At 3:17 It just dawned on me what nostalgia really is: it’s just a lens that you look through in. At the end of the day, people of the 90s were cruising down the same street that you now do, albeit a few changes of course. Life itself remains the same. Thank you for this, I appreciate your effort ❤️

This is mostly true and a wonderful way to describe the sensation. But there are many differences between the '90s and today, mostly small, but combined they do change the look and feel of city life. Obviously fashion was different. The cars are vastly different, as are the typefaces on signs. Even the street signs have been modernized in many cases. But no question, at a glance, this video felt like time travel. Magical.

So aesthetic!!! Love that your parents keep so many of their old items (like your mom’s dresses). Things were made to last back then; I still have some of my mom’s dresses and wool trousers and they look pristine still! It’s also funny that you didn’t know the cassette tape didn’t go in the camcorder- it’s weird how much technology has changed...

i just copped a handyman camcorder dvd edition after wanting one for years :) that aesthetic really reminds me of 2000-2010. I geek over this type of stuff. cameras are so timeless with the ability to "take us back" thru film. that's something modern phones/cameras have really ruined about the aspect of capturing memories. i appreciate all the devices that remain timeless for this type of thing. it keeps the vintage era alive.

I have a one exactly like this from the 90s that my grandmas parter used to own before he died unexpectedly in 2005, I could buy a couple tapes and use them for stuff like this. It has some old holiday tapes from 1999 and my mothers 18th and other stuff like that but it just shows how much a camera can do.

Earlier this year I got one of the old VHS cameras that takes full size tapes from a local thrift store. I haven't done much more than test it so far, but eventually I'd like to do a cheesy low budget horror flick shot on VHS. The VHS apps you can download are cool, but nothing beats authenticity.

I don’t know what went wrong but unfortunately the camcorder footage has an extremely low framerate, I guess it’s related to your adapter or capturing settings. Also it’s not necessary to hook up two video sources. Just use either composite (the yellow jack) or S-Video.
@brenisdank7097
@brenisdank7097 2 жыл бұрын
Was just coming here to say this, if possible you should use s-video > the yellow composite cable cause the video quality will be higher. In the OBS settings there should be a way to change the capture settings from composite to s-video. As for the studdering you can always look up the framerate and resolution of the capture card and change the obs canvas and recording fps and resolutions settings to help stop scaling and fps conversion issues.

You do not need to plug the yellow connector in, as you are using an S-Video cable. The yellow one is composite video, and you only use one of those at a time. S-Video gets you better image quality, so you only want to use composite video if your equipment doesn't have S-Video. The white one you had unplugged is the left audio channel. The digitized video is skipping quite a lot. Maybe there are some settings that could fix it, of maybe the capture hardware just isn't all that good.

@@NitasNiche That was partly due to the types(& sizes) of TVs at the time, that tended to smooth things out, and better match the recording. Of course, some quality is also lost converting it to digital, particularly in the example here where something went wrong when converting to digital - it definitely shouldn't be jumpy/stuttering like the video here.

I enjoyed your video - great nostalgic look! I was wondering why the motion of the Hi8 stuff had a jerky quality - the frame rate is 30fps, the same as standard digital stuff of today, so it should be smooth movement. That is, unless you shoot and edit your digital videos at 24fps - the frame rate of cinema. That might explain the jerky quality - which is fine, adding more nostalgia to the montage. Nice piece!
