I like the Duck-Alan matchup. Sometimes you just want to watch a good game of chess between strong players without the trash talk shenanigans.

Yes but I was disappointed by the game, I expected more "fire". :D

If I wanted an extremely solid game without trash talk, that's 99% of the internet. Literally any tournament, anything with Carlsen, etc. There are better chess players than Duck/Alan, but there aren't better chess comedians than Dave/Mike/Carlini/Cesar. They're the lifeblood of this channel. Makes no sense to want games without trash talk by random 2k rated's.

Duck's little companion gives Duck extra information during the game , totally unfair even in this casual setting.

as a filipino, i love how Alan's stage name in coffee chess is grandPAmaster. for the normal viewers, its just a fun way to call him that cuz he's a grandpa ''grand father'' who plays great but to us filipinos there is another meaning. it can also mean ''grand PA-master'' meaning that he is like imitating or being a ''wanna be'' grand master. which fits cuz he is a chess hustler :D idk

Enjoyed the "Vikings Attack Castle Wall" check mate mood music. When the opening horns played, I thought you guys were either filming at a marina near ocean going vessels or that somebody driving by had an eclectic taste for car horns.

Alan and "Duck"worth are both very tricky 5-minute players! Alan seems to be "trying" to be more aggressive than usual (from what I have seen for games played by him in the past) ... for example "grabbing" material forcefully (physically) to suggestively(?) intimidate "The Duck". When two players that are capable of a little "trash talk" do not talk ... you know they are taking the game seriously. :) An important endgame learning opportunity that may be a midrange to advanced idea occurs in the, "What other move than ... Rg6" position, where at the end of his line he talked about the falling pawn on c4 after this move 2. Ke3-e4 (calling this move 2 just for reference with the other moves below) which a casual observer might notice that this allows Black to pick up the c pawn after 2. ... Rd4+ not looking for a follow-up. But further explanation of computer analysis is important here after 2. ... Rd4+ 3. Kf5! the White K helps to either confine the Black K or win the f7 pawn. If 3. ... Rxc4? 4. Rc7+ Kf8, both 5. Rh2 or 5. Rh1 wins by threatening to make this rook available for a threatened check on g2/g1 (such as with 5. ... Rh6 to remove the rook as a target and keep the White K from getting to the 6th rank, but then 6. Rc8+ Kh7 7. Rg2+ leads to a technical win after either 7. ... Rg6 8. Rxg6+! fg+ 9. Kg5 and Black's pawn is too slow for the coming 10. Rc6+ driving the White K away from the g6 pawn, or 7. ... Kh7 8. Rgg8! threatens the mate in 2 to lead Black to give up a rook), but instead 5. e6! is also a strong move and very intuitive for a serious endgame player as it helps to simultaneously open up and cut off the Black K and leave the h8 rook stranded as a target, and if 5. ... fe+ 6. Kg6!! threatens to win the Black rook via 7. Rc8+ and if 6. ... Rg8+ 7. Kf6 Black is threatened with mate on c8 and can only give up the rook after 7. ... Ke8 8. Rc8+, this being a classic position players can at first be fooled by as being "okay" for Black. After 5. e6 fe 6. Kxe6 Rb4 (to b6+) heads towards double rook positions where the Black K is safer, or if 5. e6 fe+ 6. Kf6 Rh6+ forces White to hopefully find the Kg6 idea after 7. Kg5 Rh8 8. Kg6 and the passive h8 rook is caged in by the Black K is an incredibly important endgame idea. Instead of taking the Black pawn with 3. ... Rxc4, Black could try another move but the h5 pawn is more of a hindrance than an asset as it ties down the Black R, thus, White is winning. (Life Master Arthur Braden)
@arthurbraden4102
@arthurbraden4102 3 жыл бұрын
... by the way the former Canadian Champion GM Peter Biyiasis showed me the endgame idea that if there is a relatively isolated and passed rook pawn that the strongest defense is often to blockade it from in front of the pawn (assuming you cannot get behind the enemy pawn). He politely suggest this after I drew a game where I was a pawn up to improve my approach to these positions, very kind of him).

3:58 how about Queen A4 ? Threatening Knight to C7 double check, white have Queen D7 to prevent that, but then Bishop to H3 cause a lot of trouble , even Pawn F5 doesn't solve the problem for blacks as Bishop can take F5 guarded by the E4 Pawn. The only "good" defense against Queen A4 here is i think King F8, getting out of sight but castle no more. I don't know maybe i didn't see something ?
