Guys as someone whos filipino but was never taught i just hope you remeber what it was like learning english. cuz in america youll rarely hear someone say "hello, nice to meet you. Whats you name? my name is ____" because of all the slang we use, it would be more like "hey im ___ whats your name?" but someone who is just learning the language wouldnt know that. You have to learn how to speak formally before you learn slang

To those who are saying that the lesson is wrong just because they teach what we call “malalim na salita”. Remember, those who watch this are foreigners who want to learn our language. It is just right to learn the formal way of speaking. Yes, here in the philippines we don’t use those kind of sentences because we are all filipinos. If we talk to each other we just add “po” “opo” to be respectful. But when we talk to foreigners we must be more formal to have our nation more respect. Hindi yung pag sumagot ka sa kanila ang sagot mo e sagot pang kalye. Remember they are not natives. Just like in korea. They have honorifics, formal and informal ways of speaking. Those who are learning are encouraged to learn the formal way before the informal because it is more polite using formal in talking. Same with tagalog. It is just right to learn the more polite way of speaking tagalog than what we usually use in daily speaking.

This video kinda represents a formal way of introducing yourself. So if you wanna be "informal" and just straight-up wanna have a simple, friendly conversation with one, use these as an example: "Hi, ako si ______, ikaw?" Translation: "Hi, my name is ______, you?" For elderly people: "Hi po, ako si _______, ano pong pangalan nyo?" Translation: "Hi, my name's ______, whats your name?" its the same, but with manners, since "po" is an extention used in Filipino sentences as a way to showcase your manners. While "opo" basically means "oo" which means "yes" in English, is another way to be a mannered person in Philippines. You could use this on elder people. There's much more to add, but it's my pleasure to give these tips to my fellow learners.

To be honest as a Filipino it's hard for me to learn filipino language since my mother tongue is bisaya and mostly of people here in Philippines don't used filipino instead they used tagalog, because tagalog is a mix of different languages like English, Spanish, Chinese, and etc. languages. Tagalog is way beautiful, flexible, and complex. Tagalog is spoken by the Tagalog ethno-linguistic group, with 28 mil. speakers. Filipino has 45 mil. speakers These two languages are beautiful, but there's just a stumbling block, and that's colonial mentality, lack of education, and no value for own history, culture, and identity, basically Tagalog and Filipino is either evolving disgustingly or on its way to extinction.

I'm here from Japanese Podcast 101. Wow! I never knew there is a Tagalog/Filipino language tutorial too
@shoshishoshi1273 жыл бұрын
I think the actual problem with this tutorial is that the first example is still "formal" even without "po." You can also speak informally to an elder with "po" and "opo." For example, you are telling your parents that you have already washed the dishes you can talk to them informally like, "Nahugasan ko na po yung mga pinggan." "Po" and "opo" are just words used to show respect to people older than you or to the authority. However, if you want to make it formal while speaking to someone younger than you or you are you are in a formal event you can say, "Hinugasan ko na ang mga pinggan," or "Ang mga pinggan ay hinugasan ko na." Formal Filipino can be heard in news forecasts and these broadcasters don't even use "po" and "opo" to the audience.
