Great video and a lot of tips there, thanks. How do you go round the corner of the sloping ceiling - vertical to sloping underneath section? I have put up a insulated paper (Wallrock Thermal) which has worked a treat, but left an uneven edge. Not sure how to wrap the lining paper round the inclined edge without creating an overlap on the underside. Do you have any advice please?

Absolutely perfect .... until you get to the socket!. Sometime in its life, that socket will have to come off. You do not caulk around them. Always loosen them and tuck the paper behind!

I’m sorry but I disagree when I paint I don’t like any gaps shown it’s untidy if the socket needs removed it’s not a big deal to chaulk around the socket again if it’s a finish paper I tuck the paper behind .

@@gerardoneillhandpaintedkit9714 I totally get not seeing gaps. You’re right , it’s unsightly , but, somethings have to be expected and also accepted in life!!. Tbf . You’re going to have a gap round it when you tuck a finished paper round it anyway . This btw is not a critisam . It’s just how I was taught at tech ... many many years ago😱. I like watching how different decorators go about there jobs👍. Hope your getting a well earned Xmas break. Are you based in Ireland btw?

I just makes common sense to me.To hang lining paper that’s going to be painted.In the same way as any other wallpaper that’s printed blown vinyl etc.

Hi robin a lot of paperhangers make the mistake of pasting to many sheets the way I work I paste 2 sheets hang 1 then let the 2 no 1 soften so no need to rush👍

Hi, Love your video. I have just removed the old wallpaper and the lining left behind is sound, but a little patchy in parts. I was considering re-lining the whole room over the top of this. Or should I remove all the old lining paper and stick all new lining paper on? Also what grade paper should I use? I'm just going to emulsion the walls afterwards. Thanks

It’s actually expensive pine fitted by fitters & not stuck to the wall it’s a small guest room for my costumers guests 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

Quick question do you just caulk in corners of the walls before lining or do you do it after aswell before painting?

There's no need, but if you've not done internal angles with a slight over lap, you may prefer to run a caulk edge down to make it look better, then it also depends how you feel the top edges of skirting is looking you could just whip a fine caulk bead over them to seal the edge in, If I'm papering over lining paper, I will more than likely caulk all the edges, as when using a straight edge and blade it makes it easier to cut into the softer caulk than into plaster that may break away under the blade.

Hi you need to apply 2-3 coats of emulsion to have a solid finish

To be honest it really shouldn’t be patchy especially after 4 coats even 2 coats of vinyl are Matt emulsion should be enough over lining paper we’re you using a quality roller & brush & quality paint for the job

@@gerardoneillhandpaintedkit9714 Thankyou for your suggestion, greatly appreciated. I will replace roller and also wait until spring to reapply yet another coat. As well as rubbish roller that it is, further inspection tells me it’s only patchy on the radiator wall. Hopefully fingers crossed this may be the solution. Thankyou again for pointing out an obvious problem I overlooked.
