Over time the corporation switched from the focus on patient care to getting rid of alot of support staff, the physicians pressured to see more patients in a day and doing much of the administrative work themselves, etc. They now have their noses buried in the computer rather than time face to face with the patient. Also lost alot of staff due to vaccine mandates.

I think this is speaking from a privileged position, everything is preventable and accessible to people who are not stressed about family working excessive hours and have the money to implement the changes. It’s easy to say that in theory it’s the basics like sleeping exercise and eat healthy. It’s not that simple and everyone’s life is so different it’s not a universal solution for most.

@@davidtran9444 yes and often times life and your health are affected by external factors, accidents, sequelae …any complication or condition that results from a pre-existing illness, injury, or other trauma to the body, mental health, lack of continuity of care or perceived non compliance because they couldn’t afford to get treatment. Just so many variables and I think people are so quick to make assumptions like people are lazy or just don’t want to change and it’s often not the case. I just know any time I’ve needed care for anything I had the access and financial means to to do whatever it takes to make me feel 100 percent better and that itself is such a luxury a lot of people don’t have.

Fat shaming only works for certain people, otherwise it's just discouraging and can make them worse. Especially if they gained weight through emotional eating or eating to cope with trauma. Shaming is how they got fat (and may need therapy). You can be straight up with them and even stern, some need that strict talking especially when it comes to health (or have a doctor do it).

I have a medical condition which has me on longer terms meds which doesn't always work. When there are issues, I am temporarily put on meds that almost immediately causes me to gain weight. In just a few days, I could very well go from 120lbs to 130lbs. Who knows what my weight could look like if I had to be put on those meds permanently!

@@TheHighHorse Not when it is at the expense of a patient under her care.🤨 The nurse took a personal face time call with her family while she was on the job. By turning off the heart monitor alarm she was neglecting the patient's needs and the warnings the machine were supposed to be reporting, hence it being a monitoring device, which ultimately contributed to the patient's death. 🤨 I doubt you would be so forgiving if that patient happened to be one of your family members. 🤨

In Canada incident reports in terms of staff & patient safety is handled differently, they are looked at & reviewed promptly, at least where I work at. The big difference between Canada & the US is, hospitals in Canada are non -profit and most staff belonged to a union. In the US the hospitals gets dinged if their infection rate for example is high or if their AEs incidents are high etc, so what can happen is they would not include certain data in their report because if they go beyond the threshold the may not get the budget or subsidy they expect from the gov't. Kaiser's reason for terminating Maria Gatchalian, the name of the nurse is just nonsense. From the report they indicated that Kaiser terminated her due loss of confidence for "allegedly stepping on a patient equipment with her bare feet". The nurse worked in the hospital for over 30 freakin' years & all of a sudden they lost confidence in her ability to function as a charge nurse because of that allegation? I wonder what equipment was that, regardless what should have been assessed is the consequence of her doing that & her reason, was there harm as a result? Anyway good on her for fighting this. I can sympathize with her as I too, though from different, yet still unfair reasons was also at one point being told of my possible termination, but fortunately I am part of a union who fought for me. What I am curious is how do the jury comes up with the amount of compensation or damages to award. Even with the length of jail time I am curious the process how the courts come up with the # of years to give criminals.

I think its a multi-step solution over time: - make foods like fruits, veggies, healthier grains and meats more affordable - teach basic cooking, food and meal prep skills much earlier and consistently in schools - make physical activity a part of daily work time or make it more accessible for people to access gyms/fitness (maybe even financial incentives for employees to utilize gyms) - make new cities more walking/bike friendly - make accessible more meal prep companies so quick, easy, healthy meals made at home are possible for families with busy schedules Etc. A lot of times, people are just trying to feed their families and a large pizza may be more affordable than the veggies, meat etc needed to prep the meal. Years living like that, getting fast food to feed their family and it becomes a habit.

I get adjusted and acupuncture every month. She always catches things before it becomes a problem. In healthcare I believe should be run by doctors not corporations. It would take care of a lot of prolbems.
