With no door of her own with her face on it, she has no gift. It’s a huge stretch to assume that she has a gift(which is never mentioned or confirmed) without her having a door and a room of her own. The writers just messed up and wanted to really hammer home the feeling of “I’m not special when my family is” and should have simply given her a gift that is abstract and that she struggles to discover. Her having a “dud” gift would work much better for the resolution of the movie and would make her helping Bruno learn to use his gift for good be even more relevant.
@hossam90532 жыл бұрын
@@evanstephens2203 well technically no one said she has a magical gift like the rest of the family, just said she’s pretty much the new abuela. Abuela doesn’t have a gift either, but she protects and controls the casita, and so does mirabel, so pretty much I’d say mirabel didn’t get a gift so she would become the new successor, you can even see her standing in the middle infront of everyone else on the casita’s new door in the end of the movie, symbolizing that she’s the new protector
@irishpolyglot2 жыл бұрын
Love the theory, as always! But one minor correction; casita is feminine because casa is feminine. "Casito" would be something completely different (little case), from "caso". In Spanish, you refer to the gender of the object, rather than implied human gender. For instance, "mi amor" or "el amor de mi vida" is masculine, but can be used just as easily to refer to a female. It would never be *la amor de mi vida, so it similarly would never be *el casita, even if the theory of the casita being the soul of the abuelo were true.

@irishpolyglot2 жыл бұрын
@@SubXero1000 Not necessarily "small"; it's called a "diminutive" and can imply a sense of affection too. The "casita" clearly wasn't small! In English, the best equivalent we have is actually something we use in Ireland (where I'm from); "wee" (because the Irish language also has -ín as a suffix for diminutive, like Spanish does, so we are kind of translating from Irish when we do this), which is a completely separate concept to "small", even if often wee things do often tend to be small. So, if Encanto took place in Ireland instead of Colombia, la casita would be "the wee house" 💪😁.
@Lunrbatzz2 жыл бұрын
I’ve always thought this!! Especially considering how her door disappeared. It almost seems like it fades INTO Casita. Like it becomes one with it, symbolizing that her gift has something to do with her connection to the house and therefore, the magic. This is only proven more when, at the end of the movie, she puts the doorknob in, and indirectly gets a door. Her “room” is the house, because her gift is directly connected to Casita. Not to mention the details on the front door (which would have details about said door owner’s gift) now have all of the family members on it, in fairness, it could be interpreted as just who lives in the house, but I think it could be to do with the fact that Mirabel’s gift is the guardian for the miracle itself.

Mirabel also symbolizes the new style of leading the future generations. Abuela symbolizes the old leadership, controlling, protective but very organized and responsible. This is also reflected on her role and image to the town. Mirabel, as the new leader of the house and the town, will change it. She’s more fun, better at accepting new ideas and possibilities, likes to spend time with the kids, but might not be reliable because she cares about what people feel more than their responsibilities. I think the movie also tried to show us the leadership style differences from the older generations to the newer ones.

There was a video by Howard Ho that talks about how in the song “we don’t talk about Bruno” really captures the musical genius behind the song but also how Mirabel is like a musical director. Imagine an orchestra. Every single member has a musical gift that everyone sees and hears but it’s the director has arguably the most important role in the orchestra. While no one sees or hears them, their job is crucial to keep everyone in order just as abuela and mirabel are doing

Adding onto this: we learn in the movie that Casita can't be controlled inside of the magical rooms. Mirabel is connected to Casita, but if she had a magic room she wouldn't have spent as much time with Casita.
@awesley17252 жыл бұрын
Actually it was mentioned in a post that casita can control the insides of rooms its just that bruno's room had fell into such a state because he stopped using his gift and so any magic in it was cut off from the rest of the house. The deleted scene seems to further support this because we are told after Bruno left his room got all "gross and creepy"
@NeoisiBunsterCh2 жыл бұрын
I think the same. Not much because Casita cant be controlled inside of the magical rooms, but because every Madrigal relies so much on the magic they inherited. You can see it when Luisa lost her gift she literally couldn't and wouldn't do anything, and when they tried to rescue the candle, Isabella and Camilo used their power to try to catch it (Not knowing what to do when they lost their powers in the middle of that act). But Mirabel's only magic she can rely on is the magic of casita. I feel is her way to feel part of the Madrigal family.

Another detail I noticed was that Mirabel affected the gifts of her sisters: Luisa started losing her gift faster than everyone else did because Mirabel thought she was carrying too much after "Surface Pressure". But then during "What Else Can I Do?", when Mirabel is actively encouraging Isabela and hyping her up, Isabela's power grows so much that it extends all the way into town from Casita's rooftops. Yess the house was getting cracks because of the family relationships, so I guess each crack weakens the powers, what is weird is why her older sister was the first one getting affected
@derekjoyce61522 жыл бұрын
I interpreted this differently. I think that everyone's power is actually based on their confidence and their perception of power. Luisa's door and her strength differed based on her level of confidence, Camilo's shape-shifting was more or less in control based on his feelings of control and certainty of others, and Isabella's control of plants was restricted as she restricted her assertiveness. But this just goes to show that we all have our own interpretations of the movie and that may be the point. I think that the magic is better because we don't have a full understanding of it.
@Coolkid998802 жыл бұрын
I always had the idea that mirabel’s gift some how controles the others gifts and the house, basically she controlled the magic. My argument for this is that most of the significant things in the movie happen after something effects mirabel herself. First the house started to crack after they took a picture without mirabel in it, which could be mirabel starting to feel like she’s disconnected from her family. Secondly the gifts started going haywire after mirabel does something: Luisa told mirabel that she’s over worked and needs a break so mirabel may have thought that without a gift Luisa would be happier and that’s when Luisa’s gift starts to fade, after mirabel talked to her: another is when mirabel realized that Isabella wasn’t perfect during the fight and in realizing this Isabella makes a cactus (something that’s not perfect): and not to forget that the only time Bruno is known to have made a good Prophecy is when mirabel told him to (I know Isabella’s is good but she may have thought that she would be perfect forever because of abuela even if that’s not what Bruno meant). Finally I think that the house knew when the candle would fade and decided to transfer the magic into mirabel because of the doors; all of the doors show the ages of the people right as the house was gonna fall and the candle will burn out, the triplets in middle age, Luisa, dolores, and Isabella as young adults, Camilo as a teen, and we’ll I think you get my point. So yes I do believe mirabel’s gift is quite literally being the miracle itself but I also think she has the power to control it ( even if it’s subconsciously).

5:37 As someone who speaks Spanish as their main language, I can say that nobody says Casito (unless they are crazy) as Casita is just the diminutive of Casa (House). Literally speaking, Casita would just mean small house, but we usually use it to either refer to a dollhouse or to refer to it being cute. Many times when we add to words ito/ita (like in Cas-ita) it's just to refer to something on a cutely manner. So yeah, this point honestly doesn't really matter.

Also: Did anyone notice how the gifts reflected Alma's needs? I think casita chose the gifts for the family member based on what Alma needs at the time. Her children got the gifts of weather manipulation, clairvoyance and healing, because at the time Alma had lost her husband and her home. So casita gave Pepa weather powers to help grow food for the community, Julietta got healing so that Alma would never lose someone again, and Bruno got the power of foresight to warn them of any dangers. In the next generation most gifts seems to be flashier than their mothers. Dolores helps Alma get information about the village just like she does in the movie. Camillo and Louisa's gifts are to remind the village how powerful and helpful they are. While Isabella perfect candidate for the Madrigals to gain more influence in the village just like mentioned in the movie. When Mirabel received her 'gift' as the next keeper, that was because that was the only thing missing at the time to sure the legacy of the Madrigals. When Mirabel didn't receive any powers, Alma was so desperate that all she needed was a gift for Antonio. Literally any gift would do, so casita gave him something within his interest, animals.

Adding onto this! While I loved the first part (Pepa’s weather conditioning for crops, Bruno’s foresight for danger, Juliettas healing capabilities), those were all gifts that are connected with themes of immediate survival. Their children’s gifts should, then, make and shape the community: Isabellas (plant) ability to make the grounds actually fertile, Lousia’s building gift, I’m not sure for Dolores but perhaps an add on to Bruno’s absence for looking out for danger (but you can tell the gifts get less focused on survival, she can’t see the freakin future, she just has painful ears D: ) (also Dolores was the only one who knew Bruno was in the house, so she has that odd connection to him) Camillo’s shapeshifting to either mark change/ or just representing the people in their community, and Antonio to represent the animals. So basically: The first generation was with immediate survival, the second to cultivate their community and make it thrive. It’s Mirabel’s job to take the mantle from Abuela for the generations coming afterwards :)

As a Spanish speaker, I can confirm that the word “casito” doesn’t exist when referring to a house. EDIT: actually the art book said the door grows with the character so my "theory" was confirmed but I realized there was a scene that showed everyone took a picture with their door when they first received their gift as a child and the door was their adult self which doesn't align with what the art book says.

Fresh take: the magic isn't in the doors, it's in the door handles. The interaction between the door handle and the Madrigal generates the magic room, with the door being generated as part of that process. Thus, at the end, a regular door becomes a magic door when Mirabel's door handle is inserted.
@ginger91722 жыл бұрын

It's really sad that one member of the family just disappears and they don't search for him and refuse to talk about him. And he watches them thru the walls because he knows he will never belong. And then sing a whole song about him that he can probably hear and we see him in the background of. Poor Bruno was also always different because he was the only boy of the triplets and he got a weird room and then the family hates him. Poor Bruno!!! :(

I don't know if this will make it better or worse, but in my experience (I'm Colombian, btw) family is everything, and the number one rule about family is that you can't turn your back to it. When Bruno disappeared it makes it seem from everyone else's perspective that he abandoned his family, that he turned their back to them. In our culture, this is unforgivable and it makes sense why they would refuse to talk about them. I don't think this is okay in any sense, and I understand it kind of seems backwards, but hopefully I was able to shed some light, maybe provide a different perspective?

That actually happens more often than you imagine, and it has to do with why the person disappears and what do you think happened to them. When the Madrigals say "We don't talk about Bruno" I think what they are actually saying is "We don't talk about what happened to Bruno that caused him to leave, and we do not what to think about where he is, the possibility that he is dead, or that he is choosing not to return". They do think about Bruno quite a lot, but I think that they prefer to focus on happier memories of Bruno in the past.

Actually, I think “Dos oruguitas” is about Pedro and Alma, as someone mentioned, but also, this song is about growth. About learning to come apart but also growing and moving forward. This correlates to the fact that Alma “held on too tight, so afraid she’d lose everyone too.” Which is why it plays in the moment Alma lost Pedro and at the end, where she learns to not hold onto the past. I still agree Mirabel’s gift is keeping the family together, but I just wanted to point it out since the Spanish lyrics convey this :]
@val3kyria2 жыл бұрын
I agree, mostly because the first line says the two oruguitas are in love :)
@RussGussDoodles2 жыл бұрын
The first verse is definitely all about Pedro and Alma but the second verse that plays after we see Pedro’s sacrifice seems to be about Mirable and Alma. It begins with, “Dos Oruguitas, cocooned and waiting, each in their own world, anticipating what happens after the rearranging.” This doesn’t sound like Pedro and Alma, if it was why would they be in their own worlds? Instead it’s more likely referring to Mirabel and Alma with their different views of the family(own worlds) and how they are both holding on too their own pasts (the cocoon).

The FIRST HALF of the song talks about abuela Alma and abuelo Pedro being the caterpillars HOWEVER the SECOND HALF of the song is about Abuela and mirabelle, the switch happens in this line: Two "disoriented" caterpillars In two cocoons, well sheltered With new dreams All you have to do is what is necessary The first half describes the caterpillars being "little" while the second being "disoriented". Both Alma and Mirabelle are disoriented, both of them were suffering all alone, abuela was alone loosing pedro and mirabelle was all alone never having a gift. The FIRST HALF of the song is about abuela alma reminiscing about her relationship with pedro, there was a line in the first half of the song that translates to "two caterpillars in love with each other" HOWEVER the second half of the song is no longer about pedro but mirabelle since the focus of the SECOND HALF of the song was no longer about abuela reminiscing about pedro BUT mirabelle RECONCILING with abuela alma The Second half is about Mirabelle CHANGING with Abuela Alma. To change from "disoriented" caterpillars into butterflies.
@-B4sh-2 жыл бұрын
the lyrics is all about the TWO caterpillars BECOMING butterflies. Pedro is no longer there to become that butterfly MIRABELLE is clearly the caterpillar that is being referenced in the second half of the song because i dont know if youve noticed but after Mirabelle reconciles with Abuela THE SONG CONTINUES and instead of "ay oruguitas" it becomes "ay MARIPOSAS" butterflies. The fact that we change from caterpillar to butterfly AFTER MIRABELLE RECONCILES WITH ABUELA is literally the movie telling that BOTH Abuela and Mirabelle changed. TWO CATERPILLARS CHANGING TO BECOME BUTTERFLIES thats what the song is about and pedro is no longer there to be one of that caterpillar. The song isnt just about Alma and Pedro BUT ALSO Abuela Alma and Mirabelle.

@zoiembrown2 жыл бұрын
no, I don't believe the designs on the doors change at all once they're made; you can find clearer images of each family member (excluding Antonio) standing beside the door when they receive their gift and their doors have always depicted them as adults, so the designs don't change over time. I just don't think any of the family members realized that Antonio's door was different in that way bc they were all worried whether he would receive a gift at all, and then they just never questioned it

Love this theory. I figured her gift would be to inherit the status of the family matriarch. Something else that supports this theory is in Bruno's vision it shows the house broken and fixed. They assumed that she could choose, but by the end of the movie. She has done both. Destroying the old home and creating a new one foundation and all. And the family giving her the doorknob is proof that they accept her position as leader of the household.

@kevinnature2 жыл бұрын
My theory was a little simpler, the family misinterpreted what happened on her first day, I believe she got a gift when she touched her door, it's a passive skill that manifested, she gained the power to take the gift if the family was no longer worthy of it and the manifestation was her literally taking her door away. The gift manifested because of the love and desire to protect the family so the gift was testing the family. The more Mirabel was cut out of the family for not being special, the more the wish was consumed by her, that's why the weakness of the wish was so intense at the newest members awakening, when they didn't include her in the picture(that's the reason they put so much work into that scene). This kept escalating till the wish was completely consumed by Mirabel and was only released after abuela realized the error of her ways. Only once the focus was on the members of the family and not what they could do, were they worthy of the miracle again
@entername3432 жыл бұрын
I also have a feeling that every few generations, someone is going to be born with "no miracle" and their miracle will actually be to be the new person to carry on the family. Because Abuela is getting older, she will eventually die and Mirabel will take on for her. Eventually, someone will be born with no miracle when Mirabel is older and they will carry on the torch.

there's a detail you've forgot to mention that supports this theory too, Every Madrigal gets a room that is designed to give them a space in which they can let their gifts grow, Isabella gets a room full of flowers, Bruno has a tower full of sand, which he needs for his gift, and Antonio gets a room fit for a lot of animal roommates. We've seen from the scene in which Mirabel is in Bruno's room that casita can't interact with the magical rooms. (You could argue that this is because the door no longer glows however the rest of the magic making the room possible still works so I doubt that that's the case) So Mirabel actually lives in the one room Casita, the embodiment/physical manifestation of the Miracle, can interact with. This could be seen to imply that Mirabel's gift is Casita or in other words, the gift itself.

Interesting. When I saw the movie, I knew before the end of it what Mirabel's power was, not because of all the details you pointed out, but because of one you seemed to have missed. The thing I noticed was that the house was responding to Mirabel's own state. When she was happy and fine, so was the Casita, but the moment she began feeling doubt, insecurity, hurt... like she didn't belong, the cracks started to show... it was like the house was mirroring her and so of course the cracks were gone when everyone rushes back because Mirabel wasn't dwelling on her own problems anymore. She was so overwhelmed with concern for the home and what it meant for the family that when everyone was there, everything was fine again. The fact that the cracks Bruno was fixing were under the surface, mirrors the fact that Mirabel has spent her entire life HIDING the hurt and struggle she's had with not having a gift that is like the rest of her family. So of course, by the time the climax comes with the big fight between Abuela and Mirabel, the house then falls apart... because she's broken and has finally exposed that brokenness to her family with such force that it snuffs out the candle and the house gives one last ditch effort to protect her even as it crumbles down around her. She never had a door because she had the entire home as her "door" the entire time and just didn't realize it as she was so wrapped up in what did happen that she and everyone else didn't realize what was actually going on. That, as you said, the role of keeper of the magic, was being passed down. Anyway, that's my 2 cents on this. Can't wait to see some more vids from you! I feel like the biggest clue that points to miracle having a power is quite literally how the house falls apart when she’s stressed. Another thing I noticed in the movie about Mirabel’s clothes: she has pink, green, yellow and (majority) blue, which represent Alma, Bruno, Pepa and Juilietta, respectively. Everyone else has their “family-branch colour” except Mirabel, who has everyone’s. In the end, the difference between Alma and Mirabel was the source of their love/protectiveness for the family: Alma’s was borne of trauma and a need for safety, defence, self-sufficiency; Mirabel’s was through a conduit of growth, empathy, and teamwork. My favourite Easter-egg from the movie is Mirabel’s “Waiting on a Miracle” where she then goes on to: move the mountains (by splitting them), make new trees and flowers bloom/grow (inspiring Isabella), heal what’s broken (the family itself), and show the family something new (brings out previously unknown family traits-see Isabella-and almost singlehandedly saves a miracle that had never given her the door she longed for). Mirabel was really out here like a beat cop in a super hero movie, only to save the super heroes from themselves with love and compassion despite the terrible pay.

@ricremricrem22212 жыл бұрын
To add to your second point, the front door has been reset completely which in my opinion is the most obvious reset of the doors. It depicts the hole family but now it has Mirabel in the fore front symbolizing both her taking over the leader ship of the family as well as her room/gift. Essentially she gets the whole house as her room and her gift was to family more accurately how to properly lead and take care of her family. Side note I realized while writing this that the reason the fracture between Abuela and Mirabel broke the house and miracle apart was because the two leaders had conflicting ideologies and wanted to take the family and miracle in two different directions and what brings the house back together is the fact that they both now have the same direction in mind.

I usually like all your theories but I believe you are way off with this one. I had this theory as a bit of a stretch but made sense to me back when I first watched the movie. The source of all the magic is the grandfather Pedro. The theory states that he has the gift of magic and so the soldiers were actually looking for him, so he made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his family. His magic went into the candle with his last thought of keeping his family safe. This made the Encanto and gave his family his different powers. Which all relied on the candle, where his magic was stored for them to work. Now the reason why Mirabel didn't get any powers is because she didn't need them, the candle saw that she didn't need the protection of a gift. Because like his grandfather, she has magic. The grandmother demanded a lot from her family which over time made the family "unsafe" due to the protection imbued in the candle being not only from physical danger but mental as well. So the magic starts failing. Towards the end of the movie the candle loses its power completely and so everyone is without their gifts. After the touching moment between Mirabel and the Grandma, once can see the magic moving around them. But it is in fact the magic coming from Mirabel, having finally been accepted by her grandma for who she is. When they rebuild the house and Mirabel puts in the doorknob, she unkowingly becomes the source of the magic. Taking her Grandpa's place as the "source". I believe that if a second movie is made, it would be about a brother from the grandpa, who sensed Mirabel's magic awaken and teaches her how to use her gifts. BUT HEY THAT'S JUST A THEORY A FIIIILM THEORY!

About them calling the house "Casita", whenever you add "ita" or "ito" to a word, it means that that thing is small or little. So casita means "little house" since you're adding "ita" to "casa". And whether you add "ita" or "ito" is dependent on whether the word you're adding that to is masculine or feminine. For example, if you wanted to say "little cat", it would be "gatito" since the word for cat in spanish is "gato". The word gato is masculine, so it gains an "ito". Casa is feminine, so it's casita!

Yes! Spanish is a language whose Nouns have genders and a noun cannot have both genders at the same time. A synonym of a feminine noun might be masculine and vice-versa, but that has no bearing on the original word's gender - and for 'house', you really wouldn't use a synonym so grammar cannot be used to discredit the theory.
@daddydevito71752 жыл бұрын
yes! but the word “casito” doesn’t exist in spanish, if you want to say little house you can only say casita. the same thing with “casa”, the word “caso” in Spanish means something else, not “male house”, this is because in spanish words have certain gender, you say “la casa”, “la casita” , “linda casa” etc. you can change the gender of a word when you are talking about people or animals (gatito/gatita, el/ella, doctor/doctora), but you can’t do that when you talk about objects, because it wouldn’t be grammatically correct. so i think that the fact that casita ends with an a and it’s a “feminine?” word doesn’t mean that casita HAS to be female :) english is not my first language, so im sorry if i wrote something wrong or if this is hard to understand
@pepethunder2 жыл бұрын
@@daddydevito7175 the “ita” and “ito” shouldn’t even be part of the discussion. That is just referring to the size of the thing (also a way of showing affection for someone/something). The word we should be discussing is “casa”. If you were to gender it male and say “caso”, you already changed the entire meaning of the word because Casa and Caso are two diferent things. “House” and “case”. Saying “casito” means you have a bit of a situation in your hands. “Estoy trabajando un casito” means “Im dealing with a bit of a situation”. Words are gendered in Spanish simply because of how the noun itself sounds. Otherwise you sound very off when speaking. Its not even about things being gendered. Its all about going with the flow of the sentence you are saying. If the noun is female the rest of the sentence must be female. Im sure there are some exceptions but thats the gist of it.

I believe that Mirables gift was truly given during her solo son "waiting on a miracle" where she then proceeds to set in stone the things she is going to cause to happen. "I would move the mountains" she split a mountain in half "I would make new flowers grow" she help Isabella create new types of flowers. "I would heal what's broken" she championed the rebuild of the house. All that happened, was the miracle giving Mirables her gift This also explains why Bruno's vision is not defined because his powers are predicting the future that is planned and the new future which the giving of the gift to Mirables gives.
@nohemigomez93382 жыл бұрын
The gifts are correlated to needs at first. Abuela wished she could’ve foresaw the malitia, yearned to save her husband so one of her daughters heals with food, and the other protects with the weather. Her grandkids on the other hand manifested gifts reflecting their love and passion. Therefore, Mirabels love and passion was towards her family. Resulting in her gift being one that enhances everyone’s gifts or taking them away.

Correction about the “Casita” and “Casito” thing: Normally when we put an “ito” or “ita” at the end of a word, it’s a way to make it diminutive, a way to make it sound cuter, smaller and/or **more loving**, and the *a* or *o* at the end makes a huge difference and can turn a word into a completely different word. “Casita” makes sense, regardless the spirit that supposedly would posses it being masculine or feminine, and of course it’s a loving way to say house. In the other hand, we have “casito” which isn’t the masculine for house, because that’s not hot it works for us in Spanish. “Casito” would instead mean “almost” in a cute or diminutive manner, as explained earlier, and people mostly use it with kids in a more loving way. That’s why, amigos, it’s so important to watch out for feminine or masculine words in Spanish, because it changes a lot.

Apparently a lot of the elements, such as it being a story about family, a magical home, and yellow butterflies, come from that book. Mythos crafting is weird like this, but the "Spirit of the Home" ESPECIALLY in Latin cultures and perhaps in virtually all cultures is always feminine. Indeed it is an extension of the WOMAN who maintains it which would be why "casa" is feminine. This is a magic house and so even more so powerful is the connection.... And then the connection must change hands. This idea of the "spirit of the house" being the magic power that Mirabel received made perfect sense when I watched the film, but it then also makes sense that it would take time for her to... In an interview one of the creators of Encanto said that the candle is a symbol of Abuela's unconditional love for her family. It wavers when Mirabel doesn't get a gift because of how upset Abuela was in the moment causing her love to also waver. It only goes out entirely when Abuela realizes that she had, in fact, been putting conditions on her love for her family without realizing it for years. This is also evidence that the magic moved on to Mirabel because she DID love her family unconditionally even when they weren't on the best terms.

This is a fun theory. My guess was that Mirabel's gift was empathy. However empathy isn't something that can be given, it has to be learned. At the end she's learned how to be empathetic, which is why the house then gives her a door, so to speak, in the entrance. Which may have also been her right of passage to take her place as the new keeper of the house. Which you could also say she didn't get a door since it wasn't time for her to take on the role of guardian, since abuela was still around. However when the house broke, it needed a new guardian and yatta yatta, Mirabel is the new guardian.

@jadabower6742 жыл бұрын
I think it's intentional and perfect that Mirabel would stay in the Nursery: First of all, I think her door is the front door (with her in the center of it and the magic comes to the house when she puts her doorknob in, just like how it works for all of the other doors) and so would have no specific room in the house to stay in as the whole thing is her room. Secondly, Mirabel is what brings youth and joy to the family (as you said, when Antonio gets his door as the first person after the mantle is passed on to Mirabel, his door shows him as a KID). Lastly, I think it's good that Mirabel is there to kind of bring up and care for the kids in their first years, as that's kind of what her whole role is: to bring the family together and care for them. Great episode :)

When you think about it…if they knew about her gift, then Abuela would have been twice as hard on her in comparison to everyone else, because it was the only gift that she was going to replace her. She’d nag her about how to do her job right out of fear that she may do something wrong and put them all in danger. And the other gifted children would never know how they’d likely be treated if they didn’t have their powers. They wouldn’t have had that “awakening” So I think Casita didn’t give her a door for this reason.

My theory: If you can see, the doorknob of Mirabel’s door had “M” on it. When Antonio gave her a doorknob at the end it also had an “M” on it. So I’m guessing that when Mirabel touched the doorknob some problem happened and the magic didn’t go into the door and just went into the doorknob. They kept the doorknob for a very long time and finally took it out. It was the doorknob Antonio gave to Mirabel. Mirabel then puts the doorknob in to the house’s door and everyone got their gift back. As you know, the candle already went out and it can’t generate any magic anymore. The magic in the house now is Mirabel’s. Mirabel’s magic is controlling the whole house.

That thing about Antonio having a door with his image as a kid on it could also be because, since because of Alma, right after their gift cerimonies, the 5-year-olds receiving the powers were pushed so hard and pressured so much that they had to become adults. Playtime was over, they had to work for the community. Thanks to Mirabel, instead, Antonio's life was different and he got to still be a kid, that's why he had a different door. I think this could make sense too.

I think Matt is just reading too much into it. The doors would, I assume, change throughout time with the kids, showing them as they grow up. If you look at 6:19 when the kids get their doors, we don't actually see the images on them when they are kids. As the camera pulls out, we do a time skip, showing the triplets grown up, and THAT is when we finally get an image on their doors. The same thing happens for the grandchildren. And that just makes sense from a film-making perspective; why would you pay the animators for all the extra man hours it would take to to show a different image on the door for what translates to a FRACTION of a second in the finished movie? It's just a cost-cutting technique of the type that animation does a lot.

But the song goes “Dos Oruguitas, enamoradas,” meaning “two caterpillars in love.” Considering this song plays during the flashback showing Abuela with her future husband, the assumption would be that it refers to them rather then her and Mirabel. Sure, other parts of the song makes sense, but that line is pretty important considering it’s what the song leads with, so I’d appreciate an explanation of that.
@emmab32752 жыл бұрын
I think that, while the song by itself is telling one story, in the movie it tells a different one. As LMM said, he wanted it to sound like a folk song that could have always existed. So while there are just the two caterpillars in the song, there are three in the movie. First Alma & Pedro, but once he dies, he's not in a "cocoon." There's no transformation waiting for him. So at that point it's talking about Alma & Mirabel.
@TRainbowPitt2 жыл бұрын
So I believe that the explanation is still the same. It just don't involve Maribel. The song is basically about how Abuela needs to accept what happened, acknowledge her mistakes and move forward changing in to her better self. And that is also what happens after the flashback in the end of the movie
@StarryEyed05902 жыл бұрын
@@emmab3275 Death CAN be seen as a transformation. If you buy the theory that Casita is the spirit of Abuelo Pedro, the lyrics actually fit quite well - Alma and Pedro are separated by a traumatic transformation, and then reunited, by their their miracle. My theory is that Mirabel’s gift is actually the entire house as it seems to communicate and respond to her quite differently than everyone else. The reason she didn’t get a door is simply because she doesn’t need her own room if the house is her gift. The entire house is technically Mirabel’s room.

Mat! While I agree with most of your theory, and as a Colombian that loved this movie, I may bring a big BUT to this theory (besides "casita" already aforementioned): Camilo's door depicts him as a teenager, so that part doesn't fit and maybe doors age as their owners do. On the other hand, the fact that Mirabel and Alma's rooms are just normal rooms (besides the door) I thinks is more solid proof. Mirabel doesn't get a door because she doesn't need one: she own's the whole house and all it's rooms.

For someone who’s watching this movie, I have a burning question. Even though we have no evidence to really solve it, it still seems like a good question to ask. “When Mirabel and Antonio were having a moment and Mirabel gave Antonio a plush, she said ‘I know you’re an animal guy’ which begs the question…what kind of kids were the other Madrigals like to gain their specific gift?” Luisa must’ve been a strong child to get the gift of strength, and Dolores must’ve been a snitch or something to gain hers. (That’s sorta a joke but I hope you get it.)
@cosmicstingray77902 жыл бұрын
About Luisa, my theory is that she's gifted with physical strength because of her emotional strength. In her solo, we can see that she's the one "holding" the family and the city itself together and a few parts of the chorus show how much she's willing to take so everyone can feel less burdened: "Give it to your sister, it doesn't hurt and see if she can handle every family burden" "Give it to your sister and never wonder if the same pressure would've pulled you under" The song talks about her feeling pressured to be strong, but imagine how many years has she been carrying that weight. How long has she been taking other's problems as her own without a single crack. I'm surprised it took Luisa that long to finally break down and it was exactly because she was losing what allowed her to be helpful, "useful" to the family. She's strong in every way. Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Dolores was probably a quiet kid, not necessarily a tattletale, I’d think of a kid who listens more than she speaks, a kid who loves learning so they pay attention when someone is talking in hopes they might learn something. One of those kids everyone is surprised by because they’re so respectful. I think Isabella’s trait shows itself at the end of the movie when she and her sisters plant those succulent/cactus plants, she’s a garden queen 🥰 I can imagine her in kindergarten taking immaculate care of her plant (idk about you but my kindergarten class planted tomato plants, we got to take them home at the end of the year), or learning that plants like to be talked to, so having gossipy conversation with the flowers in their garden
@cosmicstingray77902 жыл бұрын
@@ravyntaylor6982 That a really nice point about them! I like to think that Isabella's gift, just like her personality, comes in different shapes and sizes. Like, a plant doesn't need to be a flower to be beautiful, just like we see her at the end of the movie. Isa only shows her pretty and delicate side in the beginning, however in her solo we see many plants that are resilient (like cacti) or even carnivorous. She's having fun making plants not necessarily pretty, but unique and different, even fun to look at or a bit painful to get close to. Just like herself.

I don’t know if anyone else mentioned this- (so if they did- I apologize)- ANYWAY, the “miracles” are just a reflection of our dominant trait (for better of for worse) for Mirabel’s mom was probably a very helpful and healing presence in her household as a child- so when she got her door it recognized her healing dominant trait and the miracle made her a healer… and so on and so forth. Before Antonio gets his door what does Mirable give him as a gift? He clearly LOVED animals already therefore it made him able to talk to animals. In the same way, Bruno- being the “man-of-the-casita” probably worried about the future or maybe always tried to plan for the future because he felt like he had to take care of his family’s future being the only man! Which brings us to Dolores… Dolores has probably always been nosey and in everyone else’s business so when it was her turn for the miracle that’s what it recognized in her as her strongest personality trait. Makes you think… if that is how the miracle works… what would your power be? Would it be used for good- or would it back fire and be used to torcher yourself?
