I feel like the whole concentrated dark matter theory behind Rick's portal gun and as the source of energy for interdimensional travel is just a ploy Rick uses to mask the actual source behind his creation. There was a part in S1E4 where when asked about him actually having the formula for concentrating dark matter he replies almost nonchalantly, and seemingly sarcastic, as if he doesn't actually have the formula and pretends to, in order to divert others attention from the actual source. But hey an argument could be made that he was just trying to lead on the Aliens in order to have them blow up their ship with the 'fake' formula. Just a theory i suppose.

Just some thoughts: So if it is wormholes, in mortynight run it is mentioned that “fart” cannons get through a portal due to the fact that he is gaseous. If this is the same as wormholes in the Rick and Morty universe then how come “fart” can get through the other wormhole later in the episode. Also wouldn’t you have to be in both places to create the wormholes? And how doe the history of the portal gun work if it creates wormholes, although this may just be the coordinates typed into the gun. Finally, when using a coordinate on the scale of multiple universes wouldn’t they have to be ludicrously precise to go, for example to Morty’s school or other places Rick goes; if you wanted to go to Morty’s school you would need to be within at least 500m of your desired location so when dealing on the scale of even only the observable universe which is on the scale of 10^26 m so your coordinates would have to have 24 digits. This is only for the observable universe which is a fraction of our single universe and is not to mention the other dimensions. Just some food for thought

Good point, however for wormholes to be created in both places we could say that they both intersect at the same place in space time + we actually know this as, if you fold a piece of paper and poke a pencil through it and say it's a wormhole the paper gets thicker like a corridor you have to travel down. However we can see peoples bodies being able to go straight through both sides of the wormhole therefore the portal operates in the same space, what is changing is the curvature of space time. + There's a theory about this in this video too kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWjZkoN6hb-Dfbc
