It bugs me that Lawrence Fishburne was not cast to reprise his role as Morpheus. Some roles you can switch out actors, but in my opinion his was an iconic role that just isn't the same without him. They try and use parlor tricks to keep the Fishburne Morpheus visible, but it's not the same.

Somewhat less so with Agent Smith since that character aging doesn't make so much sense but it's certainly a big loss to not have Hugo Weaving whether that would have been a problem or not.

i think they're setting the movie up to reveal that they plugged him back into the matrix for the fun of it, but changed character design parameters to random so no one looks the same, but they're all there and neo will slowly regain his memory. he will probably relive the entire first movie and "remember everything" for the memes which sounds pretty cool. neo will be even stronger now. he may even be an architect or an oracle to the others.

Just a reminder, this Morpheus is not the same person as the one from the trilogy. He was programmed into a game by Neo, and is sort of meant to be a mix between OG Morpheus and Smith, which would explain why he is an agent at the start

The truth is that his kung fu is much better now. When Keanu played Neo all those years ago, he didn't know any martial arts. That movie got him interested and he has been a serious practitioner of martial arts since then. For some of us, Keanu's martial arts movements in the original Matrix looked awful, except when he posed for a still shot at the end of a sequence. (the action director could arrange for him to strike a perfect pose but they couldn't make his movements authentic since he had no background at the time) But now Keanu really knows martial arts, and so Neo can "know kung fu" with much more authenticity. He's going to be great.

Remember when Neo saved Trinity by taking that "bullet" out and restarting her heart. He embedded part of his Matrix "The One" code in her, just like he did Agent Smith when he entered the Agent's body and blew him apart in the first Matrix movie. So in the 7th version of Neo in this eternal "loop" of restarting the Matrix, which Neo ended up not restarting the Matrix, but Agent Smith did by copying Neo (combining the code back to the source). The"loop" is now rewritten, and all those changes from the 6th version are now the "new loop". The ONE code is now in Neo and Trinity. Oh, the irony! Adam and Eve. it makes perfect sense In my humble opinion.

You're right but I think Trinity is part machine. If you watch the latest trailer, it clearly shows Trinity leaving the "pod" or capsule having no bottom half. So she has been saved by machines as part machine, this may explain why she says "this is where my dream ends" right as her and Neo are destroying the system from the inside out. I really hope this lives up to the hype. I haven't been this excited to see a movie in years. EDIT: (12/22/21) I just saw it. It wasn't completely bad per se. However, there were some problems with the cinematography and the story. Finally, there was entirely too much estrogen.

Me too, it bought back that feeling in the 90’s right after watching the Matrix and how excited you were just when you saw someone wearing a leather jacket and sun glasses. You ask yourself “Have they seen it too?” That feeling you get when you think beyond a limiting thought, and “free your mind” suddenly things become easier to do. That beautiful feeling of waiting in the cinema line, the smell of the popcorn, the plush seats, the room darkens, and you know for the next hour or two, your perspective is not going to be the same. I hope this one delivers as the sequels truly fell short.

@@clementeen I saw it on the first day it was released. I kept telling everyone I could that they needed to see it. I brought my friends and they all said they were bored and mad at me right up until Neo was being interrogated and his mouth melted. A couple months later, its popularity started picking up steam. I miss those times in America. It wasn't perfect, but it was seemingly better than now in the ways that matter.

One of the best parts of the original Matrix was Laurence Fishburne's delivery when he revealed the matrix to Neo and us, the audience. Just like Keanu Reeves, Laurence was an integral part of the original, not having him in this movie is a huge detriment.

My guess: Neo was the 6th chosen of the 6th version of the Matrix. And the only one that did not join the source, being put back, by the machines (together with Trinity, who was also saved by the machines) in the ..... 7th version, as the sixth was destroyed by Smith (the dejavus are due to their memories from the 6th version and the reorganization of the Matrix, for creation of the 7th version) In this 7th, NEO still retains his powers (and as he and Smith were linked, when Neo 'reborn' in this 7th version, so did Smith), but this very reorganization created a disturbance and a new chosen on...in this case, Trinity, who Neo will help to wake up and realize her powers. The union and loving relationship of the two, as the chosen ones, will give both powers never before obtained by any of the chosen ones. This new scenario, will create either a new war with humans or a civil war, between the machines

My friend, I really thought I was onto something when I figured out that The Matrix had actually been rebooted like a computer before the second trailer was released. But good sir from one avid lover of this universe to another, I really think you hit this one square on the head. I was leaning toward Trinity being the new chosen one, as obviously from the new trailer they were trying to wake her up. But you took it so much further than that, as I had noticed in both of the trailers. They don't show Neo flying, not even once. But they do show him taking a leap of faith with Trinity as well as depicting all of his previous abilities, plus one upgrade but no flying. I like this. If I may add, rebooting the Matrix is much like rebooting your computer after a software update. All the programs are the same, however, there are changes that can, and do, cause them to run differently. Neo and Trinity are always "The One" One cannot exist without the other, much like the kernel and the assembly code of your computer. They will always need each other, else the system will not function. In this one, the order of operations is reversed, so we will see the program behave in a completely different manner, as you allude to in your comment. This will, in fact, not be the same way. I am curious if this is the first of three movies that will essentially tell the same story, albeit in a totally different path. Would love you feedback.

Keanu Reeves said he would only make a 4th Matrix if the Wachowskis were involved. I saw it twice, the first time was right after we re-watched the 1st film so it was hard not to compare. Watching it again a month later, this is actually a great sequel. The video game trilogy was a great way to play with "The Matrix" and also bring back Morpheus but with another actor. Yes I love Laurence Fishburne too, I even met him in 2007, but this is still a good sequel. They didn't just make fun of WB and how "they were going to do it, with or without us", they did a lot of world-building. It even made me want to see The Matrix 5. They talked about mankind vs machines and eventually finding peace together that it made me want to see more of that. You get a 5 second glimpse of the war between humans and machines and it looked like a painting. Growing strawberries and blueberries, machines turning into allies, the movie gave plenty of good things that made me enjoy it. It is really strange how much I like it more the 2nd time though. I think there was so much going on and it was too soon after re-watching the original that it made me feel differently. I was telling my friends I enjoyed most of it "but I don't like that Agent Smith replacement" then I watch the movie again and I thought he was awesome. I think it was just because I was missing Hugo Weaving playing that role, but what the new guy did with it was fine. Agent Smith and Neo almost seem like they could go grab a drink together sometime. I like when Neo runs off the wall and kicks Agent Smith and Smith says something like "Good one", "Thanks".

Basically as I understand it from the end of the 3rd movie when Neo jacked into the machine city, after making the deal with the big giant head, he essentially did what the architect said he function was, connect back to the source and reinsert the prime program, thus reintializing the matrix into it's next incarnation. Hell Neo even made the same kind of deal previous ones made "Those that want out, you let out." So in trying to avoid falling into the same trap of control, he ended up precipitating the very events, albeit in a different way. Which is sadly almost stating even if we are aware of the trap, that on some level we still can't avoid it, and thus need to find peace surrendering to it. Which ironically is a far cry from the original message of the first movie.

I've been saying this for years now, but the only good Matrix movie is the first one. The second and third have aged horribly on account of completely abandoning the message of the first movie, and being outright narratively dissonant. The message swings completely from "Fight fate!" to "You can't fight fate," and in the process hilariously verifies Smith's statements of inevitability in the first movie, making the whole thing pointless. Revolutions and Reloaded both have a disjointed pace, ruin the message and narrative of the first movie and lean heavily on special FX to make up where they lack in plot and setting. It's better if you just lop off both the movies and just consider the first movie the start and end of the series. ...Resurrections seems to be retreading the same territory with worse actors, and this raises the question of "what's the point?" ...This is actually super relevant to the lack of Hugo Weaving and the new Smith. I'm really left asking why Smith is the main villain again, when they don't even have Hugo Weaving. You can't really write Morpheus out, but they could have just let Smith be done, or maybe play a smaller role where he's no longer the main antagonist. There's absolutely no reason to frontline Smith again: The main villain of the story, for the reasons you mention, _should_ be the Architect. That's actually a good way of salvaging the Trilogy: They lost because for most of the battle they were fighting the wrong enemy. I doubt they're going to do something that smart. The only thing I can wager is that they didn't want to get rid of Smith, because he's the symbol of the deterministic philosophy of inevitability they went with after the first movie... Which says bad things about the direction of the new movie. Smith represents something mindless and destructive that has gotten wildly out of control, whereas Neo and the Architect represent conflicting philosophies of order and liberty, fighting to determine future iterations of the matrix... This means that if they still need Smith to drive the plot, they're going in the same crummy direction they did with movies 2 and 3.

I think you misinterpret the "original message of the first movie", being that the first movie was in fact one third of the "original message". It's like reading the first 5 chapters of a 15 chapter novel, then when the sequel novel comes out continuing the storyline, you criticize its direction because it's so detached and disjointed from the first 5 chapters that you've read of the first novel. But you never really read the entire story. The forthcoming of the Matrix 4 was a bit of a surprise to me, because the original trilogy - NOT the first story - told me the Wachowski's message in full. I mean, look at it: there was the human race that lost their battle to the AI machines that they gave birth to, and became living energy cells that spent their lives and lifeforces in a forced comatose state, and kept there entrapped in a virtual reality called the Matrix. Neo was supposed to be their savior, the "One" that would break free from the machine's strings and controls, and ultimately free the human race. That was the "first movie". By the end of the third movie, what do we learn? That Neo was just one of many "Neos". That therefore because of this, he wasn't truly the "One", but just the next in a long line of "Ones". To be true, Neo was most likely no different than any other human formerly trapped in the Matrix, but eventually breaks free: he was just the latest that comes to believe that he is the "One". Because he was led to believe that he was, by initially Morpheus, and along the way, the Oracle, who led Morpheus to believe that Neo was. And that was the Oracle's - and the machine's - plan, as it's always been their plan with the previous Neos. And future Neos to come. So, Neo is taken back in by the Machines by the end of the third movie. Xion is found as with all other past Xions: their locations were always known by the machines. The machines know exactly how many humans they lose to the Matrix due to it's built-in flaws. The flaws that are necessary in order for as many humans to accept it as they do, to begin with. But there is ALWAYS a % who reject it. The machines know this, and they consider it to be an acceptable deficiency. But by allowing this deficiency to exist, the machines MUST calculate how many escape to form a Xion, and then how many reproduce by natural means. By these calculations, the machines then know how long each Xion of it's era can survive, before it grows to a size that becomes a threat to the machines' dominance on Earth. And when that time comes that it does, the machines go and destroy that Xion. It happens every time. And the cycle begins anew. So by the end of the third movie, Neo is taken back by the machines. Xion is about to be destroyed - the sentinels have been put to sleep mode, but once Neo is done eliminating Agent Smith - the one true threat that the machines never planned (or did they - was Agent Smith actually bait to bring Neo to the machines?) - and Neo has been disposed of, they wake up again and finish the job they mostly have completed. Because who is left for the machines to keep their promise to? What logic would there be to the machines in honoring any promise to the humans? The Matrix returns fresh and healthy. The human race is still energy food for the machines. And new humans start escaping from the Matrix and the whole cycle begins again, for the untold time. Eventually, a new Xion will form. A new Neo will be found. A new Morpheus will be guided by the Oracle to free him/her. And the beat goes on. That was the message that the Matrix trilogy told me.....

Fun Fact: Back then, end of 90s - we needed to use Dial-up connection to use the internet when first Matrix movie was made. Hence the "Phone Booth" strategy for most hackers. People hated this one I enjoyed it *almost* as much as the first one (the first one is simply perfect though, never matched) Wasn't expecting them to do the same...they already closed a cicle on the original trilogy. Something different was needed and they did!! The new characters, Neo's role and Trinity's role is actually really pleasant to watch The only thing I do miss, is that sort of green/dark vibe the whole movie had. Kinda added some electronic and cool atmosphere to it. This one's too colourful. But I truly enjoyed it!

Spoiler theory?! The sixth version ended and the architect created the seventh version and re-programmed Mr.Andersons memory back to the red pill blue pill moment. The architect reprogrammed Neo to instead take the blue pill and he continued on with his life as a programmer at the software company. Years passed and he still had that void and mystery about the matrix hence his psychiatrist appointments and prescription pills to make him suppress the void and mystery. Neo somewhat remembers that life post red pill and he is met with Morpheus to try and remember his past.

I don’t understand the plot in this movie?? Neo died.. trinity died.. agent smith died.. the matrix was fixed and solved and we stil don’t kno who unlocked Morpheus but yet ther all back n for wat?? This movie seems to have a mix of all three movies in one and it doesn’t look good at all!! Matrix resurrection?? More like matrix reburied!! This movie looks so stupid!!

If you remember Morpheus told Neo that the one eventually always ended up being brought back into the Matrix. Even the Merovingian told him he had fought the one countless times as did the architect. The one always finds his way back to the matrix.
