As a decorator for over 40 years I’ve always hung lining paper that’s going to be painted vertically! I’ve found if you hang it horizontally and even fill the joints then the paint tends to ‘sit’ on the joint and will open it as it dries! I personally butt joint my paper thus avoiding having to fill any joints at all and that will save you time and money. Everyone to their own I suppose but it works for me!

@derekwhitaker49056 ай бұрын
@@Stacy-hc6gv You must always make sure you paste the paper evenly and especially right to the edges. Also let it soak for the appropriate time. Lastly make sure you size any absorbent surfaces before you apply the paper. This will ensure the joints won’t split. Good luck 👍🏻

Im about to line the walls in my hallway and paint them after. I didnt realise the paper needed filled prior to decorating ( im learning as i go as need to do my house on a budget)
@Inexteriors3 ай бұрын
You can coat it up, then fill it, then touch up the filler, then coat up again. Make sure when you fill, you fill cleanly so it's easy to sand. Also, use a filler that sands easy so when you sand you are not damaging the paper.

How much can you charge for stripping filling sanding lining and then painting a typical room

About £1400 and more depending on room size, also other thing to consider are, how hard is the paper to strip, how much prep do the walls need when stripped

Hey Steve great video as always! I need some advice here please. Recently bought an old Victorian flat with tall walls same as in this video yay lol. It screems redecorating(as old buildings do) so we decided to do it ourselves. The bedroom has been lined wallpaper and painted over but I noticed the wallpaper is coming off in some corners of the room and has yellow spots, now I'm stuck whether to remove the whole wallpaper and re-wallpaper the whole room with lining paper or take the easy-bodge step to just glue it back with some wallpaper adhesive. I know removing the wallpaper will result in more work repairs and potentally ripping off the lath and plaster(oh god hopefully not lol) so, if bodging is my only option here - Can I use white silk emulsion on the existing lined wallpaper thats been painted over? or do I need to start from scratch by removing the old lined wallpaper? .....Many thanks!
@Inexteriors10 ай бұрын
Sometimes it is not worth taking of a good base for the sake of some of a few bits lifting, they can be stuck back by weting the paper and sticking with overlap adhesive. not sure about the yellow spots they might need stain blocking. what colour is on the lining paper now.
@RaGazz410 ай бұрын
@@Inexteriors yes I thought so. We need more investigation about the yellow spots, I'll double check.. The colour seems to be a Matt pale green almost sage colour 😵
