These cameras bring back so many childhood memories man...it's awesome that you're still making content with same camera to this date as well!

Yeah man, it’s just the same with film cameras. Old gear seeing the light of day and the fact that it was dad’s camera, it even holds more value. More Hi8 stuff coming through the channel! 📹

So I just picked up a Canon ES55 an have yet to find a working video feed wire. Anything to suggest if the one you listed is not available to Canada? Contacted Canon Canada to see if they have options I have not found.

It's nice to be able to use old equipment that would probably end up turning into junk. -- The fact that my dad's camcorder is still functional today shows that it still has life after all these years. I'd ask around if someone still has a camcorder sitting in storage. Get one and start filming!

Hi Russell. I got this camera and am very happy to use it to shoot my bmx videos. I bought the Canon from a family who probably only used it for the holidays (I could see it on the tapes ... it looked great) Now ... my question for you is this. How did you get this image in the videos I see on your channel? Does it have that "old school" look in itself? Or is it necessary to modify any parameter? I ask that because I would like to make my videos look with that essence of the 90s / 2000s. Thank you in advance. Greetings from Argentina.

The Hi8 footage you see on my channel are straight from the camera. Transferred with a usb converter that I connect from the camera to my MacBook. The converter is $10-$20 USD. And the software I use is called OBS. If I need to make some modifications to my footage, I’ll fine tune mostly the saturation and exposure. Otherwise I keep it as is. And all the edits I make for my fashion/portrait videos were all edited on Adobe Premiere Pro.

Hi Russell, I have the same camera which my family used to film our old family videos on in the 90s/00s. I am now trying to digitise these tapes onto a Mac but keep getting stuck. Do you have any advice? Thanks :)
@russellrabanal2 жыл бұрын
Hi Liv, to keep it short, you'll need a USB Video Capture Card. If you shop on Amazon, you can type in "USB capture card Hi8" and you should see devices that cost between $10 - $20 US Dollars. As for transferring, I wish I made a video but honestly I followed this video titled "Convert Old Video Tapes with OBS | Video8 Hi8 Digital8 | Tutorial Guide" by Raphael Lim. Instructions are clear and it should get you to transfer your family videos. If there is anything else you need help on, please let me know.

Hey i hope i could get a quick piece of advice for this camera. Im trying to use the visual effects but when I go in play mode I can’t get actual video it’s just black with the white border information. Hopefully there’s something I just am missing, I did just get this.

I haven't experienced any issues while using this camera so I can't speak on things that I never spent time on. From what you provided, I'm guessing there might be some issues during playback mode. Good luck!

I got this same camera but when I try to play tapes it makes me eject them after about 5-10 sec. Anyone got a solution?
@russellrabanal6 ай бұрын
Does your tape say Hi8 or 8mm? I find that if you use 8mm tapes it often ejects it. You can still record and do playback but it will eject it from time to time.
