Really Tall Tree Guy

Really Tall Tree Guy

Күн бұрын

This was a nice job. We had a cluster of pines to remove, and the customer gave us permission to bomb anything we wanted. As such we threw out some pretty large tops and then just dropped the remaining sticks.

I’ve heard of zig zags slipping for a couple reasons. Faulty lever is one and also if it’s slipping on the same part of the rope you may consider doing what I did and just start using the other end of the rope or using a larger diameter rope depending on what you are climbing on now

I have a rope runner that was doing the same thing. I soaked it in rubbing alcohol and cleaned it up really good. I moved all the joints while is was soaking to loosen up all the sap that gets in there. Now it works like new. Not sure how that will work on the zig zag though.
@ReallyTallTreeGuy

Yea I cleaned the zigzag but still have the issue. I think it's about time for a larger rope.

It was Jed Walters who died by a hidden limb. August told us all that climbers have a brotherhood to stick together. RIP Jed. Be careful Tall Guy. ❤

My zigzag is doing the same. It was totally fine until I changed ropes. I’ve cleaned it really good and still does it. I’m assuming it’s just getting old (about 4 years old) so I’m going to be getting something else soon. Man they really just had you sitting in that tree that long… cmon now.
@ReallyTallTreeGuy

Yea I'm a big guy, so I think they wear out faster with me, I think I'll have to get a larger diameter rope. If that doesn't work I can just switch to my rope runner

How old is your ZigZag? I had the same issue, mine was 3 years old and started slipping. Bought a new one and haven't had an issue since.

It's only like 8 months old, same with the rope. Got them both at the same time. I just cleaned it out, so hopefully it works this week

Could just be the rope. Didn't you just get the new zigzag? I run one with a 12.5mm rope. Been on it over a year and no issues yet.
@ReallyTallTreeGuy

Yea probably 5 or 6 months ago. Any suggestions for a 12.5 rope?
@NickTaylor-lm1lv
@NickTaylor-lm1lv 5 ай бұрын
@@ReallyTallTreeGuy I'm using the petzel control 12.5 it comes in neon green and neon orange. I've also used the true blue while I was waiting on my rope to come in. The true blue is almost to big but it fits and definitely no slipping

@@ReallyTallTreeGuy only thing with the true blue I had to tape the end really tight to get it through the links before I could get ahold of it to finish pulling it through. But all and all I was happy with the way both ropes worked with the zigzag

It should tell you in the owners manual how to clean your device and it's unfortunate you can't adjust the sensitivity on the zigzag bit 3 in 1 oil and wd40 is what i use to clean mine
