I get the feeling that this has already been said but... you could specifically request that your favourite food is something in a can, then, bring a can-opener as your item, that way, You’re the only person who can access your food, anyone on a higher level probably wouldn’t bother because it takes too long to open and they won’t wanna risk dying for keeping food, the only con I can see is if you end up on a REALLY low level, someone with a knife or something above you could be desperate enough to try and open it.

The chefs prepare the food to be eaten, so more than likely the can would be opened already. The best thing to ask for is a giant bowl full of poisoned salt. The chances of everyone above you using it on their food and dying are going to give you a better chance to move to the top floor with the ladder a few days later

So I did the math. The average MRE (per google) is 1250 calories per day. Dividing 576 by two (one for yourself and cellmate), and again by the number of days in 6 months (roughly 180) you have about 1.6 MREs per day. That's 2000 calories and definitely sustainable. Only worry is they might consider it TOO large or against the rules. Or perhaps that your neighbors catch wind and murder you somewhere along the way...which is why a cellmate trained with a deadly weapon would do wonders.

They wouldn't be able to open it or remove the content since you'd only have the key/password to open it (Maybe store a gun with bullets in there too for save measures) And agree within your group to all pick poisonous food (or not) and hope that the food should kill off those most hungry and desperate leaving more for those who aren't You could also just do this plan solo tho

I'm a little astounded at the amount of people saying "it's going too fast to ride to the top". It carries glass, ceramic, and metal backup everyday. Yeah they could just clean up the equivalent of a shrapnel bomb every day, but more likely is it just slows down as it reaches the top. Only a few MPH/KPH would be needed for it to be too fast to jump on for the people on the top few floors, who wouldn't really have the incentive to jump on there anyway.

Platform doesn't have room to slow down at the top. People on the first level see level 0, but can't reach it. If platform would slow down in order to not break whatever is on it, it needs to slow down much earlier than 3 meters before level 0. And people would jump onto it. Also as you saw in the movie, plates are broken by people on the way down. So i think they are cleaning mess on the first floor every day.

Quick nit-pick: I don't think it's a 98% chance that you end up below level 50 two months in a row. If there's an 85% chance of being below level 50 each month, the chance of it happening twice in a row is .85^2, or around 72%

The bottom level actually have an advantage, that is they have the power to decide what remains on the platform before it gets send back to the top. They can write a SOS message on the platform with blood, or they can wipe out others message from the higher floors. In fact, the person on the lowest floor is the only one who decides what messages can be left on the platform. Spread this concept out and everyone above you will give you respect

This depends on the people at the top giving a shit. Someone is clearly monitoring what's going on (food can't be stashed) and any message left on your floor would also be seen when the floors are shuffled at the end of a month. There's no reason to think that an SOS message would be seen by anyone with the power or inclination to help.

The real advantage of being on the lower floors is it's way easier to ride the platform all the way to the top. High floor? You have to survive ~300 levels of people who want the food you're either standing on or tossed off to make room. Not really likely you'll survive the whole time. Mid level floor? Still about 150 levels to get to the bottom. *Maybe* you can convince other people to join in the escape attempt but you're 100% going to be running into cannibals who are just going to kill you on sight. Floor 332? You know there's a kid on the floor below you, and the kid can easily tell you there's no floors below them (If you don't look for yourself). Very easy decision to ride down at least 1 floor to keep the kid company. After maybe a day or two of observing what happens to the platform after it goes past 333 you know it's relatively safe for you, your roommate, and the kid to jump on the platform before it heads down and then ride it back up. It's an incredibly low risk high reward plan because cannibalism isn't going to last you long with no floors to continue going down to find new victims, and the longer you wait the more likely you are to encounter a cannibal riding the platform down in order to hunt, so either it's a slow deatg from starvation or a quick death via whatever's at the bottom. Like, it's such an easy and obvious solution that the most absurd part of the movie is that there isn't a legitimate escape at least one successful escape attempt each cycle, each one with the level 333 kid. And I say "at least" because surely once level 331 sees what you're doing they'll try it, and once 330 sees them *they'll* try it and so on and so forth. There's no need to do 1 level at a time either, if you communicate and coordinate days between floors you could feasibly get everyone out in a month, starting with the lowest floors since they'll starve otherwise. A real "I trust 332 residents no to be stupid" followed by a "monkey see monkey do" movement.

Remember that there are 5 ways of this happening. 1st and 2nd month being lower than 50, 2nd and 3rd month being lower than 50, 3rd and 4th month being lower than 50, 4th and 5th month being lower than 50 and 5th and 6th month being lower than 50. The whole film I was thinking about how gross I thought the snails were, but I think that’s one of the greatest ideas. Order something only the desperate would want, and the top layers wouldn’t think of eating. Like crickets or bear brains or something. It might be a good strategy because it would provide a little extra food from layers 50-100, but not enough to save you from the pit.

Here's one i've been thinking of after watching the movie, If you're volunteering to going into the pit, have your favorite food be a big food item that multiple pairs of people would likely eat from, (EX: A wedding cake) mixed with as much ground up Hemlock as possible. It isn't a way to 'beat' it more or less killing others so that when you do eventually get placed in a lower floor, there would be a higher chance for there to be food and not just plates and broken glass. (If push comes to shove id say build up a resistance to Hemlock before going in specifically to not die from poisoning if there's only your cake left on the platform and you happen to be at a lower level and no cell mate to cannibalize)

Woah did we just come up witht the exact same thing or did you see my comment on another video on 'the platform'? Lol. My solution was: Choose a poisonous food as your 'favourite food'. It should be something huge like a big wedding cake for optimal strategy. This way, it's very appetizing and most people would eat it first. And since you don't really see what's going on on the other floors, the others wouldn't know about it. This way, even on the first day, a majority of people would die of the poison. No watter where you are, this should leave enough of the other food for you. And as your item choose a bottle of antidote! This way only you can safely eat the cake, if the others would figure it out, which is unlikely in itself (so you could even bring a weapon or such). And newbies would also not be aware of this. So you would be basically killing almost the entire facility, leaving anough food for yourself. Egotistical, but if the goal is to survive then yeah

Bring a container of cockroaches or some kind of bug. Then when you're on the higher floors, give them food so they multiply. Even on lower floors, they might be willing to eat scraps of paper if they have some food on them. Giving them food might trigger the temperature thing, but as long as there arent chunks of food left over when they're done eating, I don't think it would be a big problem. Then when on lower floors and there's not enough food on the platform for you, start eating a couple each day or however much so that they continue to be self sustaining. Probably better than starving even if it's not very filling.

That's actually brilliant. Cockroaches breed fast and lay lots of eggs that hatch maggots, it would be very easy to upkeep a reasonable amount of breeding pairs, and then slowly ration out the remaining maggots/old cockroaches as lower level food.

You can bring literally anything, right? And if we go under the assumption that you can enter as a pair, perhaps it is possible for you and your partner to bring a way to grow food. There are probably a lot of problems with this, but I think I’m on the right track. If you bring in a sustainable food source , you could survive.

So before you enter the facility you could prepare a small farm in a large box by putting soil and planting sweet potatoes inside it (sweet potatoes are easy to farm, make a lot of food per area farmed and contain most of the things you need) Since sweet potatoes take 90-120 days to grow you should separate your farm into 15 sections and plant potatoes in one section every 7 days starting about 105 days before your application day so when you’re in you will have a steady supply coming in every 7 days. Yes, the box would have to be pretty big, maybe even might end up covering more than half of your floor. I haven’t done the math but if it does than you should leave a hole in the middle for the platform. The transportation part is not your problem since you will be knocked out so that’s for them to figure out. When your application day comes write down “my lovely potato farm” as your item. After you’re in, start farming and stockpiling food if you’re on an upper level for when you land on a lower level. Your floor shouldn’t heat up since you’re not stealing food. If you are on a lower level offer to share some of your potatoes with your roommate so that you won’t have to worry about your roommate trying to kill you since they have an insensitive not to, if you die your item gets removed right? So from your roommates perspective it’s better to keep you and have a small but continuous food source than to eat you and have a lot of food for 2 days and risk starving. Although your farm may not be able to fully feed you it will keep you somewhat fed and hopefully alive too, again the goal is to just survive and not be fully fed. Depending on how many potatoes you stocked up on higher levels you might be able to survive more than 2-3 months in a lower level, especially if you planted them in a big box. Remember your goal is not to be fully stuffed but to not starve. If anything it should at least decrease the cannibalism and give your roommate a good reason to cooperate TLDR: bring a sustainable food source as your item, your roommate won’t kill you since your item gets removed if you die. Might not fully feed you but will keep you alive

I have seen the movie. About just riding the platform to the top... While room 0 isn't guarded, it is more likely than not that: 1. The door that enters room 0 is locked from the outside. 2. The room can change temperature just like all others.

@Interlace Ok, in case you haven't seen the movie. Let me explain in detail. Room 0 is at the top and room 333 is at the bottom. What must be remembered is that the kitchen (where they cook the food and Herrald wants them to attack) is in a completely separate room from room 0 (where the platform arrives, and they place the food). So they have to get out of room 0 (maybe even through other likely guarded corridors and/or rooms not directly shown) if they want to get to the kitchen. If the door to room 0 is locked from the outside (probably) they are stuck there. When Herrald say Room 0/kitchen is unguarded he says that because there are no visible guards, lasers or security cameras in these areas. Counter: But room 0 opens when the facility need to get in to it to clean and fill the platform again, right. Right! Counter: So if there are no visible security cameras, the facility can't know that there are people on the platform arriving in room 0. Wrong. 1-333 have no visible security systems, yet the facility always detects when people don't but back their food on the platform. To assume then that the facility for some reason won't be able to detect when there is a hole group on the platform in a room they are not allowed to be in seems kind of silly. Room 0 looks exactly like every other room (1-333). They did something they were not allowed to, the room changes temperature and kills them.

Bring a trained attack dog. It would eat from the food of the platform or from corpses of your roommates (cleaned). It will basically become a 2v1 if your floormate would want to turn against you. The reason why this is better than just a normal weapon is because the risk of waking up second when on a lower floor would be somewhat dimmed (depending on if the dog can actually wake up faster from the knockout gas). There is also the addition of not going insane like the main character because you got a dog to put your attention away from all the killings you do.

Hope that the new mixture is classified as food so that it heats up the room and as a result the brownie mix, quickly removing it when it smells like it’s done. With the jelly hope that it heats up first, wait til you hear a boil then quickly take it out, this should mean that your level experiences temperature change, when the upper level is back to normal hope that it changes to the cold now 8. The thing is that it's heavily theorised that the girl doesn't actually exist, it's actually the pastry (shown at 10:58). The hair that the head chef is pulling off is actually from the main character. The main thing about them riding down is instead of rationing it's to make sure that one piece of food makes it to the bottom untouched, so that the people up top know that something is going on (but as shown in the scene from the movie, they take it differently from what the main character intended). If you watch the film then towards the end the main character really isn't in a good mental space, and it was confirmed by the person that signed him in to the pit that they do not, under any circumstances, let children enter.

Here's my idea: *Flood the facility using the sink, and plant algae in the water.* Because the facility uses knockout gas and temperature management systems, there is presumably _some_ system of the facility that might be compromised by flooding the place with water, that could force the people running it to shut it down due to the damage. Even if it doesn't destroy the facility, if you bring an algae culture with you into the facility _(and considering one guy brought a surfboard you could easily bring something pretty damn big)_ , you could potentially create a reusable food source. You should probably pick a form of algae that improves water quality, grows quickly, and is safe for humans to eat. This solution gets much more difficult if the tapwater in the facility contains chlorine or other agents that might prevent algae growth, but apparently those agents aren't permanent in standing water, so you should experience at least _some_ success over the course of a month doing this. If your algae culture was in some kind of aquarium that contained a water filter, you could also use that to deal with any potential chlorine in the tapwater. The ideal scenario, aside from outright breaking the facility, is to cover the place with these microorganisms that the management will hopefully have an extremely hard time scrubbing, _(if they do it at all)_ will feed the occupants at least _somewhat_ and can regrow each month via flooding and the lights that are everywhere. It wouldn't solve the food problems entirely, but it would allow the occupants to grow at least some food by themselves and have a better chance subsisting on the lower levels.

This is obviously not the case, but I shall write this mini essay with the thought that it is true. Let's imagine a long platform, so each dish is easily accessible. There are 666 spots on this platform, so a table that is 3 spots wide and 222 spots long, with 1 meal each. Each meal varies in size and taste, but there are 666 requested meals. Law of averages, every inmate's preferred dish should average out to an entire meal. Some people requested full tower cakes, others a few snails, but the law of averages balances this out over a sufficiently large population, which we have. We can bet that majority of prisoners, or even 30%, are aware that food is a big deal, which means those prisoners would request larger meals. Like the big brained guy who requested a whole tower cake. I would request a full steak, rice, and mushrooms, my favorite dish. That could easily feed one or two, or even three people here. Which means even if my dish doesn't survive, it tanked the hits for someone else's dish to reach me. Even if we assume low, and we end up with an average less than a full meal, each inmate only has a short time to eat. So the fact that - assuming there are only 333 floors - that 666 dishes are eaten in 50 levels is insane. Lunch breaks are 30 minutes, the platform moves quick so we can cut that down further but it won't help the incoming math. For 666 dishes to be eaten by 100 people, each inmate must eat 6.66 dishes in their time frame. This math gets even worse if we assume the prison holds even more than 333 floors. More prisoners means more dishes, larger platform, more opportunities for big meals, and the top 100 have to eat EVEN MORE food. ... Oops, went overboard on my answer.

It could be another form of stratification in the society of the tower and could also explain why the main character is so lucky in his floors: there could be an underclass whose opinion was never asked and who are prevented from ever being given a high floor. In the metaphor of the film, the upperclass could represent people in first world countries who at least have the chance to end up on top of an arbitrary and unfair system. The underclass could represent 3rd world countries who are exploited by wealthier nations, and whose inhabitants never had a chance

Example, when MC is asked, his name, item brought in, and food are all on a charter list alongside other filled out sections. Each person, regardless of status, had brought in an item which would go against the themes of have and have not. If I were to chalk it up to anything, I would say that the author really wanted a 'we live in a society' theme and fucked up the worldbuilding, which makes it into a meme rather than statement.

Depending on what level you're on its most likely more worth it to eat the scraps rather than waiting 25 hours for 1 egg. Another problem being your random new cellmate each month may just kill the chicken...

Another idea I had was flooding the facility. We know that every floor is given a sink and a toilet with a limitless supply of water. If you clog the sink and toilet with the bedsheets you could start filling the facility with water and swim to the top. If riding the platform up to the top isn’t possible since we don’t know if it slows down before reaching level 0 or it just comes to a sudden halt and destroys anything that’s on it on the ceiling above we might need another way. Obviously one toilet and sink won’t do. Either you’d have to convince every person below you to do the same or travel down and kill them to do it yourself. Depending on what floor you started on you’d be able to clog the sink and toilet of almost every floor. If the bottom floor where Goreng got off with his hallucination of Trimagasi exists then this would be nearly impossible as that bottom floor itself could not be filled in a month. But there’s a chance that floor doesn’t exist because Goreng was bleeding out and he may have dreamt up that floor due to blood loss. I’m not quite sure if every sink and toilet could fill up 333 floors in a month but maybe it could work.

Also gonna point out here that according to IMDb, the individual cells within the prison are 6 meters high meaning that the prison overall with its 333 levels is about 2km in depth - meaning that if the prison was built downwards, then it's basically deeper than the Grand Canyon but just shy of the deepest cave in the world found in the country of Georgia; and if it were built upward (which it presumably isn't because then the base would have to be really big and/or there would be something in the structure's life support and frame to accommodate for changes in air pressure, oxygen levels and possibly the appearance of flying objects) it would be the tallest building to date dwarfing the Burj Khalifa - against natural structures, the prison would be of the same height/depth as Serra da Estrela in Portugal and Mount Le Conte in Tennessee, US

Here are a few solutions I came up with: **Bring something that you can split up and sustain yourself for 6 months, there are plenty of items you should be able to bring (I believe it just has to fit in a backpack), for example a backpack full of MRE that you can split over the course of 6 months. Though you might have to fight your partner, you could just duo queue or try to fight them with fists or offer them some food and kill them in their sleep . **Bring multiple (in a bundle so its one item) explosive/toxic gas chemicals, this will kill every single prisoner above you, since gas clouds float up, and since they float up they wont be able to eat your food and you'll be able to kill them ** i don't remember there being exceptions for fully automatic miniguns or rocket launchers, so you can use one to explode the entire facility, you should be able to legally (or illegally purchase some) **since you can bring a dog, you should also be able to find, train (or steal) a parrot highly trained with the ability to drop food on other layers, if the prisoners dont notice they will die, this parrot can also be used to retrieve food for yourself, any small amount should do considering the odds of you being on a level so low you won't get any food is so low. Remeber the parrot can still provide u a small amount of food, you can also use a highly skilled monkey ** if all else fails remember there is NO RULE to keeping dead bodies on your level, so just keep the dead bodies of people you stayed with previously in your pockets (or parts of them) and have a feast when necessary, worst case just kill your partner with your company sponsored AR-15, machete, or katana.

Minor note: most poison gasses are heavier than normal air and sink to the ground. Only a few gasses are lighter than air and would float to the ceiling. The ones I can think of are hydrogen, helium, methane, and ammonia. Of these, ammonia is poisonous, and ammonia, methane, and hydrogen are all flammable/explosive. But if you had enough of any of these gasses, you could kill the people above you by simply displacing/pushing away all the oxygen from the upper levels with the gas you bring

Supplemental note: ammonia and methane are relatively easy to liquefy and thus easy to carry (think propane tank). If I were to use this solution, I would probably bring the liquefied ammonia and release it, trying to poison the higher levels, and hope nobody brought a lighter and the electrical is up to code. Or if I was low enough, maybe I would try to make the upper levels go big boom. But you would need hundreds of pounds of liquefied gas to fill up a building that tall.

So basically this is a strategy that doesn't really help you survive, but tries to help other people on lower plaforms. It also requires a top 10 position, if possible a top 5. If you are lucky enough to get placed at one of the top levels you should just grab all the food from the platform and 'store' it on your level until the platform goes down a least two levels. The heat on your level will increase and when you can no longer resist the heat or cold then you must push all the food down to the platform below you. Some food will probably fall down the shaft, but someone from the lower platforms could try to catch it. The people below you will not find any/hardly any food on their platform. Wich will make them panic. But when you throw the food at them, they will be in a hurry and hardly have any time to eat because they will be buissy to shove the food down to the next level as fast as they can, because they also will have troubles with the cold/heat. And this will go on. This system basically forces people to push food down, and aims to give people the least time possible to eat it, in order to give people on the lower levels a chance to also eat something. Have your item be a very big a very strong sheet of steel, block the platform from moving further down by blocking the hole. The room doesn’t heat up or cool down until the platform descends so you’d have a full table of food depending on which floor you started on.

Added danger for the ladder idea being that the platform speeds to the top. For the prisoners not knowing how many levels there are for certain, that means its unpredictable for when the platform could speed to the top completely destroying your ladder and you if you happen to be on it. I think the rope is the better idea. If your dedicated to being a cannibal and your on a lower floor, it would be easier to convince a person bellow to climb up a level using your rope, and when they are nearly at the top hit them with a bed pole. This also leaves the chance to climb a level like the rat did and giving you 2 new potential food sources. This isnt perfect but at least cuts down the risk of being platform-smushed

1) So bring a pick axe (or a concrete breaker, the hand held one) and reduce the number of levels in the building over the corse of time. You up the statistics of survival by focusing on destroying each level with something like a pick axe. And if you bring a partner in with you have both of you focus on destroying each level of the building as much as you can. These tools can also be used for canabalism on the lower levels or defense. 2) Bring a flamethrower and ride the platform down or up to roast the occupants of the other levels. If you focus on reducing the number of people in the place by the month you reduce the number of mouths to feed while reducing experienced prisoners in the prison. 3) As the person with the concrete destroyer, find somebody with a water-bottle and freeze apart the concrete floors in order to demolish the floors like in option one but with less effort. (Saving muscle mass for when it matters). So like leave food on various floors and let expanding water crack apart different floors in the building., 4) Try and use the bed materials (or anything really) to jam the food platform in place when on a higher level to horde the food for yourself. 5) Sabatage the food platform on the upper levels with posin early in the month to get rid of others on lower levels leaving more food for you and your partner for a whole month. 6) Use the platform to constantly meet up with your ally in the platform and team up month by month. (Create an ally while in the platform). These are 6 different options.

I would bring gardening mushroom. Mushrooms don't need sun light and would be abel to grow since I have access to water and are able to draw enough minerals out of feces. And if that wont work, I would just bring a nuke

Sustainably cultivating mushrooms is actually really hard. Its easy-ish to get mushrooms to grow, its just REAAALLLLLYYY hard to control what kind of mushroom it is. Who knows maybe the Facility is basically a giant clean room and the risk of contamination is minimal.

They wouldn't be able to open it or remove the content since you'd only have the key/password to open it (Maybe store a gun with bullets in there too for save measures) And agree within your group to all pick poisonous food (or not) and hope that the food should kill off those most hungry and desperate leaving more for those who aren't

What do we know about the managers of the Pit? 1. They watch you closely enough to spot one guy out of 666 putting an apple in his pocket. 2. They have enough clout to run this expensive place AND either buy you a degree or at least propagandize the population to believe they can. 3. They either enjoy human suffering or are indifferent to it. 3a. If indifferent, they have some ulterior motive for the Pit to justify its immense cost. 4. Since the main character is weirdly lucky in being high up three times, it's likely that the room assignments are NOT random, but rather driven by the whims of someone in charge. From this, we can conclude that if you do anything that genuinely jeopardizes the running of the Pit, YOU WILL BE STOPPED. You can't bring a nuke -- the word of a clerk saying "anything" means nothing, because she's a f***ing CLERK! If you climb out, you will be shot with a trang dart and put in Level 333. If you try to flood the place, they will turn off your water.

well, theres a really simple solution. In the scene where the chef was serving up the snails and putting them on the platform, there was something that really stood out to me. The 3 tier cake. At the beginning of the film, we also saw that the 3 tier cake made it all the way to level 49 and it was half eaten. Given that, if everybody just said that their favorite food was 3 tier cake, and1 3 tier cake could make it roughly 60 levels before it gets eaten, only about 7 people would need to say that their favorite food was 3 tier cake and the cakes would make it to the very bottom.

Here is an idea: We can see windows and light coming from them. The light's intensity is changing, meaning it MAY be coming from the sun. With this in mind: two pepole go in as a pair, one of them brings a shaped charge, the second brings two parachutes. One chute may be enought, but there is no limit on how many items we bring in, only on what we bring in, so there is no reason to risk breaking a leg or worse. Blow open the side and jump. Easy.

One idea that I've heard is that you bring a smoke bomb (or just something that can ignite and cause a lot of smokes), then ignite it, and the facility seem to be air sealed, so the smoke won't be able to escape, potentially suffocating the people above you, so you would get the best food every day.
