Now, Dr. Grande needs to analyze the psychology of the people who wrote the horrible ending of Dexter: New Blood, despite having over 7 years to write it.

@@rowmo The fact that Dexter died. I understand that what he does is considered to be evil and illegal by many, but he saves innocent people from dying. His victims aren't angels at all, but the writers treated him like he's Walter White or Tony Soprano: a character who's clearly hurting innocent people with their actions, but doesn't really care about it. Seeing a character that I've loved for years get killed (especially after doing something as unnecessary and stupid as killing Logan) was terrible. Also, where the heck is Harrison gonna go, now? He has no living family members, barely enough money to safely get across the New York state line, and he's related to someone who is now most likely going to be confirmed by the media and law enforcement to be The Bay Harbour Butcher. He's screwed.

@@proctorritter5176 so insightful! I really hated how he senselessly and impulsively killed Logan as well. That was very much not his character for the entire history of the show and its like they made him a sort of monster in the end. I understand if the hero has to die at the end of a series, but why on earth did he have to go out like that? And why would Harrison just kill his own father and the one person who truly understood him just like that...

Now if Mark hadn’t become a serial killer, what he really wanted to do was produce low-budget films starring (what he hoped to be) America’s second-favorite serial killer, Datester. Turns out America wasn’t interested in a knock-off, so…he had to settle for being a real serial killer. Another tough break and shattered dreams!

"Marc's muder victim sent the directions for his date to his friends. If someone is this concerned about meeting someone who they encountered online, it's probably best not to go on the date" Woman here. I've **NEVER** gone on a date with a man without texting my friends to let them know where I'll be and with who, just in case "something happens." My female friends routinely do the same. The only thing that makes it noteworthy in this case is that Marc's victim was a man who thought he was meeting a woman, and he was STILL picking up on some "danger" vibes. But this is pretty status quo behavior for hetero women, and we can't just all "not go on dates."

I've always done this. I will facetime my friends when I arrive and put my date on screen too. They hear me and my friend agree to talk when the date is over. We send a pic of the guy and sometimes his license. Men, even well intentioned men, have no idea what straight women do to stay safe.

@@qtpiballer seriously ? It’s one thing to be careful when meeting a stranger, but wouldn’t it be a better idea to just get to know the person over text or whatever a bit more before meeting in person ? I’m not a woman, so I can’t put myself in your exact position but I feel like taking a picture of someone’s license and sending to to your friends is not only excessive, but wrong (and probably illegal) if you don’t have said persons express permission to do so. I don’t know anyone who would allow that to happen. Your within your rights to do what you feel you need to do to feel safe, but if you have so little trust twords a person that you feel like you need to get evidence of who they are incase something happens, prehaps your body/mind is telling you it’s something to avoid ? I’m not saying don’t go on dates, but if your THIS concerned I believe it’s at least a bit paranoid if not completely irrational. I don’t intend any offense, but as someone with SEVERE trust issues, I personally would never go THAT far

@@NoobOfShameeah, as you said, you’re not a woman so you really wouldn’t understand the measures we have to take to protect ourselves. And to your point about “getting to know them better”, sometimes you really don’t know the real person and it’s all a facade. Part of getting to know them is not only getting to know them over the phone or online, but meeting with them in person which inherently carries some risk. My dad always highly encouraged me to send any and all details to him prior to meeting or going out with anyone, staying out late, traveling, etc. it’s sad, but better safe than sorry. If more people did these things I’m sure there would be fewer murderers on the streets and fewer unsolved cases.

Dexter had a code: specific criteria had to be met for him to kill. This is not to say that behavior is acceptable. In the show, it got out of hand so to speak. I see no similarities accept this guy has a similar set up. In a Dexter storyline, he meets code criterion. Either way, this guy is a psychopathic, impulsive murderer who must have deficits in many areas of the brain associated with planning, emotions, and cognition. I had never heard of this person. I dont think a real Dexter could ever exist. Most SKs are psychpaths who lack empathy. Therefore, murdering only people who hurt others would require a degree of empathy for the victims that most psychopathic SKs don't have. Instead SKs give in to their id and kill according to their whim and urges, not according to any internal ethical standards.

He wasn't sure. He had a feeling about it. This is very common and in most cases there's no murder, just another bad date. Many people get the correct intuitive feeling but because they doubt themselves they put that feeling aside. And most of us don't really expect to get murdered, because it's highly, highly unlikely. If everyone left the contact details with friends as a matter of course, killers wouldn't be able to use dating sites as hunting grounds so I think he was more sensible than many people, he just lacked the confidence to trust his own intelligence. What he should have done was to ask "her" to come outside. Then he'd know for sure something was wrong when "she" refused to. The desire to find a mate is strong. I blame evolution!

I think just because someone is a cold blooded killer doesn't mean they might not have remorse after their horrible acts. Especially if they act on impulse. So I could see some psychopaths wanting confidants to share their guilt with, absolutely. Of course this is speculation and I have no formal expertise. But its somehow scary to me to think that people could both do such evil things and then have a conscience about it later on.

The things some people mindlessly fill their consciousness with in the name of entertainment, is baffling and frankly, sick to me. Normalising violence in ANY way, such that someone finds it enjoyable to watch, is a contributor to the state we find the world in now. As Dr Grande says, it certainly ‘inspires’ some to act upon urges they already possess, but the point is, filling your mind with content like that, as someone who does not believe that those acts are ok, is really just lowering your conscienceless. I know that it’s so normalised now that the above opinion is the exception rather than the rule, but look at the way societal morals have declined over the last couple of hundred years. Look at the depths of depravity women and men stoop too. I believe 95% of human beings are good at their core. But 95% of us have really lost their way.

@@SootSootSooty I find Dexter a fascinating show. I worked for many years as a therapist in psychiatry and in forensic psychiatry. This show is one of the few that I found engaging. It was engaging because of moral dilemma his killing proposes. Not sure if you know about it, but Dexter's father had identified string traits of psychopathy in him as an older child. His father recognised he was killing, and would kill people. So, as a law enforcement officer, he taught his son to live by a very strict code - to 'only kill those who have escaped legal consequences for hurting another person'. They will be the worst of the worst who have got away with their crimes - eg. pedophiles. While the moral questions around Dexter being taught to justify his killing is very interesting, the impact of the justification being external to Dexter (it belonged to his father) has consequences on his psyche. These layers are very intriguing to me - I am impressed at the depth at which the show can explore these extremely complex issues.

I do have to clarify that on ALL online discovery dates ~ meaning the first “date” to get to know a little bit about the person in real life - I ALWAYS met at a busy cafe (NEVER anywhere remote) or restaurant close to easy public transportation AND ALWAYS without fail told a family member (my Dad) or friends the time and restaurant and location that I was meeting the date, gave my “Find my Friends” location so they could track my movements AND gave them all the info of what online site I met them on, their Username, name, phone number, picture, any and all I could glean BEFORE ever going on the Discovery Date and NEVER ever let them drive me home or go to another location with them. Call me careful but I always treated online dating as there being a possible threat and risk of meeting a psychopath. Let’s face it you’re meeting a total stranger coming out of the ether, that’s not vetted by friends, family or your social circle, that can tell you ANYTHING. And I realized you can have a positive outcome where you meet your husband as in my friend OR you could meet any frikken psychopath that delights in the free for all of meeting their next prey this way. So I was always on my guard. So it really doesn’t mean you ‘re meeting in highly risky setups as John did to share the info with his friends. This was always standard operating procedure for me AND should be for all who online date. I do not online date anymore as I just couldn’t take meeting strangers and having to always be on my guard. Not worth it.
