Hugot begins as an expression or a tease when someone sings emotional or heartbreak songs very emotional/good, we often says, "may pinaghuhugutan" meaning the emotion given to the song has a background/past experience from the one singing it that is why they feel it so much resulting in singing it great.

Hugot also connotes to something emotional one can relate to, like talking about random intense sentiments out of the blue or out of he topic. Hope you could also react to it. Almost like a punchline or pick up line on a deeply emotional but funny level. Eg. " this place is so cold....as cold as his treatment to you", " ( bump into something) ouch that hurts! Hugot is not only used in singing. Usually Hugot is used by filipinos as connotation to someone who always relates his personal experience which is usually emotional and sad to something. For example when a he/she saw a bus leaving a passenger… He/She can relate the bus leaving its passenger to his/her ex girlfriend that also leaves… Another example is when you ate a cake which is sweet. And when you say this cake is better than my girlfriend because my girlfriend is not sweet anymore… As long as you can relate your experiences to something then that is called hugot… Hugot can be seen in songs especially if the singer puts too much emotion to his singing. You will know that it is not just a song. It is telling a story from the singer itself… so that is what hugot in singing means So hugot can be anywhere not just in singing…
