OKAY YA'LL - QUIET DOWN. I was in the courtroom for Nancy's sentencing, and I can tell you how Nancy received such a lenient sentencing. After the verdict was delivered, the courtroom listened to Presiding Judge David Brabham seethe with moral outrage as he admonished Nancy Moses, who until that moment had appeared utterly unflappable. Then, Nancy gave the Judge (and the entire community of Kilgore, TX) a piece of her mind: "Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!!!" The Judge's leniency gave proper consideration to the greater context of the Rangerettes as an institution in Kilgore. A storied pillar of honor, pride, and tradition within their community. The Rangerettes are worth fighting for ya'll! And after all, isn't that what Nancy Moses did?

She stopped cutting players because of all the emotional issues it caused. She would tell the players that were not any good, you’re on the team but you will never play in any games. The team always had at least 20 plus players that never played and they were fine just being part of the team. This was in the late 80s.

What I am wondering is what does the daughter think of all this? Story was that her mom was too intrusive into her relationships and it caused a break up. Next thing you know your mom is being arrested for kidnapping and you find out she tried to strangle one of your peers to death but made it home in time so dinner would be ready. It’s a new world of information into the person that parented you. Like, mom, what tf are you doing? Where did this come from? Why?! You’re making it harder to be normal. You quite literally are ruining my life. Oh you were trying to help? How are you gonna help me if you need help too?

Just as Texas takes “Friday Night Lights” H.S. football seriously, they ALSO take drill team, cheerleader, and majorette seriously. A high school classmate who didn’t make majorette due to “band parent politics” (quid pro quo crap) transferred to another high school with her parents’ blessing, and breezed through the audition, no problem. She even ended up becoming head majorette at the new school. It’s true, parents vicariously living through their kids to an unhealthy degree make things worse for everyone!

Idk if the daughter was even privy to her mom's actions before she did them. Both parents showing up must have been so confusing & upsetting so dad didn't see it either!!??? I live in Houston (Harris County, 3rd biggest county in the nation I believe) and have for over 20 years. Unfortunately, I’ve had firsthand experience with this; in lieu of “attempted murder,” prosecutors will charge the defendants w agg assault w a deadly weapon (second degree felony). In 2019, I was one of two victims in a case like this…we were stunned when he was not charged w attempted murder but it just doesn’t happen here in Texas. Prosecutors won’t do it.

One of the key elements in life is the doing of justice and concern for those who suffer injustice. In this case, there was more emphasis on justice to the salmon dinner than to justice for the ones that Nancy said she really cared about. In this case, the optical lens was turned inward rather than outward, and the perverted sense of justice remained the key observation. The justice observed in this case, and the justice deserved, were on two different levels. May the Salmon Dinner forever Rest In Peace. R.I.P. !@!@!@ Your sense of *justice* in this case was profound. Too much people pleasing (trying to please their daughter). Thanks Dr. Grande 👍

Dr. Grande I agree that Nancy Motes deserved longer in jail. In addition she should have been required to pay far more than $500,000.00 in civil court since Alexia may have permanent injuries now in her lungs, structures in her brainstem, etc. which will make it harder for her to succeed in both dance and/or in university -- All which may shorten her life span. Those kind of injuries cannot be proven through any medical tests right away in an emergency room on the same day in which they happen.

I just read about this case in Texas Monthly. One of the educators involved referred to parents like Nancy Motes as lawnmower parents, a step or two beyond helicopter parents. If you get in the way of what these parents want, they will mow you down. I was also shocked that Nancy's sentence was so light, given that she used a gun and kneeled on the girl's chest to stop her breathing. The reason that the young lady was able to get out of the storage area was because of her conditioning and training as a Kilgore Rangerette. She had to scale several tall fences to escape the space. Nancy was probably also outraged that this girl was a Rangerette, and that Kylie most likely would never be. What a strange and scary woman.

Thanks for following up on the salmon dinner! My goodness gracious me and gee golly whillikers, bless my crinoline dandies and Melinda Gates' mittens, I fairly squooshed my pantaloons laughing. 🙀 Also, I think we all appreciated the details on a proper stalking kit - wig, duct tape, and firearm, plus the all-important Oversized Holiday Card (Hallmark or Shoebox Greetings "disguise" line, available in "snowman," "Easter Greetings from Timberline Lodge," and "Santa Claus With AK-47"). What was that movie with a young Jake Gyllenhaal and the song "Mad World"? Hey, didn't his movie little sister belong to an eyebrow-raising dance team? And Jake's character took a lot of psych meds and kept waking up in sodden golf courses, while receiving instructions from an imaginary, grotesque rabbit who informed him about neighborhood predators, causing him at one point to flood his movie high school? The "wet high school" bit showed up again in the TV series "Glee." Remember when the kids did "Singin' in the Rain"? That school auditorium stage was drenched with water. Okay, that was NOT believable (stage rot - sagging boards come up, holes develop in the wood, dancers fall through & suffer terminal injuries to their torsos, later excavation finds gruesome charred skeletons and tragic propmaster suicide) - but - ho-hum, it was TV, and great rendition of the song and dance. Speaking of precision dance teams... HAHA! Anyway, great vid, Dr. Grande! 😀

I honestly can’t get enough of these videos because I love true crime, and hearing the facts in a short timeframe rather than having to watch an hour long special, or series, is much more convenient. You get right down to the facts and sum up the stories so they’re short enough to be listenable. That’s why I subscribed, and obviously also why a MILLION other people subscribed. You get millions of views per month. Go figure. 👍

@@bthomson I know a lot of parents who are way too involved with their kid's sports. Complaining they don't get enough play time, the coach is biased, screaming horrible things at the opposing team members, who are just kids, themselves. I've never heard of anything like this level of 'involvement.' I'd like to think it's just this woman, and nothing to do with Texas. They DO seem to be obsessed with their kid's achievements, though. This behavior only hurts the child, in the end, though.

I think this case exemplifies the destructive outcome of boundary violation. Sometimes in close relationships such as romantic and parent/child relationships the boundary lines tend to get a little blurry. Appropriate barriers in close relationships are just as important as the ones we keep with a distant acquaintance or a boss for example, it allows independence and space for growth and learning. I am all for parental involvement, support and supervision, however involvement in anyone’s romantic relationship, even one’s own child, is off limits to me. Setting limits may not be easy when you are very close to someone but I think that’s one of the ways to keep a relationship healthy and strong. That was a thought- provoking analysis, thank you Dr. Grande.❤️

Always gonna show up in the comments to support a sick Wilson from Home Improvement reference, and to tell my pointless story about how I saw his face once. It's an episode where Tim is fixing up a real nice sports car, I think it was blue, and they were both in Tim's garage. Wilson was doing that thing where he walked in front of random objects to hide his face, but there were a few frames where you could see it in the rear-view mirror. I saw that growing up and it BLEW MY FLIPPIN TINY CHILD MIND and I still bring it up whenever I see Wilson. Never could track down that scene again, but I do plan on rewatching all of Home Improvement one day just to find it.
