How can a person viewing the video spot this mistake instantly - on first viewing.... Yet GCN can edit the video and put it out without spotting it? Shoddy
@leftaroundabout Жыл бұрын
@@germurphy4986 easy - for somebody seeing the video KZbin, any duplication is an obvious deja-vu. but when you're editing a video, you see _every_ clip multiple times to decide how to best put them together. So at the end when watching the whole thing to check, all of them will be deja-vus and the one that's actually duplicate doesn't stick out. There are worse things than stealing 10 seconds of viewers' time for a duplicate clip. (For example, stealing 10 minutes of viewers' time for a hardly-concealed commercial...) Then again, you don't pay them and don't need to watch their content, do you?

That's very interesting. Another little known fact about this bike is how they modified the saddle with grippy tape to stop any sliding around. No one ever mentions this but it's all about those aero gains!
@sueghdsifbvjvn Жыл бұрын
I think you guys missed talking about the point that they modified the saddle with grippy tape to stop any sliding around which encourages a bunch of core workout by the rider towards the end of the hour record which is ultimately more aero.

I loved how Ollie repeated himself about the tape on the saddle. Not only was Ollie enjoying a few mineral waters when he filmed the segment, apparently he also had a few while he was in the editing booth! Ignoring a couple of hiccups, this was a really good video. I love Ollie's enthusiasm for bicycle tech.

The narrow bottom bracket isn’t new. The idea was actually Greame Obree’s in the ‘90’s. He needed to build his own axle and bearings. As I recall, the bearings were the parts used from a washing machine. The press picked up in that and reported that the bike was built from old washing machines. Obree was years ahead in terms of his understanding of aerodynamics. A true maverick but one with much cleverness.

I have a 3d printer. Pretty sure i can print that humpback shape in strips and stick it on any seat tube. Using flexible filament. The CAD design of a wavy thing is one of the simplest things to design. Anybody interested? Would probably look kind of ugly, is the only thing... And not be particularly durable. But cheap as hell.

Wouldn't production bikes with trickled down technology still be too heavy when printed in any alloy compared to carefully laid up carbon bikes with the best fibers? You still can't print carbon. Customisation could maybe be done by 3D printing the customised moulds for carbon layout.

It's a mistake to allow such a massive R&D budget into the hour record. Now it's about $$$ as much as the rider. Now Ganna's amazing feat is not comparable to past record accomplishments. I loved Boardman's hr record when he only surpassed Merckx's Mexico 74 mark by 11m. That's what made it special. Now we're spending more time ogling the tech instead of appreciating the rider and their accomplishment. Bring back the hour record on a traditional bike!
