William Forsythe talks about the new version of Sergio Leone's 1984 classic Once Upon a Time in America that screened at the 52nd New York Film Festival. www.filmlinc.co...
Sergio Leone’s final and perhaps greatest film, a New York gangster saga housed within an intricate construction that shuttles through time, with Robert De Niro, James Woods leading a remarkable cast. This restoration, including material previously unseen in the U.S., preserves the director’s original structure.

Only thing I feel that’s remotely close is “The Irishman” (the last time you’ll see a Scorsese mob 🎥 starring DeNiro, Pacino, Pesci, Keitel)

This film is like the Sistine chapel. It’s never gonna happen again. Over 10 years to create. The sets, the locations, the details of every scene. Leone’s obsessive perfection imo surpasses Kubrick’s perfectionism in this case.

i have watched just about every gangster and mob film going, the irishman, the departed, the godfather film, the lot, but this one is THE BEST I HAVE EVER SEEN,not just a gangster film, its a coming of age story,a love story,a story about relationships and friendships, and the ennio morricone music score is just beautiful, i watched the 4hr 10 minute version and didnt want it to end, this film is a MASTERPIECE

True this is the best movie, this is better than any other gangster movie that has been ever made. The soundtrack and screencasting is the best I have ever seen, and just the way Sergio leone has directed it with the zoom ins, and everything. God I love this movie.

Don't get me wrong both Godfather Part 1 & 2 (for example) are top notch films, both films deserve it flowers but OUATIA is on a whole another level of greatness, the way Sergio Leone captured the essence of troubled neighbourhood kids who grew up to become fearless, merciless, cold hearted gangsters is nothing short of mesmerizing. This film does not glorify the life of crime, it's showing you the true weight that life carries, from violence, unlawful, deranged and sadistic way of women being treated as objects by these men, the betrayal, the tragedy, the love, regrets and etc all captured really well by Leone and the actors, the score by Ennio Morricone is easily my favourite score out of all the films I have seen so far, this movie moves you deeply and keeps you captivated even with it's 4 hour runtime (depends on the version) but the 4 hour version is the definitive version to watch. This film shows you the life of 4 friends who end up taking the wrong path and by the end each one of them paid it their own way, no glorification just a solid look into the world that you should avoid at all cost and make you look at your life and your past and present. It's more than just an epic crime film, in a way it's a film that lets you have a conversation with yourself. There is many ways to express the way this film makes you feel, but they do not make movies like this anymore. Sergio Leone will always be one of the best to ever do it, just because he created this Masterpiece of a film. Also, R.I.P to James Hayden who portrayed Patsy in the film, unfortunately he overdosed on Heroin shortly after this film, he could have become a great actor.

William Forsythe, Philip stein (Cockeye) is one of my favorite character in the movie "Once Upon a Time in America". I enjoy his music as well. The fun he was having with the baby milk bottle was hilarious. That was a very bad behavior and then he end up sticking his chewing up on the name plate attached to his stolen uniform. That movie is excellent!

If I had one criticism of Leone’s epic, it’s probably that Patsy and Cockeye didn’t get enough focus for characters who should have been so much more important to the story. While they aren’t underused, I really wish they had gotten more attention. Maybe they did in Leone’s intended 6 hour cut or the 4 and a half hour version.
