People like to give Ben Johnson most of the credit for how good this offense is and he certainly deserves his fair share but Campbell deserves credit for it due to his aggressive nature. People give him hell when the 4th down calls don't work but him being that aggressive opens up everything for this offense. Once you get a fresh set of downs at your own 35 yard line as a play caller you know your coach is going for it on 4th and 2 or less so you essentially have 3 downs to get 8 yds instead of 10. This opens up the ability to try trick plays on 1st and 10 cause if it doesn't work you know you still have 3 tries to get the 1st down. Also opens up the run call on 2nd and 3rd and long knowing that you don't have to gain the full 10 yds. This completely keeps the defense off balanced and guessing the whole drive. Most teams on 3rd and 7 or 8 it's an automatic pass but not the Lions cause they are content running it for a 3 yards and setting up a 4th and manageable. Basically how other teams treat 2nd down. Stuff like this goes unnoticed by most critics cause they just magnify the times the 4th downs don't work but if you looked at the big picture you will see that it overwhelmingly helps the Lions.

08:00 The other thing about the trick plays, is your assuming that these sort of well-known trick plays are the only ones Ben Johnson is thinking about. That seems kind of crazy to me. In fact, I wouldn't put it past the guy to be using the trick plays in the season to set up a DoubleTree play or something else that will take advantage of the fact that teams practiced for these things. Also it's psychological warfare: it asked the question, can anybody else execute things like this? If you can't, what makes you think you can take us? Because we can do these sorts of trick plays all the time and actually execute them perfectly.

That first Jamo play would have been a TD if St. Brown hadn't overrun his block down field. Brock Wright did the same thing on the hook and lateral. Ran past the block that allowed the tackler to get into cut it off. Brock had a few plays where if LaPorta was in the plays would have been more successful. Lions run plays out of similar formations so formations are not much of a problem as far as giving plays away. They even ran the exact same play formation as the hook and lateral but ran a different play that resulted in St. Brown's 1st TD. That was the called play minus the lateral part.

Two things about the hook and ladder... you'll see more and more teams doing down the field laterals ( actual plays, not Kelce improvising) as the lions prove its effectiveness. And the reason you put on film ( same with the halfback option with Montgomery throwing to the tight end) is it PLANTS THE SEED, so now when Montgomery takes a pitch wide the line backers have to think might he throw, and when Amon Ra gets a slant they might look for a split second if theres a crosser. Its deliberately in there to mess with opposing teams minds in the future.
@sparkeyjamesАй бұрын
If Brock Wright had hit his downfield block on that hook and ladder Williams would have been gone. If you look at the play Wright doesn't EVER look back at the qb he knows the play but he flat out missed his block.

@stephenh5944Ай бұрын
Lions are averaging 33.6 PPG right now, which puts them at #11 all-time, just behind the 2000 GSOT Rams (assuming they can keep it up). Highest scoring teams to date by PPG: Broncos (2013) - 37.9 Patriots (2007) - 36.8 Chiefs (2018) - 35.3 Packers (2011) - 35.0 Patriots (2012) - 34.8 Vikings (1998) - 34.8 Saints (2011) - 34.2 Redskins (1983) - 33.8 Falcons (2016) - 33.8 Rams (2000) - 33.8

I have said before both BJ and AG are worthy of HC jobs but where can they go and have personnel like they have in Detroit. Dan C has previous coaching behind him and it still took him over 2 years to get the lions to where they are now. They could both go elsewhere but how long would it take to get a team built up like they have with the lions. Or they could stay in the MC and get multiple rinds and then move on with credentials many more times than they have now. I am kinda greedy I want lots of Super Bowl wins and I know both BJ and AG both do also. Their staying in Detroit is the best for everyone. I think SFH knows how important that she makes these two the highest paid OC and DC ever

Idk man, i know I'm being a bit of a hater, but how impressive is this really. They are incredible at play action over the middle passes and they have put up huge numbers on terrible linebacker groups. As soon as they run into a team that can handle the play action they're extremely limited. Call me crazy but any time we see a one trick pony ride that one thing all year into the playoffs it doesnt work. Not saying they can't do anything else at a high level but until i see it i have doubts.
@ChefMcNastyyАй бұрын
you lost me at handle the play action lol
@bradleerogers9418Ай бұрын
@ChefMcNastyy the vikings and the Bucs both did it. It requires a good linebacker group which not many teams have but we've literally already seen it happen this year.
@chrisbarr959Ай бұрын
one trick pony ? those routes in the middle open up because The lions make every Linebacker group look bad with the PA They beat Minnesota who at the time had the #1 defense , then they beat GB in GB when people said they coudn't play outside , Don't worry eagles will find out if the meet them in the playoffs
@bradleerogers9418Ай бұрын
@chrisbarr959 they struggled against the vikings despite matching up well schematically. They struggled vs the buccaneers. We've already seen it happen this year, I'm not inventing things here. They're obviously incredible at PA throws 15 yards downfield, but we saw what happened when they couldn't get the run going against Houston. All I'm saying is people are a little bit blinded by the bright lights and are not seeing the potential problems.
@trentowens6122Ай бұрын
Vs MIN Goff was 22/25 for 280 and 2tds. Gibbs went for 127 and 2tds. What on earth are you talking about? You're inventing things here.
