People want to say they over paid for Adams. They were wrong. Seattle wasn't just bidding for Adams, they were bidding to prevent him from going to the 49ers as well. The real loser were not even the Jets in that trade, but rather the 49ers, as they now have to face Adams twice a year and don't have him themselves.

The salary cap goes in cycles with different teams, depending on their stage of development both at different positions and as an overall team. Teams need to pay their own star players and that leaves less room for expensive free agents. Russell's contract kept the Seahawks from being able to afford some high priced free agents for many years. Perhaps they are managing their cap differently now and this enabled them to get Jamal.

Great work, Samuel, it's appreciated as always. In regards to the struggling corner play, noticed as well, Dunbar is really struggling going from Washington's man scheme last year to playing in zone, and trying to utilize the Hawk's kickstep technique. There was one play where Julio got him on an out route and his hips were wide open like he was having a baby, from the snap, like he was trying to still think through the proper footwork. Not high on this guy at the moment. Hope he can get better with it, or maybe they'll just let him run man again on his side.

@SamuelGoldNFL4 жыл бұрын
Feel like I'm going to get this comment a lot "They allowed 450 passing yards, how did he transform the defense." So here are some notes: 1. Defensive line was terrible at creating a four-man rush. The only times they created pressure were on scheme designed plays and blitzes. This doesn't help your secondary at all. 2. Other cornerbacks struggled HARDCORE in this game. Not a single secondary member played well... except for Adams. 3. Adams was amazing: Lead the team in tackles, lead the team in pressures, had two tackles for loss, was great in pass coverage. He and Bobby Wagner were the entire defense. 4. Without Adams, this secondary would have allowed A LOT more. Also, they were up 16 points entering the 4th quarter. They played Cover 4 which is where they allowed a lot of those yards (1/3). This could have been better, but it did the job of letting the clock wind down which is the point of C4. 5. Last thing: I made a mistake in thinking he was a free agent this summer. Thought he was already in his 5th year rookie deal; however, I still strongly think they should lock him up long term ASAP. Honestly think they should have done that along with the trade, and I really hope they can get a deal this summer since he has all the leverage.
@Nick73804 жыл бұрын
I'll agree with you but 450 yards is nothing if you can't make the plays that matter on top of going 0-4 on 4th down, I think this is why you always see the Falcons at the top of the league when it comes to passing yards because they're defense is garbage and they are always playing catch up. Shaq Griffin was awful, I don't know how he still allowed Julio to catch that one duck that got thrown in the air off a blitz from Adams. I think they'll get better with more playing time an build chemistry together even the LOB took awhile to develop.

I don't know that Griffin is the guy, I had a few doubts last season. He did make a few really nice plays last season but overall he just looked too "short" or something to cover well. He looked like that in this game, he was just never in position to make a good defensive play. I hope Dunbar plays better the rest of the season but 450 yards through the air against what I thought would be a MUCH improved secondary isn't going to work.
@aadengreen65834 жыл бұрын
well the way we play defense is prevent later in the game so we don’t give up a free touchdown and get close so they just chunked yards late in the game he would have had around 250 as he said we let up about 150 yards in the 4th alone. isnt the best but still not 400 yards

Well, the secondary outside of Jamal wasn't great against the Falcons, but those were the Falcons after all. I mean they have Julio, Calvin Ridley, Todd Gurley, Russell Gage, and people always tend to forget that Matt Ryan is still a great QB. So I am not that worried about the secondary this year. Jamal, Quandre Diggs and Shaq Griffin are all elite players and will only improve this season.

I don't see too much of an issue given its the first game against a very talented set of receivers and no pre-season. Atlanta was also playing from behind the vast majority of the game so they were really tossing in plays that even teams with 2 elite corners would have issues defending with Julio out there.
