Bird Box as a book came out several years before A Silent Place was written. It definitely isn't a ripoff, but it makes sense that the timing of the movie being made could have been because of the success of A Quiet Place

The reason this concept of an unseen villain is so brilliant is that the people who watch the movie can fill in what they fear them most. The reason why characters like Master chief, Predator, or Ghostface are so popular and successful is because the audience can see what they think the monster or character looks like. This makes them popular because the audience either resonates with them or fears them.

Fun fact: In the next bird box movie they made. Our protagonist is one of the people who saw the monster. And everyone who's seen the monster keeps calling it an angel. Oh and when the protagonist opens there eyes, After they have died these gold things go up in the air. I suspect those are spirits. In all seriousness, there's a lot more religion in the next bird box movie than there is in this one

You mentioned the monster being like infinity, I have a similar but way different theory. There are two things the human brain can't comprehend, Infinity and Nothing. I also believe that the suicidal thoughts are caused by the brain not understanding what it see's. While Film Theory says that the monsters are a representation of infinity, I suspect the opposite, Nothing. The monster for one can't interact with the real world because it is "Nothing". Having nothing to use to interact with the real world. The Incarnation of "Nothing" also uses the voices of dead people, the dead are no longer here and therefore are "Nothing" in most scientific theories on what happens after death. I do not think it is a variation on a previous creature, but the human mind now trying to comprehend something not able to be seen until that point.( I'm not quite sure about how the brain can now see the monster. I suspect it is an evolution of the brain to start, but not be able to finish, comprehending it. This could also be the reason certain insane people are able to "see" the monster. Some crazy people see the world in their own way, so it would alter Nothing into something. One great example is the Joker movie, Where he imagines his own fantasy because he is insane. The reason the car's alarm would react is because something turned into nothing and it changed something that would indeed set off an alarm. a similar thing for how it casts a shadow, the air gets moved and there is no longer something that the sun can transfer light through. The birds in this movie act as a warning for when something bad is about to happen, they can chirp out to warn others. The birds would most likely feel "Nothing" ( some sort of coldness or darkness, but most likely something we never felt before) and would react. That is my personal theory. It probably isn't the whole story, I couldn't really check every possibility because this is not my job. This was just something I thought about after the fact. Also thanks to @shadowless454, I had no idea why the birds chirped until I read your comment.

I was thinking that the monster was actually death personified. Like not singular, more like grim reapers of all types from across the world. That would help explain why they can’t open doors, why they are described as beautiful and not too bad once they see them, and why the drawings are so varied. They’re seeing different regions of the grim reaper. It explains the ability to change their voices to dead and living loved ones. The only thing it doesn’t explain is why the insane aren’t affected.

What makes sense to me is that its ability to mimic loved ones and such might not be intentional to the monsters. It might just be a part of it that it unintentionally uses to capture souls, like how we use food in traps.

I just read the books, they are amazing. All we get to know about the creatures is that they are not violent, creature is not the right term for them, they make some weird quiet sounds like steps, they have a sense of gathering around specific places, they can climb to the roofs of houses, they can not be "trapped" or "captured" as a creature, they somehow multiply because it's said they have likely tripled 17 years after the first event. Also, in the second boom called Malorie, spoilers ahead, it is discovered a way to see again and live normally, everyone can see again and live normally while using a two way mirror, but the "creatures" never go away.

I think in my opinion that Charlie was right about it being the demons/spirit that takes the form of youre greatest lost or fear because in that one scene we see a girl see the bird box monster and she said “mom” which was later revealed by the guy that her mom was dead. Not just that but the bird box monster can also sound like our loved ones which the bird box monster used to try to trick Malorie and the two kids to remove there blindfolds. Also I think there are a lot of monsters and not only one monster and they are also different monsters due to the different reactions of people, I also think that these monsters have different abilities like the one where it can mimick voices while others couldn’t.

I have a question about the theory, Mat Pat said that "The dead in Christ shall rise first", and he uses that for people in birdbox hearing the dead. However, at 12:49 of the video he also says that the entity mimics the voice of Mallory who is the protagonist to get her kids to remove their blindfolds. Matthew 24:21 For at that time there will be great tribulation, unmatched from the beginning of the world until now, and never to be seen again.

I was under the impression it was some sort of eldritch being/s due to the fact that according to most lore about the old ones, just seeing them caused your brain to basically go haywire and either make you self harm, hurt others or just go utterly bonkers. Which tracks, especially if you consider the only people that don't just go crazy already ARE crazy. Another possibility could be a biblically accurate angels. They are described as unable to be conseptualized by humans but it would make sense that the disturbed would be able to handle it and would also make sense for the worshiping part. There is one angel that keeps count of all the humans on earth, a mouth and tongue sucking out for every person alive on earth, which would account for the tentacle-like appearance we see in the drawings. It is infinatly changing so it fits the theme of infinity. A sane person looking at it would make a them go insane. Edit: I want to add that they would also account for the phenomenon of this happening all over the world, there are many angels that can take form and mimic any person. (I havnt studied the bible so I don't know if this is completely accurate but the movie could be inspired by biblically accurate angels)

One thing about these creatures (versus A Quiet Place) I like, is that you have a better chance of survival. Its so hard to not make any sound. If you do, some terrifying creature will literally eat you or chop you to bits. At least in this story, they only need to be blind folded outside. As long as you cover the windows, you are "safe"/safer.

I feel like when people say angels don't actually look like the pictures, i think they do, or at least somewhat close. If the angels looked like what people say they look like everyone who would have seen them in the bible (ex. mary, the shepherds) would have fainted when they saw them, which they didn't, they were just merely shocked and slightly afraid and i would be too if i saw a floating human with wings. Definitely want to research the significance behind the biggest parts of the movie. Birds. I wonder if birds have any religious or cultural significance in a rapture/protection situation. I think they're Angel's. In birdbox Barcelona, there's a short 2 second scene of people looking up at a shadow of a creature with 4 wings. Also during a scene in the church, there is a a moving angel the man looks at. But this is just the Barcelona. In the original, like he said, it could be demons. I know this video is old, but still. I'd like to propose a different theory. What if instead of the monster being the Great Old One Cthulhu, it's a different elder being from the same mythos, Nyarlathotep. Let's not disregard the other drawings of the creature that were shown. Nyarlathotep is shown as a shapeshifter, so what if the monster was constantly changing? That would explain the different drawings. It would also explain why the monster seems to chase humans. Cthulhu and other higher beings have no regard for humans, as we are below them. However, Nyarlathotep is different in the regard that he takes interest in human beings. But that's just a theory... A COMMENT THEORY! Thanks for reading.. Edit: Wow guys, thanks for the Reddit gold! From what you've said here, I think this comment is underappreciated. Although I've not read or learned anything regarding about H. P. Lovecraft and its lore before or after watching this video, it explains everything. Although when thinking about it after writing the first part of this comment, the only thing it doesn't explain is the voice mimicking of alive and dead people and how could it take the form of humans that other people seem to recognize, but it has never seen itself (both probably explained in the H. P. Lovecraft lore I'm assuming if this is the monster). Unless if Nyarlathotep can mimic the voice of people it has never heard and look like people it has (most likely) never seen, then this isn't the monster. But I will admit, it was a good theory that goes with what MatPat was looking into (after explaining away the other mythical creatures.
