I'd love to see how the rest of the world fared after the war. Europe especially seems set up to recover decently well, all things considered. Not only does rebuilding after wars, plagues and societal collapses make up the majority of Europe's history since antiquity, it also was too busy with its own struggles to get involved in the war between America and China, or make grandiose self-sabotaging plans like the Enclave. With relatively few direct nukes (only targets of opportunity by other nation states or indiscriminate bombing by America/China) large parts of society would have survived the event itself. While already short on resources and now even shorter on time, they would have had enough time to at least somewhat prepare for the coming nuclear winter - re-establishing the disrupted communications, archiving knowledge and preserving crops in case the fallout ruins current harvests beyond repair. You'd see Europe largely regress into smaller communities of survivors, comparable to the fractured feudal landscape of the middle ages. However, with knowledge preserved, the end of the immediate nuclear winter would jump-start new growth, quickly returning Europe as a whole to a pretty functional state, all things considered. It would still take them the first century after the war until they can even consider making any attempts at re-connecting with the outside world, between disputes among nations and the slow establishment of new efficient power sources. Eventually they send out their first scouting parties, especially to their cousins in America. However, between the Enclave's manipulation and the dominant faction's stubborn pride (and to varying degrees internalized xenophobia) they make it very clear that these scouts are not welcome on American soil, preventing any other serious attempts for quite a while. Could make for an interesting faction for a future Fallout game: A European high-tech exploration ship off the coast of the region, trying to get an image of how America fared these past centuries. As the player you can decide to help them establish outposts (and inadvertently undermine the local power structure because the population flocks to these new amenities) or you side with one of the local factions and try to seize their advanced tech for yourself.

Europe tore itself apart canonically during the resource wars before the invasion of anchorage
@SKy_the_Thunder
@SKy_the_Thunder 7 ай бұрын
@@alros1212 Yeah, and it had 200 years to pull itself back together since then. It has historically done so in much shorter time frames, even without this much technological and scientific know-how. Sure, it will have splintered into local communities fending mostly for themselves initially - but that was the default state of Europe for the past several millennia: Small kingdoms, duchies, countdoms, dukedoms, etc. loosely connected by some common ancestry or shared history. No reason it would be worse off than during the late middle ages once the nuclear winter clears. And scientific re-discovery would pretty quickly return it to an at least semi-modern state. You'd probably see some wave of radical forced "unification" in the wake of societal collapse (like we saw with Napoleon or Hitler), which will cause more chaos, sure. However, those ironically create a common cause for the rest of the continent to rally behind and grow closer. Allying with others means you won't get bulldozed that easily - and many may take this as an opportunity to reunite into a semblance of the old countries. That's a process that has historically played out over the span of decades. No reason it couldn't happen over two centuries.

It would be beyond amazing if they got Ron perlman to be the unrevealed CEO of the vault tec corporation, breifly shown in the shadowy background of the corporate meeting in episode 8 of the show. It would explain how he was present as the narrator in all of the games as clearly Vault tec did not simply vanish after the war... Buds bud's showed many dozens more unopened pods, and who's to know there isnt a secretive command vault out there where they are still continuing to plot?

This video is good but just further clarification that the Fallout 1950s thing is less on the actual culture and more on the aesthetic and retrofuturism. If it was mainly on the culture... You'd have to see a lot more "colored/whites only" signs in this game.

Farmland could be used to create pine and palm tree you can create turpentine (substitute for gasoline) and palm oil (substitute for diesel) it would be expensive but sustainable... we'd adjust by developing smaller more fuel efficient vehicles and engines. We'd adjust....

14:48 - “Trench Warfare.. in Alaska” I honestly can’t see this as all that realistic, since all trenches would have to be dug in the limited amount of time that there isn’t permafrost. I guess I’m not all that familiar with trench warfare, but there certainly wouldn’t be a whole lot of troop mobilization(i.e. new trenches), apart from during the few summer months.

They don't really need to be dug if you just use explosives, and they don't seem to be shy about blowing things up in Fallout. Alternatively a nuclear powered trench-digger with red hot uranium-tipped shovel would do the job!

Essentially at the point when the bombs were dropped in Japan, instead of being horrified and fearful of nuclear power this other universe instead embraced it and tried to incorporate it everywhere. With nuclear power now providing cheap energy to everyone, the main motivator for semiconductor research was removed making electronics & computers something exclusively for the rich & powerful.

I was excited at first (and genuinely liked the show) I just hope this doesn't have a negative impact on fallout as a whole, we gamers and wasteland lovers are a devoted group. Like the fact everyone playing 76 now with no reference other than the show. If you are one of these people I beg ya, check out New Vegas, 4, and 3 (Pref 1 and 2 fu*k tactics but they are so old most average players prlly wont like them).

@@greenkoopabruh, fallout lore heavily points to vault tec encouraging nukes being dropped. The show never states that vault tec actually did it but showcased their willingness for it to happen.

Actually from what I've read over the years (and yes there's disputes/variations on this), the Chinese _mostly_ dropped smaller fission weapons (like Nagasaki or larger) but in *huge* numbers and *ground burst* many of them, not air burst. The area around Las Vegas, for example, was targeted by 77 nukes for example! That caused massively more physical damage than a few airburst megaton bombs, is more reliable (a smaller number of megaton weapons would be more prone to being foiled by glitches or interceptors) it also ensure more firestorms ("Ring of Fire" effect), and produce vast amounts of fallout which would kill far more folk than blast, fire and direct radiation (Note this is based on real science!) Added to which all the fusion or fission powered vehicles, factories etc got blasted and reactor materials exposed, fission reactors produce WAY more radioactives than bombs ever could adn with *much* longer half-lives. Ergo, the Chinese ensured the destruction of America by long term as well as short term destruction!

It was interesting to me to hear about a 1950s-esque game constructed around 2000s fears of overpopulation and the collapse of petroleum, when the real problems facing us are the low birth-rate in many industrialized nations and the hopelessness of youth in places like China.
