This is why i love KZbin. Theres a video for damn near every idea one could possibly fathom. Ive had this idea since i was an early teen. Ive always thought if i took the gears off of a mountain bike and put them on the axle of a go-kart i could have as many gears as possible to get a different torque ratio and maximum output potential out of any engine. Glad to see someone else has put it together.

We had a factory 49 cc quad with the same engine. As I made the correct setup on the carburetor and the brakes, that was very thight, it managed to spin both rear tires on softer surface. But as I can see, you have a gear changer. That is the best part of your project!

Really nice build, well done. This being KZbin I have to point out a few things though, not out if malice but informative, I hope. Those back axles are too far from the frame, you will get flex and the axles will fail, I know from experience. When I was a kid at school, about age 13, over 50 years ago now, I built something along the same lines but without that bicycle gear arrangement, never got the gear ratio right but before I could, my axle snapped for that very reason. So, we tried and tried to get the thing running right but when that axle broke, we just dumped the thing in an alleyway behind the school and forgot about it. Many years later, 10, maybe 15, I was at a junk sale and came across a homemade lawnmower. To my astonishment I recognized the carburetor that I had modified for my Kart, then I noticed the engine was the same one. It was great to know that some other bloke had used what I had discarded for another use and that, at least one part of my Kart was still around and working. I thought about buying it but decided to let the thing live on in someone else's hands. Once again, nice job.

yeah that axle was like what 10mm? or 15mm max? Would need a solid 10cm axle width..

I took an adult sized pedal car and mounted a 49cc moped engine on it. Had to change the steering joints over to lawn mower type to keep it on the road. If you sneezed while driving,it would throw you out on the ground. We called it the wild mouse. 😂

Lots of drive chains thrashing about exposed. Years back we had an old Villiers 350 we played on the pit heaps with. Being kids maintenance wasn't high on our list. So dry and worn chains and cogs were the norm. One day the chain snapped and hot ravelled up in the engine casing. The damage was like a bomb had gone off. It tore lumps out the drive side crankcase. The guy who fixed it for us told us about a friend he had when the same thing happened to him. He was unlucky and it ripped part of his calf away. Not sure if the story was true but since I've always been wary of chains. Especially unguarded ones.

Personally I would've put a much more powerful engine on it, maybe a v twin and made the engine sprocket the same size as the 6th gear sprocket with the final drive sprockets the same size so the final engine to wheel ratio is 1:1 or maybe even a little bit overdrive. Little thing would probably get up to 60 or 65 mph.
@justinmacdonald60793 жыл бұрын
the engine's tiny. It wouldn't be powerful enough to get a person going if it was direct 1:1
@robertmyles91243 жыл бұрын
@@justinmacdonald6079 dude did you even fucking read my comment or are you illiterate? For one, I said PUT A MORE POWERFUL ENGINE ON IT. Secondly, I said make the SIXTH gear 1:1, meaning there would be literally FIVE whole fucking reduction gears before it to provide enough torque to get to where it sustain that 1:1 drive ratio at speed. Use some God damn context clues genius.
