Not only is all of Mysterio’s “evidence” completely inadmissible, but even if the EDITH program doesn’t keep logs of users and orders, which seems unlikely, there should be TONS of *counter* evidence proving Quentin Beck was a grifter and the real villain. For one thing, Quentin Beck, if that’s even his real name, was a former Stark employee, so Happy should’ve been able to pull up his employee file and show the world Beck was a hologram technician fired for being unstable, not an interdimensional soldier. For another, Flash Thomson was able to livestream the entire London attack, so there should be ample security footage showing the drones emerging from Mysterio’s weather monster. Not to mention that someone would’ve had to recover Mysterio’s body, and would’ve found that he wasn’t wearing the futuristic supersuit he was shown wearing in his dying video, but rather a suit covered in AR patches and hologram projectors.

My theory is that the Department of Damage Control is as much a PR firm for the Avengers/SHIELD as a literal clean up crew. Their job is to protect the public from the aftermath of major events, including the release of damaging information. SHIELD relies on its clandestine nature to operate under the radar. What better way to cover up your involvement in a major event than to work directly with and through the DoDC? Who else sent Murdoch? Either Murdoch works for SHIELD or he was hired by Stark to be the on-call superhero lawyer for superheroes. Either way, the arrest, the fake charges and even Murdoch’s [lack of actual] lawyering was just a show to avoid having to release information they (SHIELD and the DoDC) have that would be damaging to SHIELD, the Avengers and Stark but would exonerate Peter. A less cynical take might be that they were attempting to protect Peter from the fallout of releasing that he turned over the EDITH glasses to Beck but I think the murder accusation is probably worse.
@Tulin7302 жыл бұрын
I agree with much of this excerpt the government would never allow the information that they didn't properly vet Mysterio get out. The public would always believe he was from another universe even if they had to get a skrull to pretend to be this universe's beck. What I think is strange is Peter had many abilities including the use of drones, holograms,, and skrulls to "prove" he wasn't super-man. They can literally be in the same room or Spider-man could be anywhere in the world while Peter is in custody.

A few thoughts I had: 1) Even if you were to argue that Peter was breaking our vigilantism laws, which he may not have been, he pretty clearly wasn’t breaking the MCU’s vigilantism laws since they take that far less seriously and he is a recognised Avenger 2) If EDITH keeps a record of which user is logged in and give which orders that’s even more evidence to clear Peter 3) I don’t think that the DODC was acting as a part of some convoluted Stark cover up, especially because they do launch a major investigation into Stark Industries, it’s more likely in my opinion that with the rising number of superhero incidents and especially the signing of the Sokovia Accords there would need to be a government agency specifically for monitoring and regulating them and the DODC is the obvious choice for that because it’s already their area of expertise

Another thing to consider is that Spiderman is an Avenger, which also means he is susceptible to the Sokovia Accords. This means two things, 1) Aunt May is completely innocent and no charges can be filed against her considering that, as an Avenger, Peter’s actions are not controlled by May but rather the government, and 2) Peter himself is both protected and liable to the Sokovia Accords. Quinten Beck attacked London, and the Drones posed a serious threat to the safety and well being of the people there. Spiderman is there because Shield asked him to. Whether or not he wanted to save everyone there is now completely irrelevant as an organization/body of a government deployed him there. New York would not have the jurisdiction, or even the US government, can not charge him for completing the mission he was assigned to do (ie find the culprit behind the attacks and subdue him in any way, shape, or form) Edit (because y’all don’t understand): 1)Peter is an Avenger, plain and simple. Stark gave him his suit, he was there to fight Thanos and in the same movie, Tony says he’s an Avenger. 2) May is still innocent no matter what. Peter is not the average human and what could be “Harmful” to someone else, is not harmful to Peter. He can lift literal tons that would usually crush a person, and he has way more endurance. 3) “Peter is a minor and can’t legally sign contracts” would be true except Tony, Happy, and May are all guardians of Peter. “But they didn’t say that in the movie so they can’t be his legal guardians”! Says who? Both Happy and Tony look after him and make sure his well being is safe, Tony funds all of Peter’s tech, and he gave Peter Edith (ie entrusting him with Stark assets). You know, this video made me think, you remember how in Far From Home, "Quentin Beck" was just a front for a disgruntled ex-Stark employee? Well, when he made his appearance on Daily Bugle, it would only have been a matter of time for someone who knew his true identity to recognize him. As a matter of fact, I don't understand why Happy (from Stark) didn't recognize him. He was technically liable for identity theft. Could this also somehow invalidated his claims? 3:30 Okay, but like... Home Arrest could've actually been a great idea had the multiverse stuff not panned out. Peter is stuck at home, but a new villain is on the loose, and none of the other heroes seem able to lock them down. Peter does what he can from home, investigating online, and having Ned and MJ go out on his behalf. He catches a lead and has a chance to stop whatever villain, but he can't leave. I guess people would say they already did this in Ant-Man, but I still feel this would be unique enough. Somehow he has to stop the villain without there ever being any proof he broke further laws. All this interspersed with actual court scenes in between various action bits.

Edith was hook up to the start network, i find it hard to belive that they isnt a database how every command given to the glasses and by whom given it has voice recognition and access to ID databases. This should show that peter gave authority of the glasses to beck and the commands beck made made with said glasses, then peter cancel those commands after his defeat. Considering Pepper is the CEO of Stark Industries, I very easily believe that she orchestrated this coverup. Pepper signed the check Peter was holding in FFH so while they may not have a direct relationship (i.e via Happy) she may have wanted to keep S. So it makes sense to make a big thing about raiding for the drones, Iron spider suit etc so she could clean up the company reputation and dissociate herself from Peter.

Even if Jameson saw something that HE thought was illegal, even with his brief jurisdiction as mayor in the comics he would have to take it to the cops first. Even when Spider-Man webs up cars, he doesn't want people getting hurt so he's not doing anything except his job to *PROTECT* the public. Jameson is jealous of Spider-Man because he's everything Jameson isn't and as noted in the comics, is a bit pissed for overshadowing his son and making him look like the bad guy, except he was. Superheroes alone had certain qualities he didn't, so he saw them as public menaces despite having no proof of it. The heroes were doing their jobs, but Jameson saw it as them "being above the law" even though they weren't. TL;DR: Jealousy and envy fuels him, nothing else.

You are missing some things here. First, the video would drive the court to grant a warrant. They'd have found all the evidence that Peter is Spider-Man and he did have control of the drones. However, I agree that Matt would have had someone look at the recording to get it thrown out. Then any other evidence (Peter did fight Beck on the bridge so there is probably some stuff that could be used to tie him to Beck's death) could be dropped as circumstantial. My theory is that Matt pinned a bunch of stuff on Stark and Stark Industries. The Dept dropped their charges and changed the focus to Stark I, which could handle any investigation. The Department of Damage Control had changed their scope to dealing with/apprehending enhanced individuals. They are the guys who arrive at Happy's condo in NWH and start shooting Peter.

Aunt May in _this_ movie does not have a house. And it would also depend on when she got the house; it’s entirely possibly that the mortgage payments are cheaper than rent due to a lower purchase price.
@nateh11352 жыл бұрын
Well, in the original Maguire movies, the couple actually were extremely financially unstable; Ben was a 68 year old man who was unemployed and jobhunting after being laid off as a senior electrician after 35 years at an industrial plant; apparently, his pension wasn't enough for him to retire. Meanwhile, Aunt May was a housewife. Even though they owned a house, they were still paying a mortgage. I'm assuming they bought a house to raise Peter in after he was orphaned. On a senior electrician's salary in New York ($82,000), buying a house in Queens was definitely affordable back in 1992 (10 years before the movie) since prices on average were only $300,000 (inflation-adjusted) and the interest rates were relatively low (~3%) since the U.S. was trying to fight a recession. However, after Ben died, Aunt May struggled with keeping up with her mortgage payments. It is an entire subplot in Spider-Man 2, where Peter notices her foreclosure notice at his birthday party and argues with May over taking a $20 bill. It is also the reason they are at the bank when he fights with Doc Ock (they unfortunately did not get the toaster), and she ends up selling the house near the end of the movie where she gives the motivational speech. The original Spider-Man movies were never afraid to portray the Parkers as struggling working-class, salt-of-the-earth people. Meanwhile, the same financial instability is not really seen in the MCU version. The average apartment in Queens is around $3000 per month, and that large an apartment would definitely cost more. In fact, it is even possible that the Parkers from the Maguire movies were paying less in mortgage payments (around $2,000) and yet they still struggled. So, MatPat is completely right in saying Peter is actually pretty privileged in these movies.

People say he’s had it the easiest because it’s natural to relate to characters who have struggled the same as you. I’ve never had to lose 5 years of life from a snap or fight an alien titan like Tom, but I have had to live poor like Tobey.

How does no one bring up the fact that in far from home everyone can clearly see mysterio using holograms to create illusions of himself and different monsters. So everybody just forgot about that part and seems to trust that one video clip that he recorded 🤔. Not turning to the eye witnesses or the cameras around London, it seems weird to me. And not to mention if Tony stark made those glasses there surely must me a security camera option installed in those glasses or a history showing who used them and what they did. If the glasses doesn’t have cameras then I’m sure the drones have cameras. Not to mention that mysterio's video can easily be debunked by professionals. That’s my “theory” that everybody seems to overlook (wrote before watching the entire video)
@redd_rl2 жыл бұрын
the drones do have cameras (spoilers below) . . . . . . .. .. . as evident by the scene where mysterio is in the bridge and he notes that the drones are breaking formation, which he asks his scientist about and gets a response of "they probably hit a bird flock or something it'll be fine.", to which mysterio responds he's going to take a look himself, then pulls up one of the drone cameras on the wrist watch and looks inside as peter swings around and attaches all the webs, only for the camera to be hit with webs itself. also in another scene where happy, flash, MJ and ned enter a vault in a museum, you can see mysterio watching through the one drone chasing after them. so that's also more evidence of the drones containing cameras, now if they have any storage and recording options is unknown, but we know they have live feed cameras.

At the end of the movie I was like "what job does he have to be able to get his own apartment so soon? 🤨" Also I think the reason why MIT is what Peter Parker was so concerned about getting into is because school was the only place that he didn't have to feel like a superhero and is the same place his friends are going but yeah, his obsession with MIT was a bit much 😂

I think Beck's goal was to use the Stark tech to cause a bunch of damage and hurt Stark Industries overall. Because the drones were basically held liable for the damage and they mention that Stark Industries is in trouble. This could lead into Armor Wars as Stark Industries could get broken up or bought out by new characters

1:33 It really doesn’t matter how small or big someone is. Words hurt, and mental bullying is still bullying, and can negatively affect anyone. Flash shouldn’t be seen as less of a bully just because he can’t beat Peter up. In a lot of cases, verbal bullying is what does the most harm. Suicides, Cutting, PTSD, Trauma, all of it can easily be caused by words and words alone. As someone who’s life has been ruined by people purely using there words against me, and I’ve had to pick up the pieces, it feels a little wrong that your saying that Peters bully isn’t that bad.

Okay, but even if getting the charges dropped could’ve been as easy as NWH portrays it to be based on the evidence presented, you’d think Mysterio and/or his team would’ve worked harder at fortifying their case. Given all the work they put into pulling off their scheme in FFH, it doesn’t make sense that they’d stop at the video as far as manufacturing and tampering with evidence goes. Obviously, the real reason things played out the way they did was because they had to abandon most of what FFH set up ASAP in order shift gears into a multiverse story, but I digress.

That little nod to Wilson Fisk at the end just blew my mind. We already saw Kingpin in Hawkeye series and if Daredevil netflix shows are canon, that means Fisk could be or already infiltrating the DoDC. As we know in the netflix show, Kingping is able to manipulating the FBI even from a prison. DoDC would be easy for him to do it.

Daredevil said that even though the charges placed against Peter, and his friends and family wouldn’t stick, there was still the court of public opinion. Given how many people supported Mysterio and the Daily Bugle’s smear campaign against Spider-Man, couldn’t have Peter still have faced consequences?
@SethalaTheGamer2 жыл бұрын
The "court of public opinion" isn't an actual legal court, it's just a phrase meaning how a large group of people react based on what they think about you. He wouldn't face any legal consequences because of it (fines, sentencing, etc), but we do see several consequences from it; he has a rock thrown through his apartment window, he's forced to move to a new home to avoid an angry mob, he's getting swarmed at school, he's denied access into MIT... basically, everything that kicks off this movie's main plot is because of the "court of public opinion"

Wait a sec... if the Department of Damage Control has connections with Stark Industries, and they stepped up as the department prosecuting Peter, but also lost so easily... then you could say they were doing damage control *FOR* Spider-Man. Parker was up a creek with murder charges and being revealed as Spider-Man. They couldn't make the whole thing go away, but they *controlled* the *damage* as best they could. Wow! It's true about Tony. "Even Dead I'm The Hero" aka E.D.I.T.H.

I thought the movie one was different from the comic one and that the movie one was just that they had to fully answer to the government or cease all activities and since Spider-Man was team Ironman he was with the accords unlike the comic one where you had to register, reveal your identity which is did and then regretted it immediately leaving iron man’s team
